Korra got partly screwed over by the team not knowing if they would ever get a continuation each season. At the times the conclusions of Books 1 and 2 aired they thought that was going to be the end of the show as it was. Books 3 and 4 were bought together so they were able to pace out 3 better, but even though they already knew Book 4 was going to be the last season Nick kept doing last minute screwups with their budget leading to the clipshow episode among other stuff.
With Voltron I assume they already have an idea of how long their story is going to last and whether they'll be able to get those episodes far enough in time they can pace the story and character development accordingly. Apparently the episode order for this show is 78 episodes, and after what I have seen so far it does not seem worthy of that commitment.
