I don't even know what this strip says because all I can see is Tall Dina and Copy-Paste Interns. Good job, Willis.

Patreanon, does any of this matter tomorrow?
>>
Not Patreanon, but:
>does any of this matter tomorrow?

It's "Dumbing of Age". Nothing ever matters.

Nothing of importance. Robin thinks she has huge tits though. Tiny handed freak.
>>

He's not even trying to be subtle, is he
>>

>>83622792
Willis needs never to even attempt political satire ever again. This is even more painful to read than usual.

People like dainty woman it's when men have tiny hands that it's funny. Come on man if you're gonna steal jokes from sunny do it right.

This is just......terrible.

I'm actually floored by how bad this is.
>>
>>83622966
Assuming this is 2010, the joke is still dated by 2 years.
>>
>>83622966
Honestly the real palin is funnier then this.
>>
>>83622792
I really, really, REALLY want to believe that this is fake. I know it's not, but I want to believe.

Thanks for sharing.

Now if only we could find out why this is being shoved down our throats.
>>
>>83622966
she has a mock Make America Great Again hat
>>
>>83622792
This is about as subtle as a brick wall.

I think we're hitting a weakness of Willis' months-long buffer. He writes "timely" humor that ends up falling flat because it doesn't come out until three months after the fact. It's sort of like how "South Park"'s week-long production period can allow for references to recent events while shows like "The Simpsons" take far too long to make satirical references to those same events simply because of the length of episode production.

All of these jokes are going to be immediately dated. Like in a years time. Except unlike shortpacked which is always topical, DOA is in a sliding timescale of a period of months, so this will still have happened like...last week in universe.
Also, I can't even call half of these jokes. It's like he's just...referencing things OTHER funny people pointed out months ago.

All that being said, Robin is still my favorite Willis girl and I am all for her "huge honkers"
>>
>>83622792
Every time a shitty internet-popular comedian does a really lame and pathetic job making fun of Trump, my urge to vote for him purely out of spite increases just a little bit.

I can't imagine writing the script for this strip and thinking "yeah, that looks good. I've done a good job for that day."

Also the sameface is so strong that I keep thinking Frieda looks like Billie or Dina or Mary. If she disappears for a while and reappears without introduction it will be impossible for me to remember which character she is.
>>
>>83623261
Now that you bring that up, looking only at panels 1 and 4, could you tell who the fuck these people are? I'd assume slightly off model thin Billie talking to Dina or something.

>>
>>83623272
It's weird, for me it's every time I read a story about someone saying Trump graffiti or a trump sticker is hate speech. Fuck you and fuck your shit liberals. People who have different ideas from you are allowed to express them and if your only defense is to yell racism at them, you have no argument. Bad ideas should be made public so they can be logically argued against, fucking dumbasses.

Political discussion has essentially devolved into team sports where neither side can actually open up to ideas or a possible middle ground.

That's fine, it gives them at least two years to work something out or something else to take voters attention. Best case scenario for them is the Republicans take the White House and the economy improves. A lot of people stop caring about economic reforms and immigration when they're not worrying about money.

Not that anon, but it seems like Willis works on addiction and gambling models.

If you like to read books, think about this: have you ever been reading and you can't put the book down? You keep telling yourself "just one more chapter"? This is done by delaying rewards. You see a scheme go into action but switch to different characters before you find out if it works. Cliffhangers work on this principle. The same goes for T.V., of course, but with episodes instead of chapters.

Gambling works on the principle of occasional rewards. If you're playing on a slots machine, then you're going to notice that you're not winning every often. So why do people do it? The machine allows them to win juuuuust often enough for them to want to keep playing, just in case they strike it big on the next round.

You can also see this with crane-game machines. The tension in the claw varies depending upon the algorithm determined by the owner of the arcade. Some places will give better chances after 10 losses, while others will be less often. You are always made to feel like you have a chance.

There are occasional rewarding strips in the Walkyverse. However, they have come by far less often in recent years. It's easy to spend a long time being a fan of something if they occasionally produce something you enjoy. The only reason I was able to step away from it is that it went too long without a strip that felt rewarding for me.

