Batman looks fine without simply because his colors are much more neutral and he has a lot going on around the waist anyway with the utility belt and the like.
Superman definitely needs them though, simply because of how vibrant his colors are.
And honestly, it's not even just slowly turning him into Superman Blue again that kills me, but that they get rid of the trunks, then inexplicably add seams and contours to his uniform to highlight his groin and the absence of the trunks anyway. They did it with the Nu52 armor and they still did it now.
They keep doing stupid shit to the area around Superman's waist and I have no idea why.

I'm fine with Batman not having any, but Supes definitely should. Supes definitely needs to be portrayed more lighter than he currently is, it just doesn't fit his character. Batman on the other hand, fits the whole dark and edge lord feel. Thus, it would make sense his costume would resemble a battle armor more than a costume. After all, he has no powers, just tools. Obviously there's gonna be some built in tech to his outfit, not just the utility belt.
