Io: She was an ancestor of many kings and heroes such as: Perseus, Cadmus, Herakles, Minos, Lynceus, Cepheus, and Danaus.
Ganymedes: became the immortally beautiful cup bearer of the gods.
Danae: becomes mother of Perseus.
And Alcmene, as you mentioned, became mother of Heracles.
I say those are bad examples.

The original designs were ok, it was honestly a different road all together on Pearl, making her more gender neutral
I honestly I am not a huge fan of the art style in general for the pilot, the gems and monsters looked ok, but Steven, the other humans and mundane things just looked bad
