If this were the case i'm quitting DC movies. I don't want more casual shit.
>>
Since it seems to be JL related, I think we can hold off on Suicide Squad stuff. Plus, all of the advance reviews of SS made it seem like it had lukewarm-to-warm reception, which is nothing to be excited about (because let's be honest: almost any movie told straightforward would be more pleasing than Snyder's stuff).

Snyder getting dropped would be the only truly happy news. But I doubt that.

Still, I'll keep my eyes open to whatever disappointments come from this...

Aren't they almost like halfway through filming at this point?

>>

>Zack Snyder is no longer the director

We have known this for a while now and even if we didn't, it was the most obvious inevitable move.

Is just that some seem to think that he will be removed from the Justice League that is currently filming, which it isn't the case.
He still gets to finish that one, but after that it's over for him.

>>83910355
>after that it's over for him.

No, after that he's still got a contract. BvS, as its defenders were so keen to point out, made a lot of money. It did cost a lot of money - but that's WB's fault, not Snyder's. He works as all directors do to the budget he's given by the studio.

As long as his movies make big money, even if they're unprofitable theatrically there's no reason to get someone else in. Those movies will make a lot of money for the studio over the years to come.

Sometimes turnover is more important than profit.

I legitimately loved BvS on every level and thought Civil War was yet another dredge through the mediocrity that is 90% of the Marvel movies.

It isn't company wars if someone has an opinion different from you. My comment above could probably be considered company wars but until Marvel starts pumping out movies that are actually good or until DC starts making movies that are bad it isn't wrong.

His hairline looks better these days, I think he did something to fix it

>>83911738

I don't understand why heroes not fighting to kill each other is a good thing. We're supposed to be extremely emotionally invested in the fight in a way that keeps us on the edge of our seats and our hearts pounding until the very end. You know, like a crazed Batman fighting a reluctant Superman to the death.

Instead we got a bunch of hypocrite assholes jumping around in a sequence that looks like and is about as exciting as action figures being thrown at each other. Then they stop when Rhodey falls down in the same way a baseball game would stop when we were little if a kid got beaned in the face with the ball.

Also, Spidey had not exhibited super strength in front of Cap before he dropped a loading platform on him.

It was fun to watch for Spidey antics and Giant Man but it was pretty shitty. The airport fight did suck.

Thing with CW was that they had a screeening with executives first and they loved it, then they had a screening with critics before fans or normal moviegoers and most of them love it but also pointed out some faults. If ss is showing to critics and get positive reviews then I'm hyped until then op claims are just wild speculation. Back to my cave.
>>
What is the Suicide Squad embargo?
>>
>>83912702
Why would they kill each other? The only one who had anything resembling a reason to kill was Black Panther, also you're supposed to care because after the fight they got sent to underwater superhero jail.

Also the airport fight had more consequences than the BvS fight even though that one was supposed to be to the death, also the action in those fights were about the same.

Spider-Man was able to yank Cap to the ground then kick him into the air.

The airport fight was not bad.
>>
>>83912745

Why do you need critics to decide what is good for you?
>>
>>83912868
Embargo in this context is just the period of time before a studio permits the publication of reviews. An outlet can technically publish a review whenever they like, but not complying to embargoes might mean not getting invited to press junkets and screenings, so embargoes are usually followed.
>>
>>83912993
I can enjoy shit like Godzilla 98 and Dracula untold, but if a movie manages to have a solid script or interesting character development besides being entertaining the better imo. I think critics, as assholes as they can be sometimes, are a better reference for those points than ravish fans and "normies". The next dark night claims for BvS, or you'll be surprise guys! claims for F4ntastics weren't falseflagging here. Those twits were insane.
>>

Ultimately you don't, but someone capable of thinking critically and understanding how to effectively use a given medium probably has an opinion worth considering. The trick is differentiating that from all the self-aggrandizing media junkies and fawning fanboys out there.

They're not infallible of course; Roger Ebert took a long time to come around to appreciating Mask of the Phantasm as more than just a kids' cartoon, for example, and some critics do play favorites. I tune out the RLM guys when there's a Tarantino or Max Landis film being reviewed because they'll gush shamelessly, but otherwise I think they're pretty solid.
>>
>>83913394
It's not really either of those things.

Embargoes are a necessity in the internet age. Studios rarely, if ever, had to deal with early reviews because who would care about a random print article released 30+ days before a movie is released? From a journalistic standpoint, it'd be releasing the great story when you know no one is going to read it or care.

Now, early reviews are done ENTIRELY for attention. An early negative or highly positive review for a tentpole movie == easy clicks, easy money. It'll be the first thing that populates RT/Metacritic, and everyone will read it and potentially spoil themselves.

