No, seriously. What other good Spider-Man movies were out at the time? What other good Spider-Man movies are out, even now? Remember that, at the time, the only good superhero movies were the Tim Burton Batman movies and a few of the Superman ones. Every other single one was campy, shit, or both. Spiderman had a relatable main character, a plot that made sense, and good presentation.
It might only rate "average" by general movie standards, but for a superhero movie at the time, it was certain in the top five best.

Eh. Third movie did have some problems, namely trying to shove too much all in at the same time. Also, stupid shit surrounding Osborne and Spiderman getting unmasked all the time, although the last happened all over the place in the second movie as well.
On the other hand, superdork Parker was great and Sandman was a good character.

Spider-Man 1 was good at the time, but holy fuck does it age poorly as time goes by. Effects and dialogue wise. Still a well told story. Simple, but a classic.
Spider-Man 2 is by far the best Spider-Man movie out of the trilogy, but the characters come off as selfish fuckheads and awkward. And not just Peter's angsty ass, MJ is seen as a cockrider the astronaut dude then bails without any consideration.
Spider-Man 3 suffered from overcompensating so many story arcs, too many unnecessary characters being introduced for no endearing reasoning. (Gwen, Captain Stacy, and even Sandman's presence felt week despite the actor's performance). And I cannot stand Topher Grace's version of Eddie Brock. Or the 8 minutes of Venom's action.
I wish I could like the trilogy as much as I did before, butTASM 1 is the best Spider-Man film so far even with its own flaws and nitpicks.Oh and TASM 2 is equal to 3 for similar reasons.
