I used to love this shit as a kid. Apparently most chuck e cheese locations have been phasing out most characters other than chuck e though. Dissapointing.

Maybe five nights at freddys will show the ceos that there is still an interest in this kind of stuff

People used to talk about this kinda stuff pretty frequently on /vg/'s /5N@F/ thread.
Apparently they don't even do animatronics anymore. Now it's just big screens on the walls that play animated videos of the characters every few minutes.
There used to be a guy that worked at one of these places that would tell stories from is time servicing various performers.
Pic related was based on one of them.

Literally impossible. Slasher films without 70s/80s nostalgia are box office poison, these days.

The entire Horror genre is a wasteland of hacks and corporate buffoons who wouldn't know scary if it jumped up through the shower drain and laid its eggs in their stomachs.
>>
>>83910583
I couldn't care less about the slasher genre, and gore porn always seemed so low brow and needlessly cruel.
Much as people hate on the franchise, and the fandom that sprung up around it, FNAF got right what few other horror games or movies do: atmosphere. It mixed peoples natural fear of the uncanny valley with superb art direction and sound design, making something genuinely unnerving to play. Say what you will about the game mechanics or the sequels or all the autism surrounding it, but there was a genuine reason the first game became as popular as it did.
Shit was spooky, and it did a good job of hinting at an explanation for the events of the game while leaving lots of room for the imagination.

The fanbase is absolute dogshit but I think FNAF is great in a lot of ways. Animatronics have always had so much untapped potential in the horror genre and FNAF is what really showed there potential.

Animatronics are now being seen as a legit form of monster and a genre of horror because of FNAF which I think is fantastic. I hope to see more scary animatronic related things specially non-FNAF stuff.

Exoskeleton would be the outside of it, right?

Yeah. So if its a framework that goes underneath a skin or chassis or something, it'd probably be called an endoskeleton, or something else.

If the kid was calling it an endoskeleton though, I don't see why that would be particularly distressing outside of the association with the franchise. It seems like a valid word for the thing. Unless it has a better real name for it he was trying to teach the kid and the kid was just ignoring him.

The Pizza Time Theatre did lot of raunchy and risque shit in the early years. The crowning example is probably Dolli Dimples, the animatronic hippo with jiggle physics, who played the piano at a lounge area intended for adults. There was a whole bunch of shit like this.

The original segments with the "demo voices" that took up about half of the first showtape (I'm not actually sure if the demo voices were even played in the restaurant or not.) included a joke told by Crusty in which he gets dumped by his girlfriend on a date, and when "The Big C", as they called him, asks him what he had for dinner, he replies with, "a slice of pizza and a six-pack". Also in one of the "demo voices" acts, the Warblettes sing a song about someone trying to fug one of them in the back seat of a car while at the drive-in.

On a related note, I love how the characters would casually mention the fact that they were animatronics.

Faggot. Three-stage reporting in, but at least we're both superior to that shit two-stage. I don't care if it has all the animatronics, it's still ugly as ass. And don't even get me started on the Road Stage.
>>
>>83955174
The animatronics are great, especially the skating Olaf, but the ride itself is super shallow. Like you just go up to Elsa's castle to hear her sing Let it Go again for no real reason beyond it being her Number 1 Hit Single and then you drop down and it just kinda ends and you have Anna, Elsa and Olaf awkwardly singing In Summer.
>>
>>83955624
Also, the trolls are wholly unnecessary, especially with their bit just them being watching the movie on a rock TV and talking about DA STORY OF HOW ARIEL FELL IN LOVE

I was just thinking of this the other day and concluded it would have to be Universal to do it and it'd have to be an attraction similar to ExtraTERRORestrial at Dinsney.

3 stage is in my opinion the most visually appealing. I have no issue with 2 stage though even though it kinda bothers me how far Chuck e is from everyone else. Which stage design featured the house? Are there still locations that use that set?