If you follow webcomics, then there's always that one where you really want it to update more often, but it just plain doesn't. And eventually, you just stop checking.
>>
>>83640885
IW! was good dammit. f-fuck you, clown.
>>
>>83642720
It doesn't really work on either model. Addiction model would imply a need for progressively greater rewards while a gambling model would imply a set chance of a good strip. It's more about the psychology of familiarity and the alignment of personal opinions.
>>

>possibly Putin's puppet

Not really though? I think Trump is just the only candidate to recognize that Russia's return to superpower status is inevitable and a huge waste of resources in trying to prevent. Instead of fighting to preserve the monopolar distribution of power that we had, he's working towards a more stable biopolar distribution of power- Russia can also be a superpower, and possibly even a rival, but we're not constantly worried about engaging in nuclear warfare for the sake of world domination. Really, Trump is taking the more sane stance of fighting a battle that we CAN win- preventing Saudi Arabia from becoming a superpower via the spread of Wahabbism. The reason we don't already fight that battle is that we're financially intertwined with the Saudis, plus their rise to power puts a dent in Russia's rise to power.

>>
>>83645728

>>
>>83644000
Right, it almost worked for a while. Shortpacked!, for example, was occasionally funny. Willis is capable of fulfilling these models, but he's stopped making the strips worth it, so it's easier to quit reading now than it was before.
>>
>>83640885

You tell me.
>>
>>83645808

Not eliminating per se, but rather containing and marginalizing. It's better that the middle east be another theater for the rivalry between east and west rather than a third superpower run by the people who were complicit in the 9/11 attacks and the rise of ISIS.

>>83645869

I used to like Shortpacked, and generally just skipped the conflict with the customers. But it reached this point where suddenly every single strip felt like Willis needing to take potshots at people he didn't like and that's when I had to jump ship.
>>
>>83645869
Willis' worth is as an object lesson for writing exercises. Shitposting and personal attacks aside, in these threads we sit down and communally critique his work from multiple lit-crit paradigms. Part of me feels bad, or at least a little sad, for Willis; he's shown a knack for setup and character building but doesn't have the skills to push it into something good. Part of me wants him to check his pride and take a step back to really examine his work and identify his flaws so he can address them. Take some writing courses, get a co-writer, get a good, firm editor, just something to help him improve.

Another part of me wants to see if we can push him into having a stress-induced seizure.

On one hand, it being huge would be consistent with her being the most well off person in the strip. However, it being small and her being bothered by that would be justification for why she feels she has to get up in everyone's face, annoy them and constantly wear skates so she can physically loom over them.

Huge, tho.

Sal straightens hers, despite being angry at her parents about them liking how her hair looks straight better than when its curly, and Walky supposedly has naturally straight hair. Keep in mind that Walky's hair isn't long enough to show curls unless he had tight curls.
>>
>>83646554
>he's shown a knack for setup and character building but doesn't have the skills to push it into something good

Many webcomics creators sincerely believe throwing together characters who'll clash with each other is sufficient story material.

Planning and writing story arcs is WORK and it's more fun to just have characters being bitchy to each other, especially since the average reader will easily settle for this (at first).

You don't have to have a fixed ending in sight for your webcomic but you should have a clear idea of where the story arcs are going and stick to them.

There's also the more subtle bio-engineering aspects to either tinker with yourself, or make an awesome person from scratch.

It's a bit more trite when they're just raging against someone with a robot arm and 'her kind'. Until she lost her arm in an accident a few months prior, they were both the same kind.

I was at one point, but when Furman left IDW, I lost interest. Simon Furman is my favorite TF writer and probably the man I associate the most with TF. I'm guessing Willis probably has some sort of grudge against him though.

>>

Yeah, with Sal you could just treat it as her hair losing her treatment. Just a kinda ethnic spin on the classic frizzy hair. Fine as a one off, and a decent excuse to go into Sal's hair and how it relates to her identity. But 2 points make a line, and now it's this trend of "do bad in school => get more ethnically black* hair." Also, in this case it was just a one strip callback with no real follow up to it.

*Or however the right way to phrase that is.
>>
>>83649331

I think the joke is supposed to be that Walky saw his grades and got so upset that his hair conditioner gave out, but yeah, that's an unfortunate little mistake.
