>it wasn't even supposed to be officially released

Yeah, people forget that it leaked and WB only released it to at least give people a clear view.

They didn't ever release the Comic-Con Man of Steel trailer with Thin Red Line music, which I think was the best one. Not even on home video.
>>
>>83874604
>especially with the reshoots WB forced
WB didn't force anything. Ayer said:
>"If they don’t like your movie they tend to not want to invest in it. If they love your movie, they give you what you want. And I don’t think there’s any director that finishes a movie and says, ‘Wow that’s perfect, that’s what I really want it to be.’ Every movie I’ve ever made I wish I could go and grab some additional stuff and that’s exactly the chance I got this time. It’s like getting a new car but you get fancy rims and a new stereo.”

>Steve asked Ayer if the reshoots are adding bits and pieces here and there or if he’s adding a significant new set piece, but the filmmaker was tight-lipped about specifics, only saying “all of the above.”

>>
>>83874561
I'm hoping a lot of the grimmy darkness that was present in the first teaser is still present in the final movie but supposedly there's always been a lot of dark comedy as well. These posters kinda reflect that.

>>83874607
People keep on making that comparison but that is stretching, imo. Even for all the success Marvel had with that movie. Even for all of the ways WB has fucked up with the DCEU, I really don't think they're necessarily trying to emulate GotG.
>>
They don't need anymore trailers. It's a month and a half away.

>>83874661
WB "leaks" more than a colander, they need to quit pretending that all this stuff is unofficial instead of a marketing ploy.

to be fair, Suicide Squad looks pretty fun.

The big downside is that they're adapting the shitty New 52 run with Waypool Quinn.

Shit's the exact same as Bendis Guardians, but at least they didn't get a movie.

It reminds me why the New 52 was such a stupid idea, at least in regards to its' attempts at brand synergizing. WB couldn't get their DCCU off before Cereal King was all "nope fuck you, we're going to start bringing the classic stuff back"

When it comes to adaptations of a character, ONLY "Not muh" has meaning. ONLY "Not muh" has value.

Until DC understands that audiences want to see the characters as they know them, it will continue to fail over and over again.

MoS should have been the wake-up call on that. BvS was the inarguable evidence. People know characters a certain way, and want to see that.

It already started with Johns doing rebirths for both comics and movie verses.

This movie was 5 years ago, Anon.
They are still making movies by committee, the only change is the color filter.

So this is DC striking back

Johns as CEO of WB when
>>
Holy fuck, the samefags in this thread is insane.

Okay cool. I admit, I was at first worried DC were planning to kill off Lawton and replace him with Evans at first but clearly with Floyd still in Suicide Squad during Rebirth this won't be happening.

Johns was the driving creative force on the Green Lantern movie tho.

But Martin Campbell was a real director unlike Snyder.

Wish WB stuck to their guns after one flop instead of the next.

People just want to talk about the Suicide Squad movie.

It was just sad.

Johns famously aggravated the people trying to make the film with his meddling.

If you can't stand anything but praise for your pet movie, get the fuck outta here.
>>
>>83876623
No one is saying it's shit, no one has seen it.

People are concerned it might end up awful because it's turned into a Harley/Joker vehicle, has been reshot considerably with the likely intention of making it more so, possibly reducing "the team" into background-filler.

There could easily be enough Joker/Harley/Affleck/Will Smith going on at this point that there's little left for anyone else but fightan scenes.

Slipknot, obviously
Croc
Enchantress

Sure. Get back to us when WB releases into the wild and we can get real reactions.

BvS has destroyed their credibility on this front.

Enchantress has to die. She's the main villain.

I really hope this is good, because its WB's last chance to win back audience investment in the DCEU. But also I hope they dont get carried away with these characters if it does become successful, god knows we dont need a shit ton of spinoffs from this

Tarzan isn't as well revered though.
>>
>>83877138
Tarzan has slightly more cultural cache than John Carter did, though. Johnny Weissmuller's movies in the 30s brought the character into the general public consciousness, and there have been Tarzan movies and TV shows (and satires like George of the Jungle) ever since.

I'm not saying Tarzan is super popular, just that I think the average person would at least have an idea of who the character is, whereas no one but the few people who had read the Mars books recognized the name or character of John Carter.
>>
>>83877244
Tarzan is a lot more revered than John Carter. Most people didn't even know about John Carter.

Tarzan has absolutely no buzz though, it's gonna flop, so it would be a waste of time to put the Suicide trailer during Tarzan.

Maybe the fact that so many people seem to be down on it could work in its favor, possibly.