Either way, the only setup that I really just actively hate is the new Circle of Lights. It looks so terribly barren and boring. If they gave chuck e a companion or something like Munch, they could make it work. But the way it is now is just so visually boring
>>

Holy shit those animatronics are amazing. The facial animation on them is top notch too. I want to be mad that they got rid of the god-tier Norway ride, but dang this is impressive.

No matter what Velma Dinkley tells you, they're not particularly effective as three dimensional images that obscure backdrops. Disney uses Pepper's Ghosts just like the Hatsune Miku concert did, and the fact the ride goes all around the figures proves they're physical props.

Honestly?

Has the same problem as a lot of Disney shit these days:
>sterile as fuck
>screens everywhere
>replaced a much better attraction
>recycled just enough from the old attraction to piss fans of the old attraction off
>ride itself is a boring, slow romp through Imagineer wank and not actually a ride
>half the fucking ride isn't even visually impressive, just a bunch of blue light shining on hologram screens
The animatronics are impressive, but nearly enough to carry it all. Disney seems to have completely forgotten how to make actual rides, which is a real travesty since they made some really cool shit in the past.

Granted, a lot of the classic Disney rides are the same slow gentle ride through scenes shtick, like Pirates and Haunted Mansion, but those are actually visually interesting to look at. This ride seems to have like three parts of note to it and I'd put virtually any scene in the Haunted Mansion above everything in this ride.

Honestly? In terms of modern Disney rides, the Cars ride is probably the best balance of impressive effects and scenery with actual fun movement I've seen outside of the Indiana Jones ride.
>>
>>83957118
Remember when Disney World's MTWR was replaced with Winnie the fucking Pooh? A sad day, that was. I mean, they already ruined it in late '93 with those terrible slow, two-seat cars, but of course that just wasn't enough.
>>
>>83957118
Shanghai's Pirates raised the bar significantly. Best blend of physical sets and screens I've ever seen.

>>
>>83957281
That's pretty fucking great actually, yeah.

But over-seas Disneyland rides show us how, if it weren't for people so opposed to change, we'd have some amazing shit.

Walt fucking made Disneyland because he couldn't change his movies after he released them, he wanted to and regularly did update and change his rides with better shit. I don't know if I want them completely gutting everything to update Pirates to that, but just something would be nice.
>>
>>83957660
I'd be fine with it replacing Florida's Pirates while Disneyland keeps the original classic.
>>
>>83955731
>an attraction similar to ExtraTERRORestrial at Dinsney

That would be good.

I was thinking of a virtual reality experience, myself. To really put you all alone in the situation. But I guess if you go too literal then your just playing the game again, and it kind of defeats the purpose of attending an attraction.
>>
How do you folks feel about computer graphics replacing animatronics? I've heard that it had something to do with how much it cost, but I really don't buy that

I bet if CEC completely reverted to what it was circa-1981, it would get massive success. Like, I'm talking about reverting back to the characters' original personalities, voices, appearances, the style that the shows were presented in, bringing back the Dixieland motif, and having genuinely-funny and well-written shows that were targeted for families as opposed to just little kiddies.

That's just the way it was. The characters had a realistic way of speaking. Also, Dook Larue (the dog) is supposed to be stuttering the way he does in the video. It's part of his character.

>this thing bombed
No it didn't. Everyone loved the Rock-afire Explosion back in the day, and many people still love it today. The only reason Showbiz isn't around today is because it was bought out by Chuck E. Cheese's, who converted all the locations into their own.
>>
>>83989561
>The only reason Showbiz isn't around today is because it was bought out by Chuck E. Cheese's, who converted all the locations into their own.

Backwards, actually. Chuck. E. Cheese was bought out by Showbiz. Showbiz tried to get the exclusive rights to the Rockafire Explosion, but the guy who created the show was getting offers from other restaurants and turned them down.

So showbiz instead took the Chuck e. Cheese characters, who they owned outright, and retrofitted all the Rockafire Explosion shows into them.
