Why is MCU Hulk so small?
I recently rewatched Ang Lee's Hulk and I had forgotten how huge he was in this version. He picks her up later in the scene and her entire torso fits in the palm of his hand.

Because Ang Lee thought "stronger" meant "bigger" so he has Hulk inflate according to strength level.

Stop reading wikipedia pages, read some actual comics. Hulk's height varies all the time. In many, many comics he is portrayed as much bigger than Ang Lee's hulk.

Bruce has daddy issues. Both with his own father and with Betty's father.
Gen. Ross is both an Emotional antagonist to Banner, and a physical antagonist to Hulk.
Banner's dad is the Mental antagonist.
Now, by making David Banner a mental antagonist, and then turning him into a weird Absorbing-Man/Zzzax...thing... he ruins the symbolic conflict of David and Bruce and just turns it into a kaiju fight.
The very nature of David's transformation ties directly into what I said about Ang obsessing over a less-than-key-element about the Hulk--his origin.
Hulk is one of those characters in which his superficial origin can be told perfectly in 30 seconds and the exact method doesn't matter. As long as Banner is blasted with gamma rays. who gives a shit.
Was it a gamma bomb? Was it a science chair? Was it in conjunction with an attempt at recreating the Super Soldier Serum? Doesn't matter. Banner, Gamma rays, BAM, Hulk. Done
And lee spends over 45 minutes of the movie agonizing over each. and. every. thing. in relation to Hulk's origin.
We get starfish and jellyfish DNA, we get nanomachines injected aaaand THEN we get to the gamma radiation.
Hulk is a deep character and the entire mental/emotional aspect of the character is rich for mining good stories from. But goddamn did Ang drop the ball at every turn.
I like the movie more for what it could have been rather than what it ended up being.

well I think you missed the point of the whole origin, was to tie Hulk more directly into that dynamic with his father and with ross.
If you dont like the fight at the end.... well then maybe superheroes arent for you. 90% of superhero conflicts are resolved by fights that are metaphors for the actual conflict. And I think he used Absorbing Man's powers pretty well in his attempt to make them more "psychological"

Ruffalo's Banner is the best onscreen so far. He could be more condescending, cold and abrasive, but his defensive, paranoiac take is hitting many of the right notes for me. Hulk is merely ok. The scene where he chases Widow is p good. Also his petulant flattening of Thor and his meme ragdolling of Loki were amusing moments.
