After a much too long hiatus, I've finally completed Wake book 18! Here it is, fresh off the presses (photoshop). If you're not familiar with Wake, here's a small summary:

Wake is an intergalactic convoy comprised of many different alien species who have banded together in search of new worlds and riches across the universe. All of these races have one thing in common: Their thoughts and feelings are emitted as measurable, readable "psionic waves". Some species, called active psionics, can sense and manipulate these waves, while others, called passive psionics, cannot. This story follows the adventures of the first human to join Wake, a shipwrecked girl named Navis, rescued from a distant planet. Humans are special, since they are entirely non-psionic: they can't be read or manipulated like other races.

There are 17 other books before this one, so if you aren't caught up you can get all of them here:

As usual, this is basically my first draft. If you notice any sorts of errors or odd wording, please point them out to me so I can fix them!

I'll upload the comic for download once the storytime is finished and I'm satisfied there are no remaining fixes that need to be made.

In case you forgot in the interrim, when last we left our heroes they had recovered one "Jules" from a snowy planet along with a dangerous artifact called an "ornosphere". Unfortunately, it seems Jules was not who "he" said he was, and the ornosphere they went to all that trouble to get was a fake!

Let's see what happens next...

Tough weekend and I'm spent as fuck, so I'll probably not get it done today.

I'll do the usual paste in the win-o if this thread isn't alive tomorrow.

Unrelated sidenote: Status on Les Inommables?

I didn't expect almost all of the past events in the series to come up in this issue.

You should take your time on these. There was a lot more typos in this than usual. Normally I only find a few and mainly in the last quater of the pages (probably because you rush those to finish, i assume).

Did you skip the last page (black recap blurb page) or was it not in the scan?

03
p2
last a lifetime -> last me a lifetime
nitpicky, i think it flows better with "me"

p5 b1
your being -> you being
not 100% sure

04
p4 b1
unless Morvan specifically had snivel mention misogyny i think it should be replaced/reworded with "male dominated" or something similar, because that sounds really jarring to me

08
p4 b2
despite the taking the -> despite taking the

15
p1
this parasites -> this parasite/these parasites

p3
immunized -> immune

p9 b1
been informed of -> received
on second thought, "informed" sounds more formal which suits the magister, but "received" has a better flow which suits the situation so YMMV.

21
p2 b1
good will -> goodwill

25
p5 b1
vcouncil -> council

26
p2 b2
food -> a carrot
did Morvan really use that analogy? pretty odd considering none of them should've even heard about knights or horses.

27
p1 b2
he said had -> he said he had

30
p8
you'd contaminated -> you'd be contaminated

31
p3
humans
i haven't read the previous tomes since release but i'm assuming that's a typo with humans being all but exttinct?

33
p4 b1
he'll -> we'll

35
p6
i wavs useful -> i was useful

40
p10 b1
pouram -> poukram

>>83928727
Ok, I'm back. Going to work on those corrections now. A few interesting notes:

>>83927341
>unless Morvan specifically had snivel mention misogyny
He literally used the word misogynistic, and it's not like it has any different connotation in French. So I thought it was a little jarring too, but hey, he's the writer...

>did Morvan really use that analogy?
Yeah, and it does work because, remember the history of civilization on Tri-jj 786 mirrors human civilization, so they would've had a medieval age. Komerin would know about it because they've been to "medieval" planets before, like in Mark of the Demon. However, you drew my attention to an important correction: I didn't use carrot because neither did Morvan (carrots don't exist on Wake), but I messed up by translating the knight's steed as a "horse" (the original French said "mount"), which is wrong for the same reason why mentioning carrots doesn't fit.

>>83931344
I actually looked up the definition because that confused me too, but it is exactly what Morvan wrote. I justify it in my head as meaning their ship will become subluminal, in that it is moving so fast it can no longer reflect light or some shit. But it's kind of dumb-sounding, yeah.
>>
>>83931542

That's really stupid, fucking step it up, Morvan-senpai. Maybe he meant it like going to subspace or something.

Yo Ouash, when will you redo the 16th album? I know I uploaded a better scan (bigger pages) for you back when you were storytiming the 15th I think.
The current one is something like 1250x1750.
>>
>>83934744
Let's pretend that never happened... I fixed it in Mediafire. The image file names themselves were fine, thankfully.

>>83934794
That one was bigger but it was, I think, artificially upscaled. If I recall correctly, it had the same scanning errors as my other, lower res scan. However I've since gottan ahold of what I think is a better scan. As for when I'll get that done... I don't have a specific action plan right now. I'll do it when I want to work on something and the mood for some mindless typesetting and editing strikes me.

What's interesting to me is the humans also made a very fast and efficient cure, meaning they probably have allies who have psychic wired brains like most of the other aliens in the setting.

That is interesting since we assumed until this tome that humanity never encountered any aliens besides the Puntas and those origami pandas due to humans not having any Psi abilities.

They wouldn't have made the p-bomb in the first place if they hadn't already made contact with a hostile psi race.

The author got show some human stuff in the upcoming tomes. I want to see how far Humanity have come technologically compared to Wake.

You're right, I got the numbers mixed up. They don't even have a release date listed for 13 though...

I'm done waiting for that shit and I'm just going to read the scans now. Thanks for your hard work, Ouash!

Well if the prequel series is anything to go by, and the genetic engineering stuff that one French scientist did all on his own, I'd say humanity is on par with Wake technology, if not more advanced since they have no reliance on using psi for everything.

I wondered which of the alien races scared Humanity into making the P-bombs? The Human race must of got shook by them.

Those guys who share a boarder with Wake seem terrified of angering the humans. Or at least that's the impression they were said to give off in this issue.

So they might also share a boarder with the humans and are the buffer between Wake and human space since we know they don't share information.

Now that they have someone with a brain looking at Navis' old ship, they'll probably find out exactly where space faring humans are located and be able to make contact.

I just hope it doesn't turn into another "human kill everything and are always the bad guys" plot.

>the last panel
This guy's design was made specifically for something like that, innit.

>>83902521
And here he looks like he really let himself go. Thin as all fuck.

They seemed to be very close to what HFY faggots always want their fictional humanity to be.

Ah fuck off!

>Le Collectionneur (Wake spin-off)
About Yennisei's pops (the lanky alien)?
>>
>>83950520
It seems to me that humanity has been set up to be the bad guys since they've been painted that way at least twice now.
>>
>>83953348
That would be lame since many of the aliens in Wake haven't been good themselves.
>>
>>83953459
That's probably why humans made the p-bomb in the first place.

They kept encountering space dicks.

Has anybody considered ripping art from this comic to make mods for Stellaris?

I wanna play as the Oragami space Pandas.

It looks more like an example of poor communication kills to me.

From the human perspective, they were surrounded by a bunch of ships who were making no attempt to hail them, nor were they receiving hails.

Human tech and psi tech are wholly incompatible without a lot of modifications in the comic.

I haven't visited /co/ for months because I was waiting for this. Ouash a best.

I agree the point in this panel was the poor communication skills.
But the humans shoot first instead of a non-confrontation solution
They also keep fighting even when they lose the ship.
