Classpectanon style analysis of Karkat's land because I'm bored and autistic.
Land of Pulse and Haze.
A planet made of black rocks and sand and a vast body of water, making formations of beachs, rivers, and lakes. The landscape is scattered with stone fortresses and bridges both above water and underwater. The consorts, the crabs, used to live a carefree life, until Mars, the denizen, turned the water bright red. The water is still perfectly fine, but the crabs have an irrational fear and hatred of it, and refuse to go inside, thus slowly dehydrating to death. Worse, some noticed that the water changed when the Knight of Blood entered their land, so they refuse to co-operate with him. To reach your denizen, you must solve a series of bullshit puzzles and riddles, but they are all in the underwater castles, which you could only navigate through with the help of the crabs, because only they can see through the opaque red water. No matter how you stop Mars, the water will remain red, so you must convince the crabs to accept it before they all die.
Karkat of course thought this was all the part of the game mocking him, and cheated with the help of Terezi's Seer powers, Vriska's vision omni-fold, and Tavros' commune ability.

Homestuck should have been 4-5 separate MSPA stories that together made up one entire anthology. If Hussie had just cooled his tits and decided to dilineate the story in this manner we would have gotten several fantastic adventures instead of one big mediocre one that drags on forever.

I think Calliope represents Act 6, and Caliborn represents the first half of the story. That's why he and characters related to him (all the Jacks) have way more classic MSPA references (Jailbreak, Intermission, Caliborn's Intermission) to them.
Meanwhile, Calliope is a self-insert character into Act 6, her favorite story, where all the characters (including her fave, Roxy) adore her and would do anything to keep her safe from her terrible brother, ending with John deciding that it was a better idea to try and revive Calliope rather than THEIR FUCKING HEALER.

Yeah that makes sense, but I think you have to show how it differs from just Time powers in that he can go to multiple points in the story leading up the Game Over, making meaningful changes along the way. Perhaps you could even have him overwrite some of his own changes, given he's not fully experienced with the powers and shit could go wrong easily. This was always a problem though. Characters acting oddly for the sake of the plot. The kids just straight up don't give a shit everyone they knew (and everyone they didn't) except them and a couple of aliens died, probably horribly. It's much more obvious towards the end though.

Yea I suppose that's a good point about their reactions to the end of the world. It made sense then in that the story wasn't supposed to be focused on that rather apocalyptic element and more the kid's adventures. But when the things they brush off are a part of that adventure they're supposed to be having, then it's not really feasible for them to just brush it off like that. Jade's solitary journey being one of the biggest offenders along side the John and Roxy replacements and Vriska's revered return
I think the biggest problem in all this is that the issues presented like that are just flat out ignored, as opposed to just having some relevance or discussion however minor. For example, Dave and Dirk talking through their issues to reach a point where they can work on together, even if the Bro abuse part was rather shamefully tacked on like that to act as a drama point.

They said some really interesting things on the Volume 10 stream about how Hussie interacts with people involved in Homestuck related projects. Primarily that he'll sporadically just give instructions with no real explanation or discussion. Imagine what it must have been like in the wake of things going downhill, especially after all the issues with Hiveswap.

Well, Hussie is known for trolling. And with everything going on, Hiveswap's controversy, Hollywood's attention, the expectations of fans, etc. I don't think he would end things like that.
He was, however, cornered with a big schedule and only growing backlog. End Homestuck like that makes more sense when I look at it for this angle. He gets time to work on it later, focusing on mroe important stuff for now.
Who knows? Maybe we will get the ''True Ending'' like in games with 100% completion? Maybe the epilogue will clear everything? Maybe Act 8?

I feel retcon's problem was actually how far he went back and changed. Like, if he only changed the story as little before game over, I'm certain it wouldn't get the hate it got.
Like, just taking the ring would have meant no Aranea, but Jake and Roxy would still get jailed and we could have went from there.
Maybe, I dunno, Vriska's mind control was really important, but we know it works through time and space, with dead and living, so he could have gotten the help of ghosts to solve that mess? Things like that?
Everyone saved, no game over and story changed at the minimum and necessary with stuff you have.
