Good evening owls of /co/,

Okay let's finally get this fucking plot moving
>>
>>83552182
We got a plot summary and name for Millar's new movie pitch today
>>
Pretty sweet first cover today. That fucking vandal that keeps shooting up the title tho
>>
>>83552182
HI OP
>>
>>83552182
Hello Storyteller.

Yes, let's hope something actually happens in this event for once.
>>
>>83552200
I'm kind of glad Millar has graduated into writing mediocre science-fantasy comics with good artists instead of all that edgy shit from years ago.
>>
>Writer Mark Millar and artist Greg Capullo have announced Reborn, the creator-owned project that the pair has been working on for several months.

>Reborn stars Bonnie Black, an 80-year-old woman who finds herself in a fantasy world after she dies. The official synopsis reads as follows:

>“It’s not Heaven. It’s not Hell. It’s as real and hard as where we live now, but filled with the most amazing fantasy landscapes, jaw-dropping creatures and a battle raging between good and evil. The people she loved in this world — her father and her childhood dog — but oddly, not her husband who had passed over 14 years before. So she sets out to find him. She realizes that she has been reborn as a 25 year-old woman with a sword in her hand and gun on her hip.”

>Reborn was created with an eye to transitioning the project to film, with Millar telling Deadline that “the idea is always to create the project and then find the right producer for it. We have an idea of who would be good for this one. It must be someone who will understand the story and is passionate about bringing our vision to the screen.”

>Millar didn't specify the producer who he and Capullo had in mind for Reborn's planned film adaptation.

>The Hollywood trade says that Reborn will be published by MillarWorld, but didn't specific if that meant on it's own or through previous publishing deals as MillarWorld has done in the past with Image Comics, Dark Horse, Avatar Press, or Marvel's Icon imprint.

>Reborn is scheduled to debut in October, and run for six issues.

HI ANON

So I just realized; is this Tec relaunch the first ever genuinely ensemble Batfam book? Like, not an antho, but almost everyone in the book proper?
>>
>>83552182
https://twitter.com/TheBigBang_/status/739917095828393985
So glad this actually happened
>>
>>83552259
>is this Tec relaunch the first ever genuinely ensemble Batfam book?
outside of minis and crossovers, I believe so?
>>
>>83552248
>>Writer Mark Millar and artist Greg Capullo have announced Reborn

Kek.
>>
>>83552259
I... Uh... Inc was a different kind of ensemble. You might be right.
>>
Speaking of Millar he also has a DC or Marvel project coming up

>>83552259
Gotham Knights is the first I'd say did that
>>
>>83552272
ahahahahaha sorry poe ahahahahahahahahha

It was very expensive. Like, $9?
>>
>>83552305
>I'll never see another Japanese Batman story with Lord Death Husbando
Wish they'd just outsource some manga right, get some kind of jump subscription shit going. Would there be a market? That boom has passed, but I'd love to see genuine mangaverse product.
>>
>>83552295
>>83552305
You know what this means: the fandom watching is going to be goddamn amazing because every single detail is going to be pored over and christened OOC/not muh Tim/Cass/Steph/whatever, because Batfanon

>>83552272
I got mighty amused at Nick Spencer trying to argue "But it would have been $16 for all four issues separately!" The store is right that making it a #13 and not an Annual/Special was mean and cynical.

>>83552333
it was $9.99 for four issues of content
>>
>>83552272
$10 bucks for one issue is fucking obscene, even if it's technically three issues

That's like the price of a 5-6 issue trade
>>
>>83552259
Late 90s - pre Hush Batbooks featured anyone and everyone they could. Not that it was official or anything.
>>
>>83552367
>You know what this means: the fandom watching is going to be goddamn amazing because every single detail is going to be pored over and christened OOC/not muh Tim/Cass/Steph/whatever, because Batfanon
I've ALREADY seen people whining over it because of this or that detail

also I bet a lot of Batfans are pissy that Jason and Damian and Dick aren't all in it too
>>
>>83552357
Mozzy's Japan stuff was sooooooooooooooooooo dated. It was embarrassing.
>>
>>83552367
wait, why did he call Eiling a Colonel, he's a General

>>83552408
>>83552327
Ah, okay. But it's been a while then, yes?