Hype backlash can be a bitch so when people go in expecting it to be terrible and it turns out to be pretty decent this could be seen as a win.
>>
>>83877457
E. M. Nathanson, the author of the book that the Dirty Dozen is adapted from, was a huge Marvel Comics fan during its 60s heyday and is on record saying that the book was heavily influenced by Guardians of the Galaxy.

During the film's production Robert Aldrich met with Gene Colan at the Marvel offices in NYC several times for advice.
>>
>>83877603
They really should've made the SS movie a Cold War period piece.

>E. M. Nathanson, the author of the book that the Dirty Dozen is adapted from, was a huge Marvel Comics fan during its 60s heyday and is on record saying that the book was heavily influenced by Guardians of the Galaxy.

So his book, which was released in 1965, was inspired by a Marvel group that appeared in 1969 and wasn't even about what the modern Guardians are about?
>>
>>83875265
Not muh ism inherently carries bias and is toxic to all discussion.

Plenty of beloved capeshit characters barely 'resemble the source material' (as if theres ever been more VAGUE a fucking statement - what specific source material are you possibly referring to and what gives that issue/series/run/episode more weight than any other?) but were excused because the movie surrounding them was good.
>>
>>83877761
Me thinks you took the bait.
>>
>>83877761
Colan wrote two versions of the concept, the one published in 1969 and the one later adapted by Dan Abnett in hsis 2008 series.

Nathanson was friends with Stan Lee from his work in the NYC publishing world and knowing each other from the NYC Jewish community. Lee told him about Colan's unused idea, which was combined with research Nathanson had been doing about WWII to create the Dirty Dozen.
>>
>>83877886
Come the fuck on.

You say "Superman" to anyone, anywhere and they all have a similar idea of what he's supposed to be like.

It sure as shit wasn't what was in MoS or BvS.
>>
>>83878066
Is it wrong that when I think of Superman I think of the DCAU version and what I come to hope for?
>>
>>83878066
Invincible guy in blue tights that flies around and is really strong and saves the world.
Superman is a poor case because people tend to reduce him to his powers and feats and his personality is secondary if considered at all.

Most people know him as a shining symbol for good who helps people and does what's right.

Congrats, youve done it. A completely unsubstantiated and tired generalization meant to shut down a discussion through perceived authority.

You are the problem
>>
>You say "Superman" to anyone, anywhere and they all have a similar idea of what he's supposed to be like.

Not really; that's why it's can be so difficult to get him to resonate with people.
>>
>>83874617
>Is the movie going to be a gritty villain driven action movie, or a slapsticky deconstruction of superhero films?

why can't it be both
>>
>>83878176
Dude I agree with you. But when you talk to people that like the Snyderverse they go "WHAT HE FLIES. HE SAVED THE ENTIRE PLANET. HE'S TOTALLY SUPERMAN".

The fact that I wouldn't follow that mopey piece of shit to McDonalds let alone into battle doesn't seem to get through to them because he has a version of the costume and the achievements.

Maybe that other anon is right. If you're so caught up in your own head you can't even tell when someone is on your side then there is a problem.
>>
>>83878321
I'd say "because then you get Green Lantern" but at this point I'm willing to be there are people here that will defend that movie too.
>>
>>83878268
I'm the solution. The problem is Snyder. The cause is people like you thinking that characterization doesn't matter.

Luckily, MoS and BvS were failures, showing that you and your beliefs have literally no value.
>>
>>83878339
>But when you talk to people that like the Snyderverse

We can safely ignore all 3 of them.

Because it's hard to do both serious and silly together well. Not that it's impossible, but usually you just end up with a work having a really uneven tone undercutting the serious parts and killing the humor.
>>
>>83878372
Green Lanterns problem was half assing it from the start. They wrote a script that was tv movie tier, the CGI was shit, and they had most of it set on earth. You have to go all out with the material
>>
>>83878513
>They wrote a script that was tv movie tier,
Uh no dude. The problem was they wrote like THREE scripts. One of which was fucking awesome. It had Alan Scott, the Corps actually doing shit, more time in space, Guy Gardner an Clark Kent cameos, better Star Sapphire references, and no fucking Parallax cloud.

But instead of going with that, then some of the suits said "We want a comedy! People are laughing during Iron Man! Make it like that!" and others still went "It needs drama! Pathos! Like BATMAN!" and so more drafts got written and taken apart and combined so that we ended up with a shambling Frankenstein's monster that you saw on screen.
>>
>>83878948
From what I recall, there were two good scripts. One was a Berlanti one which is the one you're talking about, and the other was one by Geoff Johns.

For some reason they just took random parts from both and thought it'd end up good.
