Well, that only makes sense. The image of the ruling class wearing gaudy and elaborate costumes is outdated for several reasons. Not the least of which being that said finery is expensive, and probably paid for with taxes, so unless you want an uprising by peasants who see their hard earned money being squandered on frivolous luxuries, it's best to keep your ensemble simple.

Although I feel like it's gonna be more like his Star Wars work than Suicide Squad.
That might just be because of Jan on draws, though.
>>
>>83700369
>The image of the ruling class wearing gaudy and elaborate costumes is outdated for several reasons.
You say that but, I mean, haute couture...

And rich people dress expensively and celebrities have to look impressive. Gaudiness and elaboration in the rich and ruling ain't dead yet. Though the King of Luxembourg, certainly, probably doesn't look as fancy as he might have several centuries ago.

This is proper Soviet thinking: if the soldier can't control his own direction, there's nothing for Count Vertigo to mess with. The real Molotov would have been proud.
>>
>>83700440
Well, yeah, obviously rulers are still going to dress like they're in charge, and the people wouldn't have it any other way. There's just a certain threshold is all. There's a reason most royals these days tend to wear just suits in the day to day and save the costumes for special events.

Hey, lay blame where blame comes from. Lobdell is just aping from the guy he always has been.

We just read Iron Fist (thanks to PM-IF-Anon) and it was pretty heavily narrated.

>>
>>83700715
Funnily enough, in the X-Storytime somebody posted the Scott/Madelyne wedding that Claremont wrote and the Scott/Jean wedding that Lobdell wrote, and Claremont's pretty much let the art speak for itself while Lobdell's was full of overwrought narration.

FE4 (Genealogy) is about as tough as FF4 Hard; once you start playing conservatively, it starts making much more sense. You do have to play VERY conservatively. Good game overall, maybe the best in the storytelling department

FE5 is not made to be beatable and is 100% bullshit
>>
>>83700939
>"how the fuck do you even do this" hard
A little of this since there are no tutorials. But also hard in the sense that you have to be a genuinely good strategist to beat the game. It's well worth it though, since the characters are pretty likeable for the most part and the story is quite adult.
>>
>>83700970

It's certainly more natural than trying to recapture the era of the Moon landing and the then-unknown reaches of space, I'd more expect another nation to be ballsy with their space program and go Too Far.

Because that's about half of the problem, we're quite comfortable with space now.
>>
>>83701724
You would get crucified trying to write it now. Worth noting that this Kali isn't (or shouldn't be) the goddess Kali either too.

I'd take a Kali comic though, goddess or demon. Give me a WicDiv, throw out all the celebrity bullshit, Kali and Sekhmet are metalheads who get drunk murder + fuck everything.
>>
>>83701905
look at this motherfucker, he thinks he's going to control them like this
>>
>>83701942
>>83701922
I admit that my primary interest in WicDiv now is seeing who of the cast gets to die horribly and how
>>
>>83701915
I think also India as a technological nation that is also technologically challenged and has huge divides in its quality of life and technology is an interesting place for a futurist F4 (who would probably all still come from a position of privilege in that society save for Ben). And you could do some religious stuff too. And Doom could be, like, super interesting. Yogi-style self-mastery powers instead of sorcery, maybe.

>The Color of Friendship
That was it, yes. Love that title, so very 90s.

Yeah, they said it to give the audience context for what "kaffir" actually means. They reasonably enough covered their asses with that.
>>
>>83701969
Whenever I get to that point, I have to take a step back and remind myself that 99% of the time when I'm rooting for everyone to die, NOBODY WILL DIE
>>
>>83701778
That dynamic is great.
>>
>>83701942
>West German currency

Soon to be "German Currency"
And what, Krugerrands too racist to to be your black market money?
>>
>>83702003

Well WicDiv did promise deaths
>>
>>83702003
he's killed a couple of people, I just know that the person I want to die horribly is the author mouthpiece and so will never die or get the deserved comeuppance

So did ASOIAF, but fucking Jon Snow has plot armor and it's making things very uninteresting

I feel like Show Jon has been saved and needed to be saved a lot more than Book Jon. The resurrection has been the big one, but Jon kind of half-asses everything and gets his ass kicked a lot in the show in general.
>>
>>83702203
That's why it's uninteresting. He's suuuuuch a special snowflake and he's not so moving and thought-provoking that he deserves that kind of status

Finally found it.

I'm gonna go back to my stock anti-raceswapping argument here and tell you you're probably better off, creatively, just doing this as original characters.
It's an interesting pitch... but less interesting, IMO for trying to piggyback on an established brand.

There's no benefit to keeping things as it is, people don't want stories with the white F4. Like, in terms of sales, in no format has anyone wanted what they've been selling for a long time.
>>
>>83702362
Yeah, it's only an idle idea from me thinking "If you did the F4 now, what would fit?" I'm in general agreement with you.

Then you're making an even worse argument. You're proposing trying to capture the audience of a dead brand.

Do you live in a world where brands are allowed to die? Much less, Disney brands?
>>
>>83702606
>Black Queen's Mate

Oh god. Waller isn't going to rape someone, is she?
>>
>>83702464
You can say that about lots of things; Omega Men, Forever People, Prez. Stories don't come from what people want to buy, they come from a creative spark. At least, they should.

"We want to revamp them for a new, younger audience" has been the words of death for many a series.
>>
>>83702643
I'm pretty sure it's just a chess metaphor, Gordon.
>>
>>83702622
Yes?

When's the last time you saw Brer Rabbit merchandise?
>>
>>83702606
I find it kind of delightful that I've seen people who are genuinely excited by Garth/Tempest, compared to the people who are mad that he still gets to exist at all when Kaldur is ready to be used
>>
>>83702690
Is that apples to apples?
>>
>>83702695
The Waller/Deadshot dynamic being destroyed like it was by Salvation Run is a fucking crime even if it gave us S6.
>>
>>83702739
Oh Werner, honey, I know you can't help it...
>>
>>83702739
Deadshot really doesn't know what he wants. I could even ship this.
>>
>>83702763
Anon, you are totally right that Vertigo is John Ostrander's stage actor self peeking through.

this has repercussions.
>>
>>83702739
Well, that's certainy an anti-climax to remember.
>>
>>83702695
>assassin is sent to kill someone
>target pays assassin ton work for them instead
I love this trope, and I love Waller.

>Garth and Kaldur
I'm surprised there hasn't been any visible shipping of the two. Not that I encourage that, but it just seems like something that would happen.
>>
>>83702763
>guy trying to make Vertigo into a disposable slave is named Capek

I love you, John Ostrander.
>>
>>83702817
>I'm surprised there hasn't been any visible shipping of the two. Not that I encourage that, but it just seems like something that would happen.
Characters generally need to interact at least once to make that happen