>>83552409
And there are the "My Tim Drake hasn't been seen in years" holdouts, bless their hearts. (I do know their pain, but...you know...)
>>
>>83552423
Isn't most of his stuff dated? Working with older references is typically what he does. I don't think that changes my perspective; it would be fun to see current Japanese creators do work with classic superhero characters. Look at Horikoshi - dude would kill it on X-Men.
>>
>>83552409
I already know it's going to be full of Not Muh thanks to Tynion's previous work on Eternal so I'm just going to ignore it.
>>
>>83552259
>Batman Family from the 70s
>Gotham Knights from 00s
>Batman Inc sort of?
>Rebirth 'Tec

That's all I can think of
>>
>>83552357
They kinda ruined him when they made him Batman Japan. That first arc from incorporated was brilliant.
>>
>>83552452
Eiling was a colonel at the very start of Captain Atom. Poor editorial checking?
>>
>>83552367
Spencer has gone full Marvel retard. There's no saving him.
>movie synergy is great
>Writing gimmick without any substance is necessary
>Higher prices of Comics are justified
>>
>>83552357

I picked up the Batmanga volume on a whim awhile back and fucking loved it. I'd love to see similar stuff from a more modern creator.
>>
>>83552504
Think so.
>>
>>83552452
>And there are the "My Tim Drake hasn't been seen in years" holdouts, bless their hearts. (I do know their pain, but...you know...)
I know their pain too but I feel way less sympathetic about the Batfam because they get so much attention whatever grievances will be fixed eventually

Lesser characters, there is no guarantee of such
>>
>>83552452
Well. If you're a Bat-only batfan and you're 100% mainstream, Tim and Steph's absences/changes/etc were Fan McFanface's first experience with that sort of thing. People gonna think their pain is special as often as they don't.

The Tim situation is pretty special in how bad it's been for so long, tho.
>>
>>83552519
He used to be a politician, of course he's going to toe the party line.
>>
>>83552409
Yeah I've seen some people pissy that Barbara, Jason, Damian, and Dick won't seem to be in it much or at all

Though 'Tec pretty much is the batfamily containment title right now and those people already have a book or two.
>>
>>83552538
>People gonna think their pain is special
Right, I know that pain and thus I have some sympathy to it, and yet the special pleading of the Batfam never fails to bring out my Schadenfreude side
>>
>>83552519
>marvel definitely doesn't cancel things early and uses big books to subsidize smaller books
>why does dc gotta be like that tho
>>
>>83552452
>Ah, okay. But it's been a while then, yes?
Well yes. People blame Snyder for not featuring Batfam enough in his run but the trend got popularized with Morrison.
>>
>>83552557
Some Batfam fans are not happy until each and every person has a solo, which even this Batmarket doesn't seem to support

pffft, oh Wade
>>
>>83552468
It's dated in the sense that it's never anywhere near close to Japan as it was, or is. It's just Hollywood Japan As Randos See It.

Like, I don't feel the kind of instant authenticity that I do when Yang talks about China. Or when Writer X does their research and immerses themselves. That stuff, it was hollow, late-90s memes.
>>
>>83552589
I just don't care that much about Batman desu. Same with Superman. Feels bad, but I'm more interested in other DC characters. I'm fond of some of the Bats/Supes supporting chars.
>>
>>83552627
>which even this Batmarket doesn't seem to support
and thank fuck for that, there's more than enough Bat titles as is
>>
>>83552630
Morrison treats his own country the same way.
>>
>>83552630
what?
>>
>>83552666
That's fair, but DC's Japan has very little prior lore. God, DC britland would be weird if it were pure Morrison.
>>
>>83552646
>>83552659
So the takeaway for me is, though, that this is gonna be entertaining on the "watching fandom" end.

that is one fucking dated Esther Williams joke, John
>>
>>83552659

Speaking of which, I was really fucking happy to see Green Arrow break 90k.

