Dory did it.

"Warcraft", TMNT:OotS, and X-Men;A continue to sink, being duds at the domestic boxoffice. But they're making up for it with strong international boxoffice. Especially "Warcraft" which made $200 M in the Chinese Boxoffice. I have no idea why.
>>
>>83914725
Warcraft is really popular in China, but the movie was hot garbage
>>
>>83914725
Warcraft can't make it's budget back in China. 200 million isn't even enough.
>>
I'm more surprised by how much Zootopia is still making 16 weeks in
>>
>>83914800
>>83914856
How long did that take to make? 6 or 7 years?
>>
>>83914889
Yeah.
and they fucked it up royally.

It's the equivalent of a sci-fi original movie, it's that fucking bad.
>>
>>83914725

>Apocalypse still that low

LaughingEvans826.jpg
>>
>>83914725
I forgot to list "Through the Looking Glass" among the duds.

Yay, now Apocalypse is only the #8 performing X-Men movie of all time, instead of being bottom at the 9th position.
Bravo Singer!

Yet the Chinese love the movie apparently.
>>
>>83914856
Didn't it already hit its budget?
>>
>>83915036
Nope.
It's at 37 mil domestically. It has a budget of 165 million.

If the chinese box office is 200 million, the US market will only see 15-35% of that.
>>
>>83915036
"Hitting it's budget" is meaningless, studios hardly get 100% of the box office. Particularly in overseas markets.
>>
>>83914904
How could they have made that, watched it, then said "No, yeah, that's great. Let's release that."?! It was so bad. Pretty, but everything else was pure shit.
>>
>>83915036
You don't get all of the box office overseas
>>
Apocalypse is a fucking dud.
Fox needs to start seriously considering how many stupid fucking X-Men movies they are going to keep pumping out every year when people clearly don't want to see them as much as they did in the past.

The Cinematic Universe took over entirely. Fox should probably realize this and give the rights back. Their brand is dying.

If they keep trying to push out bad X-Men movies and seriously try to revitalize Fantastic Four... Again... They're going to go down faster than spider-man
>>
>>83915054
>If the chinese box office is 200 million, the US market will only see 15-35% of that

I was wondering how that worked.
>>
>>83915080
I have no idea.
Everything about the movie was wrong.
The physics in the CGI scenes were so fucked up. No one had any weight or any bulk to them. A tiny ass human could barely swing a sword and it would knock a huge ass, heavy orc over instantly.
>>
>>83915087
Or just make the TV series already
>have hundreds of unique X-Men characters and story lines at your disposal
>Lets make another Wolverine, Magneto, Mystique, Xavier, Scott and Jean movie
>>
>>83915036
"You can actually look at the securities filings for the big theater chains, to look at how much of their ticket revenues go back to the studios, points out Stone. So for example, the latest quarterly filing by Cinemark Holdings, shows that 54.5 percent of its ticket revenues went to the distributors. So as a ballpark figure, studios generally take in around 50-55 percent of U.S. box office money."

>>
>>83915087
No. Keep the X-Men out of the MCU.
>>
>>83915080
For the same reason Food fight was released and not put down like the cancerous, flea ridden mongrel of a movie that it was. They had sunk too much time and money into it, they needed something back

>>83915125
Yeah, Studios used to get all the opening weekend and less of a cut with each following week; but it was causing bankruptcy for theater chains. So now the rule is 50-55 of the total domestic take, and a variable lower percentage in foreign box office, negotiated individually, but universally lower than the US percentage.

As a MCU fan, I would rather not have that turd in the movie universe, maybe wolverine but nothing else. We already have the inhumans, they serve practically the same purpose. Nah let Fox keep their aids ridden franchises.

You're a Fox executive

Deadpool broke records
Apocalypse is a disappointment

What do?
>>
Why is it the Chinese love tacky, content-less, meaningless, spectacle in their films? It's like they have a completely opposite conception of what "good and bad" are
>>
>>83915577
Meddle with Deadpool 2 - Electric Boogaloo and wonder why it didn't make as much money as the first one when the box office results come in. Also, strategically shitpost online to make people believe that there's a huge conspiracy where Disney are buying people out and our movies don't actually suck dick
>>
>>83915169
Man.
Fuck the distrubutors.
The studio makes the movie, they should get 90% of the profit. Give 5% to the distributor and 5% to the theater chain itself.

except that finding dory is actually /co/ unlike your precious live action adaptations.
Those should be permabanned from here

OP specifically focused on only the /co/ related flicks.

I agree. What we really need is a superheroes board. Interest in superheroes is clearly overflowing the bounds of comics and cartoons discussion.

I'm kind of sad Warcraft tank. The film wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. It had a lot of potential though.

I just want another fantasy setting that's not real world based.
>>
So, what is wrong with Warcraft? I only have a passing knowledge of the lore, but I enjoyed it a great deal.

It wasn't amazing, but it was a good opener for a trilogy imo.
>>
>>83915785
The Counjuring and Warcraft movies are not /co/ related.

>So, what is wrong with Warcraft?
Only the biggest neck beards would go and see it in the U.S. and Europe. High fantasy films like Lotr and the Hobbit attract a lot of general audiences because they're nice to look at with an especially attractive cast

Warcraft's Orcs were gorgeous but the scenes with humans looked like a free to play phone video game app commercial
>>
>>83915848
>>83917611
It really stunned me that Warcraft got as bad reviews as it did, because I didn't see anything outright offensive in the film. Some of the human actors were hammy, yes, but I don't see why you get a Moviebob level "IT'S A DISASTER" shit. Maybe the film is a decade too late.

It was alright. The first was still better/scarier.
>>
>>83918098
I love it, not sure it was better than the first one or not but it was a really well done horror movie.
>>
>>83915722
A lot of the time, distributors are partially financing the film too, so they expect their pound of flesh.

I blame the flop of Apoc on bad reviews. Everywhere except USA the movie was #1. Really suspicious

also X-Men Apocalypse felt like a MCU movie.
In other words, if you hated the movie, you would hate the X-Men in MCU

They have monopoly on blockbusters basically.

>All these faggots in this thread that didn't like Warcraft.
In all honesty, I've wondered if knowing the lore makes a difference. I knew enough about it to know what the hell was going on and I've wondered if maybe people who hate it have no prior experience with the property.

I loved the hell out of it. I'll admit the greenscreen effects looked like goatse, but I'm pretty sure it's cause they blew their FX budget on the Orcs.

Still miffed the Universal Logo wasn't Azeroth.
>>
>>83921692
make your movie relatable for general audiences, not just for the sake of fan services or confusing imagery.
>>
>>83921851
You got the right premise but a wrong conclusion.
So now if you go to see a movie, you have to know the material beforehand to enjoy it?
Do I have to play all 5 or 6 or whatever Assassin's Creed games to enjoy the movie?
Do I have to read decades of Dr. Strange comics to enjoy the movie?
A movie HAS to make the the audience care about the characters and the story without any prior knowledge.
Otherwise, yes, it's just fanwank. Nobody else cares about the implied Burning Legion. Why should they?
And when that happens, don't whine that it failed to make money.
