I completely agree with you. Just wanted to point out that the pitch was before the show, as many don't seem to understand that.
I would really love a movie where Jay was The Flash beforehand and Barry is inspired by him but I know that's not going to happen. I'll even take the older origin of Barry being inspired by Jay's comic book.

Post-modernism is when a writer starts to deconstruct from a more humanist perspective what it is that's supposed to motivate the Reverse Flash to have such an animosity towards the Flash.
Johns made him kill Barry's mother when Flash is a child, thereby metaphorically representing a childhood tragedy that shapes a person's life.
The tv show took this another step, having Thawne stuck in the "past," hiding in plain sight as a mentor figure to Barry. Barry must then confront that a figure he admires is also directly responsible for shaping much of his adult life through cruel murder.
It's post-modern.