Fucking hell, when was the last time we saw something that had NOTHING to do with Batman sell like that?
>>
>>83552630
So like, try and get Atsushi Kaneko to do a Gotham ongoing.
>>
>>83552589
The appearance of Mr. Freeze in Animal Man #26's Comic Book Limbo never fails to make me snort from a present-day perspective.
>>
>>83552703
Same, it sounds like GA did really well

I hope the ongoing numbers can stay consistently high (obviously not around 90k but if it settled at like 40k that would be great)

>GREEN ARROW REBIRTH #1 sold out before going on the shelf. 600% more than GREEN ARROW #52.
>>
>>83552678
It's an outsider's perception of what Japan is. I think that's what he's saying.
>>
>>83552703
Beginning of the New 52, Green Lantern and Flash broke 100k.
>>
>>83552723

What depresses me is that the New 52 attempted to give the Green Team a shot to get out of Limbo and they fucking wasted it.
>>
>>83552703
I'm more interested in Bendis finally attracting some professional criticism and underperforming sales on a big event (maybe) and where that goes. I saw Kate Leth made a veiled jab at the She-Hulk death.
>>
>>83552703
For Green Arrow, would the second printing count in that too or would it ship in July and just show up there? Interested in how this shit works.

But yeah, it's been a while for those kinds of numbers. I guess early new 52.
>>
>>83552703
I hope it can stay at least 40k for the first arc or so
>>
man the sun being out so long has me keep showing up late to these
>>
>>83552755
>that month when Aquaman outsold almost everything from Marvel
>>
>>83552790
kek, these come after midnight for me
>>
>>83552751
If it could just do enough to sustain Percy and a decent art rotation for a year or two, it'd be more steady than GA's been in decades.
>>
>>83552755
GL was one of DC's highest selling books for a while

I miss those days ;_;

If Green Arrow broke 90k I'm betting GLs did similar and I assume Flash will do well too

I am curious to see how GLs' sales compare to HJGLC's
>>
>>83552804
>for the past few months Aquaman has been selling 20k

Come back Johns
>>
>>83552703
Flash is definitely going to do upward of 120k. A lot of showfags got in on Rebirth hype and Flash is more interesting and has bigger audience. Plus Flash played big part in Rebirth too.
>>
>>83552752
But, like...there's very little "Japan" in it...aside from the setting which Paquette actually did research for when he drew the issues.
>>
>>83552825
>Hairy Jesters Grab Lebanese Cocks: How Baz Lost His Virginity
>>
>>83552790
I may move to 8 for high summer

>>83552761
Yeah, I wonder if that's what that was about

>>83552758
that book was bad.
>>
>>83552761
I'm here, mostly because I think killing Marvel's eventseventsevents model would have a more salutary result than just more high sales for #1s.
>>
>>83552804
>that month
>implying only one
it was a two part episode
>>
>>83552889
I'm assuming. It's either that or what, Vampirella?
>>
>>83552790
My house has been an oven for weeks now, and it's making it difficult to keep my computer cooled.

Fuck summer.
>>
>>83552761
Yeah I'm seriously hoping CW2 underperforms. I'll feel bad for LCSes for ordering so much and people not buying it all, but events, especially ones shat out to just sell more copies, need to die

>I saw Kate Leth made a veiled jab at the She-Hulk death
link pls
Does that mean that Jen is really dead or was she jabbing at how piss poor it was written?
>>
>>83552889
They wasted that Deasthroke cameo. How do you have a plot about renting Deathstroke and botch it?
>>
>>83552703
I was surprised by how good it was. Thought it was just hyperbole around here. Also, Otto's art shocked me with how great it was. Didn't care for his past Marvel work, but he really stepped it up with GA.
>>
>>83552889
>>83552930
It must be Shulkie and CWII

https://twitter.com/kateleth/status/739974070238740480

I wonder if they made her do a tie in or if it was voluntary
>>
>>83552378
mostly just highlights how bad floppy prices have gotten. 3 floppies SHOULDN'T equal the cost of a trade and yet here we are
>>
I'm so torn on actually putting money down for Rebirth and Flash tomorrow. I just don't trust dc enough to put down cash

>>83552761

I sympathize but i was also like you're writing a c-list hero book it's not hugely shocking? I guess that also proves the point/problem in the incestuous nature of Big 2 tho, like not listening to TNC about killing Rhodey
>>
>>83552988
DC should really hire more dickgirl artists huh
>>
>>83552991
Well, it was either going to be her or Pak, and Pak has seniority. Pak's probably going to get to pretend Jen didn't die.
>>
>>83552959
>Does that mean that Jen is really dead
Are we just going to ignore the fact that while comics will be comics, in Marvel death truly holds no meaning? there were a bunch of dead characters roaming around the streets of New York out of the blue too...
>>
>>83552889
>>83552969
I don't know, but that earns you a spot in the comics all of shame

>>83552991
they had to make her do the tie-in, no way did she want to write that given the tone so far
>>
>>83553033
Pak's gonna have to write ded Bruce, maybe
>>
>>83553023
If they've got a big porn fanbase and they can stick to a schedule, why not? Benes gets work.

