The first half of the first season is pretty hard to sit through. Steven makes A LOT of dumb kid decisions. A lot of the plot could be solved with the Gems telling Steven about their race and history more than not at all. Also the terrible air dates and bombs. I wish their where a bit more plot centered episodes than "do shit in town". Other than that it's fine.Ruby and Sapphire can feel pretty "forced" though.

Beyond that, character interactions tend to either be cringeworthy or hilarious. Every scenario has to be a drama, every reaction an overreaction. but the whole sci fi aspect and toher things balances this, at least for me.
The animation really fucking sucks and vexes me to no end.

The artstyle is ugly, that's the first thing...and ugly can lend to humor, but this is not that kind of show and it's not that kind of ugly, it TRIES really hard to be cute but just fails and looks generally unpleasant to me.
The characters are all obnoxious to me, not a single one of the main characters is likable or charming at all to me....that's not good.
It seems to want to sit the fence of being both innocent and cute while at the same time deep, progressive, and lore heavy but fails at every one of these things.
