We've finished Loeb and Wells' runs, now we move onto Duggan's for the rest of this volume. Time to strap in for the continuing adventures of the human rocket, Nova!

I kind of like Sam's attitude, he's note a jerk but he's not a pushover. His comebacks are subdued but amusingly snide.
>Aren't you a little short to be a Nova?
>Aren't you a little stranded to be a jerk?
It's simple but good material.

I wonder how much permanent brain damage he's suffered. I thought there would be some for sure after his Axis tie -ins.

Doesn't he get money for being an Avenger? And if not why the hell not?
>>83935749
Didn't the helmet completely recover him from an injury that had him in the hospital for three days?
>>83935793
His mother had him turn down the Avengers membership offer during Wells' run. By the time he joins the Avengers in ANAD Avengers, all that's left is a "relatively" poor Tony and he isn't paying anyone as a result.
Which we'll be getting to towards the end of this series of storytimes.
>>83935793
Didnt hi mom refuse to allow him to be an avenger, as he is a minor he needs her permission?
But yeah p sure the avengers have like a stark managed discretionary fund or something. Most of the rich heroes would probably fix his problems in an instant if he asked.
But, being Nova *is* suffering.

He mentions "stuff the TV feeds us." Remember that they're in bumfuck nowhere Arizona, whereas the vast majority of alien contact is relegated mostly to stuff that happens in NYC, and all within the span of a little over a decade.
Presumably there'd still be holdouts in places like that who think all that superhero shit on the TV is all bullshit.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Sam OBLITERATED an alien with such firepower that Bill himself was afraid? That's why he suffers like a shit. He's top tier, so he needs to suffer emotionally in order to have ballance. Only the saddest of lifes can counter his awesomeness.

Storytimer here. Going to be doing the next arc in a new thread. I like to avoid breaking up arcs when possible and this next one is a douse.

>And Jinin was never heard from again
So, /co/, question here. I suppose I'm a casual. I started reading comics about three years ago, from very different heroes, both DC and Marvel. Two weeks ago I read Sam's solo and I love this character. He's not my favorite, but he's easily in my top 5. But most people hate him and says his books are shit. He sales very bad, also.
So, is it that I have a shitty taste or people just take it too hard with Sam?
>>83938870
People are too hard on Sam. Most of the people that hate him are either hardcore fans of the late Nova and blame Sam for him dieing like he was killed off to make way for him, when that wasn't the case. Another group only know Sam from the fact that Loeb made him and named him after his own sonSam Alexander Loeb was Loeb's son, he died of cancer as a teenager, and instantly associate Sam with Loeb even though Loeb only wrote the first arc, and most of them hate Loeb for some of the really bad comics he wrote shortly after Sam Loeb's death. Mainly Ultimatum.
So you have these two fanbases, those that love Rich and those that hate Loeb, putting all their frustrations with them on the character rather than even giving him a chance. The comics themselves are good.
As for the sales, Nova has never been a high seller.
