I do kinda wish there was an anime that had a Justice League/Avengers sort of team. You have to understand, shonen anime is all about the fights and power levels. Take the power levels away from the best super hero comic stories you still have good stories, because they're about character and a sense of wonder. Take the power levels away from a shonen anime and you're left with nothing.

Bronze Age comics were big on alternate post-apocalyptic time lines and their characters crossing over with the "regular" time line. Like Killraven, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deathlok, Kamandi, Jonah Hex (when he went into the future), etc.
Kenshiro fits the archetype pretty well. He comes from a timeline the heroes are hoping to prevent happening in their own. Classic comics.

Basically this. Ever since the 1960's comics have been more soap opera than it is about action. This is why there are so many characters with completely OP powers, because the primary focus is the stories/symbolism and the main character is just an accessory to that. In shonen (from what I've seen) the primary focus seems to be the main character and the story is just sort of an accessory.