You just have to use your imagination.
>>
>>83553023
Nah. I wouldn't mind if they hired Incase for something though.
>>
>>83553017
Did TNC actually say not to kill Rhodey? The quote I saw was ambiguous about the actual content of his thoughts on the matter.
>>
What's gonna be really sad is when the tie in is the last issue of Hellcat.

How many books from the NOW launch have died? Angela, Weisman's, Red Wolf, ???
>>
>>83553037
It's not like Hellcat has been particularly great with any of its characters. The art last issue was fucking savage too, I would have expected so much better from the artist.
>>
>>83553099
African American Knight
>>
>>83553066
I get the feeling it'll hurt less for him, he's had his share during Planet Hulk days.
>>
>>83553099
>How many good books from the NOW launch have died
>>
>>83553099
Illuminati

>>83553083
I'm guessing he said something like "hey maybe don't kill a black character as a shocker death, especially one that shows up in movies" and Alonso/Bendis/et al were like "lol ok whatever you say buddy"
>>
>>83553099
Somebody on CBR made a list, dunno how complete it is

>All-New Hawkeye
>Angela Queen of Hel
>Black Knight
>Contest of Champions
>Guardians of Infinity
>Hercules
>Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D
>Illuminati
>Red Wolf
>Starbrand and Nightmask
>Weirdworld
>>
>>83553066
Let's see what Buy Pile Guy says, I haven't read him in a while:

>"Secret Six" #14 had some amazing moments -- a shocking turn, a fierce hand to hand conflict, shades of Paul Rudd at an airport -- but its treacly conclusion and saccharine sentiment didn't ring true.

>"Mighty Thor" #7 has the kind of artwork you'd expect to see in the sketchier parts of Artist Alley at less-than-reputable conventions. The story is a tedious digression filled with Loki aggrandizement that shows his planning but not his presence. This was rough going to get through.

>"We Are Robin" #12 covered some interesting ground as the shadow of Bruce Wayne sometimes harms the people he aims to protect. Along the way, we get a glimpse of breakout star Duke and once again see why he's the most interesting of this motley crew. Unfortunately, the plot's execution doesn't make it work, spending too long in a standoff and ending unsatisfyingly.

thoughts?

>>83553099
Hawkeye

>>83553111
A friend of mine liked it more than she'd expected because it went full slice-of-life manga instead of this kind of half-there; if you're gonna go, go all out, etc.
>>
>>83553144
what good books?
>>
>>83553164
They would have been right to ignore that, because no characters should get death immunity.
>>
>>83553111
I don't know who to blame for how static the art feels. There's so much "stand around talking" non-action that you'd really have to get JLI on it to keep critical eyes engaged.
>>
>>83553169
that's pretty brutal
>>
>>83553136
>>83553169
>>83553172

is it weird that doesn't feel like that many to me? and like none of those are getting a relaunch.
>>
>>83553172
>shades of Paul Rudd at an airport
I have no idea what this means
>>
>>83553213
It doesn't feel like that many cause they had like 70+ books to begin with and they were cancelled over the course of many months

11 books is pretty big number to cancel regardless but I get why it doesn't feel like that many
>>
>>83553211
I am warming up to this Peacemaker because he really is fucking insane

>>83553213
Hawkeye's pretty much been slated for a go at a Kate book, yawn

>>83553245
Neither do I

does anyone actually find Duke the breakout character?
>>
>>83553213
How is that not a lot? especially when you consider the fact that some ended after just 5 issues?
>>
>>83553213
well it's like a dozen out of what? 70 books or so?

they were the "scraping the bottom of the barrel" books
>>
>>83553169
Hawkeye is dead? Thank fuck.
>>
>>83553172
>>83553211
Duchess is great. The art feels very kinetic here, I think it's because it takes a slightly longer gap between panels and switches perspective quite often? Same deal here: >>83552889
>>
>>83553169
You ever think that comic publishers, the big 2 at least, ever consider just giving up?

