The only real bad part of the series is season 2 because korra regressed as a character. The rest is decent.
I would recommend it because it has good moments and good villains that out weight the weaker parts of the series. However you need to realize going in that this was not the completly envisioned story that the original series was. It started as a six episode mini series, got stretched into a full season. At the end of season 1, Season 2 then got green lit. Then head the end of season 2 I believe they got the go ahead for the other two books.
Realize these things going in and try not to get triggered by the last 5 seconds of the series and your good. But just wiki Book 2. Fuck book 2.

The problem with this episode isn't that Steven cross-dresses. It's that it happens literally out of no where.
The entire episode is focused on how Barb takes everything her daughter is interested in and blows it out of proportion.
It should have ended with Sadie doing the performance in her casual wear or work uniform, the thing she intended on doing in the first place before her mom decided to glitz 'n glam the shit out of it. Sadie even says she wanted to perform in Beach-a-Palooza. If they decided to go with an ending like this, it wouldn't leave a sour taste in everyone's mouths.
But, instead they decided to throw Steven cross-dressing in a completely out of place ending solely for the purpose of tumblr fan-service. That is all the ending is. Tumblr fan-service.
