>On The Way Out Wacky Races!

The cars approach the starting line.
All competing for the title of wackiest racer.
Starting off with Peter Perfect, Penelope Pitstop,
And the ever incorrigible, and shifty, Dick Dastardly..

This is-

Last but not least -

Dick Dastardly and Muttley in the Mean Machine #00

I like it.
The writing is pretty good. But the art really detracts from the races for me.
>>
>>83598993
Oh, and flying Nazi? I guess he's one in red jacket and weird hair on panel left to Peter? >>83598886
>>
>>83599271
Yeah, he seems to have the same aviator's ruff around his jacket's neck.
>>
>>83599237
I think they could be closer, but there's a certain degree of fucking you have to do to get them to fit. I like 'em well enough.
I'd like it if the art and choreography was a little clearer, but for the most part this seems stupid and fun.
>>
>>83599353
> they could be closer

this comic was bad. and I mean really bad. Unpleasant and ugly. and Most importantly, Manco's art lacks the sort of speed and kineticism required for a comic about ya know racing. If they had gotten a Manapul type or hell Manapul himself it would have upped this from a 1.5/5 to a 3/5. But the comic, even for its mad max-ian approach, lacks any of what made mad max and its most recent sequel fun

>>
Eh, it doesn't do a good job of introducing all these characters and the cluttered art definitely makes it worse.
>>
>>83600151
Coward wouldn't have attempted to save her.

I can't recall how he was in the cartoon, but it seems here he is brave but not composed.
>>
>>83599269
Something tells me Dick is in this more than just to get to Utopia. And likely tap that Pitstop.
>>
>>83600303
Yeah the jumping back and forth doesn't help either.
Because we hardly get a feel for the racers before switching again.

But...it definitely has some potential.
As long as it tries to seperate the slow from the quick next time.
>>
>>83600336
Well, in the Wacky Races Foreverpilot, Dick was actually a ringer set to stop others from winning the race.

>>
>>83600607
It seems to me that they're playing up that he's nominally the most clean cut guy in a group of people racing to the death.

It'd be better if he wasn't apparently such a punching bag, but I'm anticipating his origin.
>>
Thanks Dave

Isn't the plot of Scooby that a mutant virus has taken over the world?
>>
>>83600767

But then the flashbacks indicate that...society was rebuilt by the time of the floods/earthquakes
>>
>>83600151
wasn't peter inept in the show like a dudley dooright
Penelope was a damsel most of the time so her subversion was expected.
>>
>>83600777
Yeah, I just reread it. Just not a good comic, it's hard to tell what's going on
>>
>>83599128
Does the woman really have to be the competent, flawless badass while the men around her are all still one-note cartoon stereotypes from the '70s? I have no probably making them broad stereotypes, but shouldn't they ALL be that way if that's the case? I am old fag who actually remembers Wacky Races, and Penelope Pitstop was just as ridiculous as the rest.
>>
>>83600848
Well, there's apparently 5 minutes worth of his car being totaled.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXZkmFFPy8A

>>83600851
That's the worst thing about it.
>>
I get that Penelope was an extremely one-note damsel in the original, but did they have to overcompensate by making the groups major badass? Why not just make all of them normally competent?
>>
>>83601191
Hopefully they're just playing it up for the introduction.
I gotta admit, while the art and composition for this need some serous work, I'm actually kinda digging the world and characters so far. These car designs are crazy good, and with a little fleshing out, I think I could come to like a lot of the supporting cast.
>>
>>83600301

