Hated it. Not a burning hatred, but an overwhelming sense of cold, grim displeasure. Only thing this issue had going for it is that the art is kind of nice. Otherwise it's clear that Tynion doesn't know these characters and doesn't know how to write a story through anything but exposition. The writing is just bad.

It's a known thing. It was a part of a larger shakeup in the batbooks that was scheduled to coincide with Infinite Crisis. The plan was, Dick dies (he was lagging in popularity at the time), Jason becomes Nightwing to replace Dick, Cass becomes the "black sheep" character to replace Jason, and Kate becomes the token female to replace Cass. That was Snyder, who is a fan of Tim, Steph and Cass and wanted to use them as far back as Issue one. Harper was originally a compromise. Snyder included Cass in Gates and fought tooth and nail to have her.
None of this means Snyder actually would have executed this well. Dixon created Steph and largely made Tim. He also had a heavy hand in Cass' character to. Dixon and Snyder couldn't be more different in terms of sense.

I don't think he's dead, but yeah there's no way to reconcile his N52 origin with Knightfall. I'm just going to keep a headcanon that ignores the N52 origins of Tim, JPV, and Cass. It makes everything easier.
The whole concept of this book is stupid and demeaning. Treating heroes with decades of history like they're rookies and need miss "I failed US Army"'s handholding. Putting in Karlo blatantly because the writer can't write any of the characters that matter.
Why couldn't they have just made a straight team book?
