>>
>>83594826
It goes both ways. In story he's talking about Luthor. But to the reader Jurgens is also conveying that this is the real Superman not the one we were reading about for five years.
>>
>>83594948
there's an easy explanation here:

the New 52 Superman we saw on "The Final Days of Superman" wasn't the real one.
>>
>>83594879
But there's all this shade being thrown around.
>>
>>83594909
>inb4 he's actually another clark
>>
>has found nothing dirty on Lex Luthor despite trying
>knows Luthor saved the world from villains when there were no heroes around to do so
>knows Luthor was a Justice League member who did not do anything dirty on the League
>attacks him anyways
This is a hate-filled Superman, and I am absolutely disgusted.
>>
>>83594989
It probably was, he just didn't actually die, merely lost his powers and they've been redistributed to Kenan and post-FP Lois. That's the obvious route to go here in my opinion. Explains why this new Clark is just Clark and why we have two new people running around with powers.
>>
>>83594845
No, this is a DC storytime.
>>
Is it me or has the Superman line just been drying the death and return of superman dry lately? I swear this is like the 5th time we've done this song and dance since nu52 started.

>>

I didn't see something like this happening in a while
>>
>>83595006
Yeah I don't know why anyone trusted Jurgens to "bring back" pre-Flashpoint Superman. I could get general distrust of Luthor but he's acting like a child right now and it's definitely NOT MUH. They needed to get a real writer for this.
>>
Why can't we just have Luthor as a protagonist and a cool anti-hero, do we need do cram every Clark possible into this? Disappointed.
>>
>>83595015
Well this is kind of jurgens stroking his own dick since he wrote the death of superman
>>
Well, Mr. Oz did tease that neither Superman are who he thought he was. To date the most likely scenario seemed to be that Superdad would be revealed to be the actual Superman of this Earth and New 52 Superman was something else.

There already was a Doomsday focused arc and it had appeared once before in Superman/Wonder Woman, I think. Morrison's run also referenced a "Doom's day" when Superman had supposedly died and how it seemed kind of similar to the final battle of his run.

Not really. Morrison saw to it that in terms of personality traits new 52 Superman was interesting and not a bore like post crisis Superman. He was a socialist, a Kryptonian with an attitude to change the world. Superman and Clark Kent had different personality. But it all got fucked up real bad once he left.

>had appeared once before in Superman/Wonder Woman

The New 52 Super Doom story line carried over in the Superman titles, Batman/Superman team book, the SM/WW team book and even partially in the Supergirl book. There was no separate Doomsday focused arc just in SM/WW.

But you're right, Morrison did already mention Doomsday and Clark's death in Action in his third set of issues (it really really one big arc). But his Doomsday was something totally different. And he was also using to make multiple comments on various things, in typical fashion.

>>
>>83595470
>3 new origins
He got two slight additions, Waids and Johns were fairly similar with most of the distinctions being stylistic (Johns bringing in the Legion because he was already planning the New Krypton and other arcs, Waid with the vegetarian Clark, etc.).
>>
>>83596119
Compared to Nightwing those sales were lackluster because a lot of not muh fags didn't buy Grayson
>>
>>8359509

The point is too bring back the old readers that left the Superbooks in droves after the Flashpoint reboot initial look-see died down. None of them (really no one) wants to see Luthor top line a Super book.
>>

Compared to Byrne those aren't "slight." Also Byrne Superman had the whole "Clark Kent is real, Superman is just a mask" deal going whereas Waid literally went meta and retconned that horseshit.

From what I remember of Birthright, he writes it like there's no mask at all, Superman's just the same earnest Clark but in a cape, very similar to Landis' American Alien.
>>
>>83594879
>First thing he did when he came to New 52 Earth

There's a limit to what he could have done without resources and on his own, on the side from hiding, etc.

Plus with post FP and pre this issue Lex has been in jailed, killed people, cloned Superman and done all sorts of other shit.

Johns writing him as having any real role in helping end the Crime Syndicate was just his 'twist' of Luthor being president for this generation of readers.

He's a super villain and always will be. The entire point of S-TAS, JL/JLU was that Lex got away with shit and Clark and Lois nor the combined Justice League including Bat God couldn't prove anything or make it stick. Or if they did, circumstances changed shit so he was exonerated.
>>
>>83596222
Black Ring was fine. I have no problem with Luthor in it, it's a good story and I agree with the Anon above that it would be a more interesting adaptation to do now than another Doomsday story line (although Berganza wouldn't agree).

