Ignoring the waifus or fapbait claims, do you think maybe the fact that most of the cast is made up of girls does create some sort of appeal?
Like most western cartoons usually have a cast that's mainly male with one, maybe two, female characters, hence the term token girl character otherwise known in tropes as the Smurfette Principle. Usually the only exceptions are shows that are specifically targeted to girls. So for a show that seems at least gender neutral, is there just something appealing about seeing a cartoon with a diverse cast of girls, with a variety of interests and different degrees of how feminine they are (from tomboys like Lynn and Lana to girly girls like Leni and Lola), for a change?

That's part of it, having multiple girls creates a huge diversity of female characters if you care about that sort of thing.
I've argued before that harem anime ends up being relatively feminist, despite existing to pander to teenage boys, because by its very nature it focuses on a cast of female characters. This kills the Smurfette principle on the spot; you can't have a "the girl" in a cast of girls, so you have to give them at least a little personality, even if they're archetypes. And if it's a harem series that wants to tell a story instead of being lite porn, you have to give the characters more fleshed-out personalities, motivations, etc.; in short, you have to writestrong female characters.
The same principle applies here, without the obvious pitfalls above. You have multiple girls, if you want it to be watchable you have to give them distinct personalities; even if they're stock cartoon types, you still go beyond what usually happens when you have one or two token girls.

I love the sweet family moments that are in almost, if not every, episode. I really like most of the jokes and the overall atmosphere of the show in a time where everyone wants to be deep or full of drama for some reason (I like AT but that shit just kills it for me). It's a breath of fresh nostalgic air that I can just sit down and enjoy in between other shows that are following different formulas like Star Vs. And overall it's one of the few pure comedy series out right now that I can just laugh at, besides Gumball and to a much lesser extent Clarence (like the show but fucking hate that fat fuck 99% of the time).

The kind of relationship the characters have feels much more like family and the characters feel much more like real siblings. In most shows the siblings are given a background role so you have the bully older sibling, the bratty younger sibling, etc leaving only the protagonist for the viewer to identify themselves with. In TLH, despite being described as stereotypes, the characters are fluid. Sometimes they younger sister is being a brat, sometimes she is cute, and sometimes she is scared and needs a hug and the same goes for the protagonist so Savino managed to make a show where every person can find a character/situation they identify themselves with.