They try something new, it doesn't sell, people bitch. They try the same stuff, it doesn't sell, people bitch. At some point, one has to get tired of this bullshit.
>>
>>83553213
Compare it to the number of DCYou books given fewer than 12 issues within the same time frame.
>>
>>83553288
They're probably going to kill Clint or write him off in CWII and then relaunch Hawkeye starring Kate, as per the rumors
>>
>>83553293
JKS3 is good stuff on layouts
>>
>>83553265
I'm fine with a Kate book, really. Give me the Songbird/Hawkeye SHIELD team-up while you're doing it and we can have Hawkeye, not Hawkguy, again.
>>
>>83553265
I think he's perfectly fine for what he is, haven't seen enough of him to form enough of an opinion. I just think the batfamily was too big before him anyway. The hate he gets on /co/ is really fucking stupid though
>>
>>83553265
I woudn't really consider Duke a breakout character but people are more indifferent to him than they are Harper lol

>>83553288
You know remember that Kate will get a solo with Marvel Nower after Bendis fucks up Clint again
>>
>>83553315
DC's "New Coke/Coke Classic" deal with New 52/Rebirth seems to be working for now

it's a temporary thing but that's about all they can ask for now

although
>>
>>83553169
>Cancepocalypse
>>
>>83553315
Brevoort is clearly a shadow of his Thunderbolts-era self

>>83553329
I am fine with anything that buries Hawkguy; it has happened, it can be done and we can move on, people can cuddle their omni, etc.
>>
>>83553282
God, they botched Herc's marketing so bad. I don't think it would have escaped 18 regardless, but if they just acknowledged they have treasure trove of bisexual bara goodness on their hands they could have captured maybe a thou or two more bodies who were already buying the Pink Aisle stuff.
>>
>>83553353
>although
whoops. although even when sales on floppies are low they're still bringing in millions of dollars plus DC in particular has a nice trade cushion going on
>>
>>83553335
Yeah I don't really care about Duke so far cause he hasn't been in much. I liked his interactions with Damian in Robin War so I at least know King can write him okay. And Duke seems to be what Tim was over a decade ago.

>>83553353
I really fucking hope that the books launched in a few months (LOSH, Shazam, etc) don't flop.
>>
>>83553265

Depends on the team for Hawkingbird book for me.

and Duke's fine.

>>83553318

dc had the 12 issue promise so i don't know if it's comparable.

>>83553269

bc marvel shotgunned books at us. percentages would be the better thing.

I didn't read any of the cancelled books so I wonder which were clearly stealth minis
>>
>>83553321
Good luck selling that. On a similar note I think Marvel is going to do a big relaunch within a year and do away most of the legacy characters if DC's meat and potatoes relaunch is a huge success. Which so far seems like it is.
>>
>>83553374
Herc/Gil definitely had mileage.
>>
>>83553353
New Coke was a advertising error, everyone preferred it in taste tests but they hated the idea of change. The formula they're using now isn't the original and no one cares because they changed it silently.
>>
>>83553172
>that panel

Someone is overcompensating~
>>
>>83553415
that shattered NOW! logo makes one wonder if it's not time to revert revert beep boop
>>
>>83553402
I get the impression Marvel's 'we'll try anything' approach to books isn't very kindly communicated at the creator end.
>>
>>83553374
No kidding, people who might have bought it on that basis totally wrote it off the second Alonso said "Herc's not bi" and didn't give it a second glance, despite the bara goodness that came from it
>>
>>83553402
>dc had the 12 issue promise so i don't know if it's comparable.
After they saw how bad everything was performing, they broke it. Online complaining saved Omega Men.
>>
>>83553415
I was just thinking that.