But Black Ring didn't make Luthor a 'cool anti-hero.'

>>83596176
Fair point - but they didn't make wholesale changes. He wasn't, say married all of sudden, or had a child, or older, etc.

I think Waid and Johns essentially changed what they didn't like of Brynes. If it were me, I would have changed more. Like the whole Kryptonian back story he developed.

>>
>>83596293
DCAU Lex is based on stuff that happened all the time Post-Crisis.

Lex leaving no proof of his criminal dealings or constantly lawyering his way out of Superman's accusations was a running theme for like two decades of comics.
>>
Lex's a super villain and always will be.
>>
>>83596238
A mod must have deleted what I replied to - and since posting was down, it didn't get captured in Desu, I just checked.

But the Anon was saying, essentially, what was wrong with Luthor being a cool anti-hero, etc. etc. of Metropolis

>>83596293
I could say the same thing, in the late 1990s before he became President and even the post 2000s books after those story lines, Clark and Lois were constantly investigating Luthor and not being able to make. Disregard whatever the F you want, it doesn't mean you're right.

>>83596293
>officially did nothing wrong
So being in a prison during the H'el story line was just a dream, huh?
>>
Lex is the true hero of the DCU and has literally done nothing wrong while pre-Flashpoint Superman is a negligent piece of shit who assaults people trying to help others
>>
>>83596351
>So being in a prison during the H'el story line was just a dream, huh?

Correct, Lobdell is basically non-canon
>>
>>83596240
For that matter shouldent he be on apokalips right now

Also god I loved that page it was a fucking perfect show of luthors egomania
>>
So taking out the symbol of Luthor's family out of his chest after politely asking him to remove it is an attack? Luthor DID attack first, all the Superman went to do was to remove his family's crest from Luthor's chest. Completely reasonable to me.
>>
>>83596360
Batman TRUMP YOU SUCKS:D

Honestly his attitude toward Luthor doesn't bother me. He hasn't met a Lex Luthor he's liked and that's fine. This Lex IS dirty, we all know it.

Whenever this Lois and Clark have talked of Lex (including in this issue) they never mention this and just say that he seems to be clean in this world. So I think it's safe to assume that is being ignored. But it's fair to say that is canon. Justa s it's fair to say that this Superman did nothing in Forever Evil while the Justice League were dead and the Crime Syndicate were attacking the world. Instead it was Lex Luthor who tried (and succeeded) to save the world,.
>>
>>83596578

>>
>>83595681
Because New52 still hasn't had any big crossover with an alternate world like that. Earth-3 duplicates were obviously different from the originals, just with some similarities. And that's their only real experience with people from another world (aside from the now dead Superman and Bizarro Earth, I guess).

>>83596119

Grayson initially sold 40k+, it fell off after DCYou though.
>>
>>83597080
The discordance between Supes and Lois' lessons to their kid and Supes' behavior towards Luthor is intentional I think. Look at the third and fourth panels there >>83594840

Just because it's intentional, doesn't mean it's a good idea or even well-executed though.

>>
>>83594565
>>
I didn't like this issue that much, Superman acted too much like an idiot and provoked Lex. I would have preferred if instead of just getting straight into an argument with Lex he'd instead go around the world at lightning speed, stopping multiple disasters. As news of a superman looking individual saving so many comes in, all the reporters would talk about that thus overshadowing Lex's public debut.
>>
>>83597554
Yes, we know that. But Superman doesn't. And that's why comes off looking like a hateful fellow who cannot see past his own prejudices.
>>

I'm a dumbass that hasn't read any Superman outside of some of the old comics. So I'd appreciate if someone would explain what the hell is going on? We have SuperLex, Superman (I assume preFP, since he's married and has Jon), and Clark Kent. And then we have SuperLois and Ni Hao Kal-El. The fuck is happening?

>>83598410

SuperLex is just Lex.

Superman (Pre-Flashpoint) is here due to Convergence (read his mini and the Lois & Clark book, the main convergence book is pointless)

Super Lois is Lois who got New52's Superman's powers due to being hit by one of the energy blasts that came from him when he died. Another hit Lana, and two blasts disappeared.

Chinese Superman is a Chinese man who gains Superman's powers. It's not known yet if it's due to a Chinese government project that was mentioned in the last few issues or if he'll be inheriting Superman's powers from one of those blasts.
>>
This is the first time I gave a shit about Superman since Grant Morrison was writing Action Comics.

>>83598410
