But let's be honest. If we had to pick a universe with/without Ahoska, most of us would pick the one with her. It made Anakin's turn to the darkside more believable. I'm surprised they managed to pull it off.

It works because the movies don't really address any past, are pretty episodic, and take place years apart. So you can add anything and everything.

Because she( and her character arc) are the same as Luke Skywalker's was in the OT.
She's the fish out of water, a young Jedi padawan who is taking her first steps into a new world. It also helps that she's very non-invasive to the overall plot of the show( as opposed to say, Jar-Jar). She serves as an optimistic foil to Anakin's snarky cynicism.
Gee, sort of like Luke and Han?
Also, it brings out a much needed more humanistic side of Anakin other than the emo bitch whiner you see in episode II and III.

that's just it, the established lore was shit. Any change to it was very likely going to be an improvement.

I like this show because later on it got a whole lot better (primarily in season 3), and Ahsoka became a much more likable character.
