I read Witch from my sister's collection. I tuned in on Winx from the very beginning.
But goddamnit why are Male Characters in girl shows so fucking insufferable? Always sidelined pompous douches. Generic prince charmings or silent brooding assholes.
But then I turn to anime and see girls being shallow cutesy moeblobs. Or 2deep4u psychopaths.

But it's certainly not a common middleground. Most shows like this either focus on the female cast or focus on the male cast, either ignoring the other side or letting them play minor sidekicks. And most of the shows which you might expect to do well instead typically have the stereotypical girl to round out the cast.