And it should be noted (and emphasized!) that embargoes aren't just for negative reviews. They're for *all* reviews.

WB is early "bribing" them with exclusives to fool you all. They would never invite journalists to write in-depth stories about the production so early if it wasn't for the BvS fiasco. That kind of stuff always happens when they are in post-production.

These days, I just use embargoes to judge how confident a studio is in it's movie.

Honestly, that was the first warning sign for me that BvS wasn't going to be very good, when the review embargo wouldn't be lifted until the day off release. That combined with releasing everywhere just made it seem like they had no confidence in the movie outside of having the Superman and Batman name brand and just wanted to get as much cash ASAP before word of mouth got out that it sucked.

Meanwhile, Marvel dropped the embargo on Civil War weeks before release, and still kept the staggered release. Good or bad, it demonstrates they were extremely confident about people talking about their movie.

I hope Snyder stays edgy and pisses everyone off. That stuff was the most interesting stuff in BvS. Batman killing cunts, Superman a reluctant demigod, Lex a millenial douche. More of that please. Can't wait for the ultimate cut.

Marvel movies do seem a bit too simple compared to DC. Even Nolan's movies, which I didn't like very much, had some depth to them. The Marvel movies don't really seem to have any underlying themes or messages.

In fairness Donner took about 45 just to get to the first appearance of adult Clark Kent, and Snyder was basically shooting a remake of the original Donner script - which was for two movies shot back to back.

He still made a horrible movie, but the long, drawn out Krypton scenes are a big part of establishing how alien Superman is and how stupid Kryptonians in general are, and they were only in the first movie because Donner was a huge Superfag and didn't want to make a more generic movie.
>>

Awful, unless it meant that he was free to direct an actual sequel to MoS.

Finding Dory did horrible in test screenings with critics
Guess what?
It took in $136.2 million in North American theaters this weekend, making it the highest-grossing animated debut of all time it beat out the new Dwayne Johnson film that came out the same weekend.
They are now adjusting this to believe it could break 9 hundred million which could lead to the top 4 highest viewed/sold films of 2016 being Disney and another black eye to the test screening praised BvS knocking it down to 5th place and losing out to a Finding Nemo cash in.

I also think the all-knowing hologram versions of Jor-El are blasphemous toward God. He wasn't like that in the comics, he didn't care about Earth.

The Kents should be enough to give Superman his moral standing. Downplay them too much and you go beyond zero impact to negative.

>Call it the Comic-Con International version of sky-writing.

>During a DC Comics panel on Friday covering their superhero comics, Johns – the writer of "Flash" and co-writer of "JSA" – got a question from a member of the audience that he's unlikely to get asked again:

>"I am Geoff Johns' girlfriend, and I want to know if you'll marry me."

>She then nervously deposited an opened ring box on the table in front of a visibly stunned Johns. After a passionate kiss, the couple was excused by the panel members.

>for the fans
That is a terrible strategy.
>>
>>83927305
Tarzan for 4th of July looks to be, at best, mediocre. Suicide Squad could make money. They're banking on Fantastic Beasts to capture Harry Potter magic again, but they forgot to add that name for marketing. They have an animated movie about Storks for September. And Ben Affleck's Accountant movie about an autistic accountant who is actually a hitman. So really only 2 movies that can be said to be blockbusters.

By the end of the movie they all moved past that. Superman inspires Batman to be better and even the world, Batman follows Clark's example and doesn't even brand Lex, Wonder Woman doesn't ignore trouble and helps Superman defeat Doomsday, Luthor ends up in prison where he can possibly come out more comic-accurate.

If you don't think it was in character for Batman, then you're less than a casual.

>Superman who inspires people so much they adore him as a god
>Batman who doesn't even care about the collateral damage killing of criminals because of how bad his life has been
>Modern Luthor who still has his hair as a result of no Superboy shenanigans
>Wonder Woman who decided not to deal with humans because she sees how bad they are and has no one to disprove her
>Non-full grown Doomsday who was still incredibly difficult to kill
You do realize that Doomsday wasn't always a ridiculously strong powerhouse with spikes everywhere right? That he had to evolve that way after countless battles and deaths?
Yes, for the fans. The REAL fans who actually read comics maybe?
Have you ever read an Elseworlds? Do you even know what an Elseworlds is? This is basically an Elseworlds where the premise is "what if Superman came later?" But you probably don't know what that means.

This. I don't really get why the hell you'd go with an original Elseworlds idea for your big cinematic universe. Why not go with something that were more representative of the actual DCU?

BvS shares a lot of concepts and story beats with JLA: The Nail. Which is literally an elseworlds.