>>83601376

The race looked...incoherent.
>>
>>83598815
you're unbelievable
tum tu rum tum
>>
>>83599269
I like the art a lot more than I thought I would, but yeah this series could use someone with a cartoonier style.
>>
>>83598815
don't see what's wrong with Peter, wasn't his running gag is that he "saves" Penelope Pitstop and that his car always gets totaled?
>>
>>83598927
I love this spread, shame that the race itself is incredibly hard to follow. Which sucks because the Ghost Racers Mini showed that a comic about wacky races can be enjoyable. It just jumps too much from scene to scene.
>>
>>83598961
See here, the story's so hard to follow that I didn't realize that Dick and Muttley were sabotaging the bridge until my 2nd reading.
>>
This is so bizarre. It should not exist.
>>
>>83598961
My money's on the announcer having something to do with the catastrophes.
>>
Not bad. Loved the post apocalyptic monsters's stuff!
>>
It's a bit better read after the 2nd one, I think if someone storytimes these pages chronologically (Since as of now it jumps back and forth between the bar and the race) it would make more sense.
>>
>>83602546

Doing it for you anons, here's the Wacky Races Storytimed in a way that it doesn't jump from the Bar to the Race. I dreadfully hope that the next issue will have more Racing now that they've introduced some of the cast. I'm gonna alter some pages (The ones that have story bits that jump in between them) so Get Ready (I'm not gonna include the Back-Up in this one). Just give me a few minutes to sort everything and I'll start.

This is the Wacky Races Storytime 2.0 The Book is actually in Chronological Order Edition
>>
>>83598968
>--HELLLLP!

>>83598993
Huh, so the Red Max is a crazy Nazi now. Makes sense, I guess, though I'd hoped for more the emotionally-torn honorable pilot trope.

>Who gives a damn about Peter?
I wonder if this was meant as a double entendre after Max going on about how important the Private's "junk" was to his identity.

I love all the details here. They were a bit hard to make out in the smaller resolution. The Creepy Coupe being a car covered in the skeletons of some gigantic mutant beasts and the Convert-A-Car being a bunch of vehicles piled together are great.

Also, is the Boulder Mobile literally just a hunk of molten slag with tusks on wheels?

You know, given how the solicit framed this issue as being normally chronological makes me wonder if this was chopped up in "post production"

Because it's honestly readable either way.
Hell, you could make the Penelope Pitstop origin the prologue.
That way the "real bastards to race with" bit leads nicely into the RACING SPREAD>

That and her having the Anthill Mob at her command is enough, it's not like she's a "strong womyn who don't need no man"

and that's the end. How was it viewers? A much better read? Hopefully next issue is paced much better.

>>83603540
I'm thinking of using this set up in later storytimes but adding the Penelope origin as the prologue.

It works so well as a prologue it's insane it wasn't released that way.

I like how the Ant-Hill Mob look like molemen.
>>
>>83603540
I really hope this comic manages to iron out it's issues.
There's real potential here, and considering how good all the other Hanna Barbera comics have been, it'd be a shame if this one ends up being the dud of the lot.

>>83603540

It's...not really a good comic. I barely even watched the old series, so I don't really care much about comparing them.

Just on its own merit, it's mediocre at best.

It's generic "post-apocalypse story #2349".
>>
Are they, and whoever writes the dialoge, supposed to come off as pretentious blowhards?
>>
I enjoyed it. If only because I like it when people take a old IP and revamp it in some way.

This was just awful. Completely misses the point of both wacky races AND mad max, and tries to create some horrid Frankenstein's monster of the two that just looks disgusting. The personalities are even more bland and boring than the original's, and I didn't even think that was possible. The art is an incoherent train wreck that makes it near impossible to make out what going on. Future Quest is the only really good book out of this line, everything else is such a massive waste it's not even funny.
>>
>>83609892
>Future Quest
The Space Ghost origin was the best part of that.
>>
>>83598815
This comic is good, but a mess. They shouldn't have jumped around like they did. This >>83602888 is the right way to do it. I think if they're going to have the cars talk, they should maybe be fleshed out a bit more. They all seem pretty similar in personality. Loved all the characters though. I really enjoy how they're all crazy scum but they don't kill each other because they "like" the race. Kinda "Mad Max-ish." Definitely will keep reading.

