Cars and Incredibles just fuck with everything.
Like half of the Pixar movies take place in specific time periods, so half of this isn't a theory at all, and the rest are connected by such great leaps of the imagination that it only makes sense if you want it to.
It also feels like a case of Pixar fans "finding" Pixar's brilliance where their own imaginations must create it, since the films with the least worldbuilding, Cars and Monsters, Inc., get the most explaining and contextualizing.

Monsters Inc is a fae realm style pocket dimension, not the future. There is nothing to suggest it involves time travel, MI's energy problem is entirely based on human children being desensitized to violence and scary shit.
And if Boo's supposed to be the Witch from Brave, why the fuck is her carving obsession based around bears instead of you know something like "KITTY!"?
This is a timeline produced by Pixar artist Bud Lucky when they were making Monsters Inc and trying to figure out the history of the monster world.
Besides this thing, scanned from a pullout in The Pixar Treasures, there is also a featurette on the DVD release of Monsters Inc telling the story of the "Mans" and the "Mons" and how our ancestors drove a smelly hairy race of hominids out to sea. They eventually stumbled upon an enchanted island and after eating the fruit there, took on various strange features and all sorts of shapes and sizes, becoming the first monsters. After realizing how terrifying they had become, they decided to scare the shit out of cavepeople in revenge and that's how scaring began.
Monsters, Inc. & its prequel is set in a dimension that crosses through the main plane, while the Cars universe runs parallel. Not that complicated as some have made it into a timeline.
