A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home were good movies, but after that, the peanuts movies became too dumbed down for children and some of them were downright bad

anyone else agree?
>>
Snoopy come home was already too dumbed down and slow. The song with the abusive girl was catchy and I liked the monopoly game, but that's it.

i wouldn't say that
a boy named charlie brown and snoopy come home both had depressing, but good music. and in general they were pretty depressing but charming at the same time

almost none of the peanuts specials that came after these two come close to being as depressing as they were

race for your life charlie brown was too dumbed down for children
he's a bully charlie brown was cringy
it's your first kiss charlie brown was also cringy
it's magic charlie brown was boring and out-of-genre
it's the girl in the red truck charlie brown is... why the fuck does this even exist
snoopy's getting married charlie brown is stupid
and the list goes on

"Dumbed down for children" doesn't really apply to Bon Voyage Charlie Brown.

Everything about Snoopy come home is lower quality than a boy named though, from music to direction to voice acting to the credits even the title is pandery. Rod McKuen is forever Snoopy's soundtrack is dated. I can barely even remember any of the Snoopy come home segments/songs.

In all fairness to red truck, it was concieved and supposed to come out before Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Oh yes, I loved the Calvin and Hobbes movies.

Yes Watterson, we get it. Calvin has a vivid imagination.

You say that jokingly, but no Calvin and Hobbes media means no criticism of shitty Calvin and Hobbes media. It's wholly untainted

Snoopy Come Home had no tension to it because you knew Snoopy wasn't really going to leave forever. I know that's not the point but the more emotional sequences towards the end had no impact because of it. The songs in that movie were written by the Sherman Brothers so of course those were great and the movie as a whole is still worth watching. It's just that they were going for something more emotional with that movie and it didn't work. (If they really wanted to make it sad, they should've had Snoopy's original owner die at the end from her sickness but that would've been way too dark for a Peanuts movie.)

A Boy Named Charlie Brown worked better in that regard because Charlie Brown losing at the end is status quo but there was still the sense of "maybe he can win just this one time." And making it to the national finals on television wouldn't be anything to sneeze at if he didn't fuck up in the most colossal way possible at the very end. And the movie just handles that in a very nice way too. When Charlie Brown returns home the next day, everyone had forgotten about the whole thing and went back to their daily lives. The message is that everyone makes retarded mistakes from time to time and it's better to just move on from them rather than dwell on it like Charlie Brown did at first.

Eh. I don't think everything about Peanuts needs to be dark and gloomy. To me, it's more about the whole innocence of childhood. I think this sequence sums up everything that makes Peanuts what it is for me.

Last year, there was a tv special celebrating the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas that had celebrity appearances in it. One of them sang this song and it actually got me to cry a bit.

>dumbed down
Maybe some but stuff like the Christmas special and the infamous cancer awareness special weren't afraid to tell it how it is.

What makes you assume it would be shitty?

dissapointing special overall

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown might not be faithful to the tone of the comics but it's extremely comfy desu
>>
>>83927038
Pumpkin was before a boy named Charlie Brown. I don't think OP was referring to it.
>>
>>83924587
They're all quality. The classic ones I mean.

>(If they really wanted to make it sad, they should've had Snoopy's original owner die at the end from her sickness but that would've been way too dark for a Peanuts movie.)

I think in one special they had someone die or something? I'm not sure, but I do remember watching something like that when I was little, sometime around 1991

Either that or I'm completely misremembering the episode where Janice gets cancer

>it's the girl in the red truck charlie brown is... why the fuck does this even exist
I thought this was the title of a low-budget porno parody of the peanuts and that you mentioned it for the lulz
kek

>>83926372
>and the infamous cancer awareness special weren't afraid to tell it how it is.
they didn't tell kids that if they get cancer there's a like 95% chance they'll die
but to be fair that would've scarred them
