Can't find the panel but Aquaman saves a group of sharks from a fishing net by cutting a hole in the net. Sharks don't realize right away that there's a way out and instead talk about how nice the net is.

Dolphins and lobsters are mammals and crustaceans, respectively. They're not fish in any meaningful sense.
The problem isn't that he has an incredibly stupid power, it's that he's been called on his bullshit. The Animal Man run from a few years back has Buddy talking to all kinds of things that really, really aren't animals in any meaningful sense, but because it was enjoyable (and short) it didn't really get called out.
Aquaman is just a filler on a team that really doesn't need any more god-like powers or actual gods on it, so to make him seem cool without stepping on Batman's toes they call him a king and say he basically rules 2/3 of the planet. Unfortunately it's the 2/3 that everybody pisses into.
You could have a lot of fun with Aquaman, you know, have him confront Dwayne Johnson about his cod habit funding slave-boats in the China sea that are sweeping it clean, it doesn't all have to be multinationals dumping stuff and the whole Captain Planet thing chasing after them. You can go after jerks, you can tell stories about the sea as a living, working place for humans as well as animals, you can do more.
But they don't. They just write him like a joke and wonder why everybody thinks he's a joke. It's because he's the guy who should be left behind whenever the JL goes out, since he literally brings nothing to the team that gods, aliens, and Batwank don't already have, and every time you justify his existence with a power level bump you're just setting up for the next power level bump from literally every other member of the team, because nobody wants to write a book that's lamer than Aquaman.

Aquaman should train to enlarge his anal cavity. The comics could show him working through progressively bigger dildos until he can finally crap 20 live eels up his ass. His custom would have an opening his ass. When fighting he would bend over and his firm ass muscles, hardened from years of swimming, to fire high speed anal eels from his ass hole.