For the its the issue of Mad Max meets Whack Race it is exactly what I expected. It is enjoyable, lets wait to see how things will go, there are more than 10 named characters fighting for the spotlight and this was mostly our introduction to the world.

Next issues will probably be focused on different characters.
>>
>>83602903
And he STILL stops to mess with the other racers. Dastardly obviously has the fastest machine, if he just straight up drove instead of stopping to cheat all the time, he'd win every race with ease.

>>
>>83617074
Well, let's see the solicit

>As the Racers roar through the ruins of San Francisco, Dick Dastardly takes a detour that uncovers a shameful secret from his pre-apocalypse days. Dick has a difficult decision: repeat the mistake that shattered his past, or man up and do the right thing? But does Dick even know what the right thing means? Meanwhile, Peter, Penelope and the others face a swarm of flesh-eating nanites that threatens to strip them to the bones
>>
>>83617074
Nah, it's a really good idea, but the execution did feel less than that(mainly because of art). I still enjoyed it enough to read more.
>>
>>83617159
Let's hope that his past has to do with catching a pigeon.

I wanted to love it guys, I really did, I've been waiting for this book since I was 5... but the art is beyond awful, it's on it's own level of absolute shit.

God damn it.
>>
>>83612735
yep fits better, the only off thing would be that it sorta implies this is her first race?

>>83612975
Art honestly isn't that bad. It's a bit grimy and dirty but it comes with the aesthetic, the characters themselves look like they were modeled off Poser but they have diverse enough body types and faces (Unlike say Janin's or Zircher's) for it to work. Characterization would be something that'll get better overtime, more or less expect the three main characters Peter, Dick, and Penny to take most of the characterization here.

>>83618663
Hopefully not, I expect them to at least do everyone's Origins as Back Ups before they start offing people.
>>
>>83621659
I could try to photoshop it to say "much later".

It's a month until the next issue.
I think that's enough time to really make this re-edit a finely tuned reality.

And I agree with your point about the art, but the race looked bad.
>>
>>83598815
Bump
>>
>>83621784
Yeah, the problem with most poser art is that they don't show motion that good unless done well which really shows here. It's good for splash pages and moments with impact but just not for high speed chases

>>83621884
we're barely in page 5 anon
>>
>>83600676
I agree. In the originally wacky races his do-gooderness was just a slight flaw, in this version it's all but a death sentence and the fact that he's surviving at all is a good indicator that he's not the chump he seems to be.

Actually, if anything I except this to end with Peter turning out to be the ringer and Dastardly to turn out to be a Mad Max style lone wanderer.
>>
>>83621970
It doesn't really compliment the writing either.
There are barbs and disses being passed back and forth and its just coming off as stilted due to this supposedly being fast speed.
>>
>>83618663
I didn't even click the pic until you said that. Why did you say that? That's not the Army Surplus Special. That's Dastardly's crew from Catch The Pigeon. Check the goggles.

Yeah, I gotta admit, the sly references amuse me. I mean, they're not exactly subtle, but they're not all zoom in and point an arrow at it. You either catch them or you don't.

Also I have a slight but surprising sad at the thought of those lovable misfits being dead. Calling it now, The pigeon catcher crew were after a courier who was carrying something that triggered the apocalypse, and when the shit hit the fan Dastardly bailed on them and left them to die.

I liked the idea of it being a satire of the cartoon by making it look so much like Mad Max. I had hoped thered be a degree of tonal dissonance between the art and dialogue, and it really seems not to be the case, and as though all the anons who said
>we want the Mad Max audience
turned out to be right. I think I agree with other anons that the book could benefit from a cartoonier art style.
>>
You know I thought I'd give it a chance because it's Wacky Races and they're doing some kind of apocalyptic rockabilly thing with it but this kinda sucks.

It's ugly and messy and why the fuck do the cars talk? What does that add? The racers already talk to each other anime style. Did they do the jump back and forward thing to distract us from how the race itself wasn't very good or exciting?

I do like them all hanging out together as frenemies though. That's fun.
