I've adopted two. One was Brownie a mean (but not mean like vicious, just a bitch who would growl at everyone who wasn't my dad who spoiled the hell outta her) dog who lived to 16. Her hips eventually failed her. Near the end she couldn't control her bowels and we decided to put her down. Still loved her. She could be a big sweetie at times, but she begged a lot like eventually it got really bad because my dad would let her lick his plate and she tried that shit on all of us.
My other one Lily. She's the nicest dog, but very skiddish. She doesn't like being around other dogs unless it's to hunt. When we first got her she killed went out to our front walkway darted under a push and got a bunny. Ate that thing bones and all. I might post pictures. I made sure that my dad doesn't spoil her. She's adorable at times because she can't stand my family yelling at the tv about sports, then she'll wander over by me or lay down in my room and accidentally tear down my curtains.
I'd recommend the hell outta her breed, but they get these fatty tumors (aren't cancer, just fat deposits or something) and near the end it's just pitiful to look at when they have trouble moving they're legs because of it. They also require a lot of walking and exercise. They can also get air and have nearly jumped me at 6'3.
Sorry for the blog post. Just can't really talk about my dogs to anyone really.