They're definitely going to see how Miles, Sam, and Jane stand against Peter, Steve, and Thor, and if they stop selling as well then they'll probably cancel them and let the originals go on.
Except for Miles because Bendis.
>>
>>83553420
I strongly doubt Abnett would have objected if they asked him to tack the book for shores homo, he's perfectly comfortable with the gay.
>>
I would laugh forever if they did an actual reboot, especially a year after Secret Wars
>>
>>83553442
I think Brevoort might kill himself if Dick Rider comes back.
>>
>>83553415
I've seen a few people speculating that Marvel's going to bring back the more "iconic" figures, and with Rebirth doing so well I would not be surprised at all
>>
>>83553397
>I really fucking hope that the books launched in a few months (LOSH, Shazam, etc) don't flop.
I just hope they put great creative teams on them... I suspect Reis will be on Shazam, he's not doing anything right now, is he?
>>
>>83553469

Miles is gonna be around as long as Bendis is and Thor is already jumping between Thors.
>>
>>83553477
So you're saying we need to bribe Ewing to give us Dick, ASAP.
>>
>>83553477
I don't think my sigil magic can accomplish THAT

Oh my god, he's Judge Death, sssinnersss
>>
>>83553469
Jane Thor is staying because of Aaron too.
>>
>>83553502
Reis was apparently working on Seven Seas with Johns from a tweet a while back, and he and Fabok were apparently working on something with Johns.
But now that Johns is gone, who knows what he'll do.
>>
>>83553496

So X-Men and F4?
>>
>>83553507
I just want to know if Aaron's ever going to answer the inciting question, because that's the kind of shit you have to eventually pay up on.
>>
>>83553524
He lacks the true charm of the alien superfiend IMO. That Megala deviation panel seems ripe for /d/.
>>
>>83553524
FIFTY YEARS IN THE oh hey, turned you into a snake
>>
>>83553540
They're not iconic, otherwise they'd be in movies :^)
>>
>>83553524
>SURELY NO ONE COULD'VE SURVIVED THAT

I really hope Kobra isn't stupid enough to fall for that.
>>
>>83553555
LOL
>>
>>83553353
Rebirth as a whole seems like DC saying "Yeah, can we call a mulligan on this one? Sorry.". This is most obvious with Wondy, where they just straight up gave her title to one of her most acclaimed previous writers.

>comes out this week
Please let it be good.

>I really fucking hope that the books launched in a few months (LOSH, Shazam, etc) don't flop.
There's nothing to even speculate on with those books. Is DC crazy/stupid enough to reboot the Legion yet again?
>>

Gone for good it seems. If he's not going to be on Shazam then I don't see him returning to JSA or...maybe he'll be on LoSH?

I feel he's got too but it's also so much of a plot device for this new story I dunno. Maybe he can tie it into what Thor has been up too and the various flashback issues.

The weakest part of the Thor run was the mystery anyway.
>>

>each new issue will increase in price!

>Rebirth as a whole seems like DC saying "Yeah, can we call a mulligan on this one? Sorry."

It's funny because Johns talking about how the New 52 devastated the DCU's penchant for legacy and history and relationships between superheroes (not just in the romantic sense!) is exactly what I've been complaining about since about 2012.

It's not even that the reboot erased a lot of that either, it's the fact that nothing really sprouted up in its absence to replace it. For five years we just got, well.. stagnation in terms of setting building.
>>
>>83553611
Spencer's doublethink on double-shipping was pretty amusing.
>>
>>83553611
they need some new writers pretty badly just to spread things out more; I'm a bit surprised how little of the SW minis/other minis talent has 'graduated', I admit
>>
>>83553592
>Is DC crazy/stupid enough to reboot the Legion yet again?
I don't envy whoever has to figure out what the fuck to do with the LOSH

Just roll with Retroboot? Do a hard reboot? Do a soft reboot? Make, dare I say, new characters?
>>
>>83553611
That and events.
>>
>>83553592

>Is DC crazy/stupid enough to reboot the Legion yet again?

It would be pretty Legion if they were the one team in Rebirth that got a reboot and not a return to fan favorites. (biting tongue about joke about fan favs always been cis-white dudes)
>>
>>83553658
>Make, dare I say, new characters?

There are so many characters in the Legion already I don't see much of the point of making a whole roster of OCs.
>>
>>83553611
Marvel did a 3.99 weekly. They'll do 3.99 or 4.99 double shipping without batting an eye

>>83553639
>It's not even that the reboot erased a lot of that either, it's the fact that nothing really sprouted up in its absence to replace it. For five years we just got, well.. stagnation in terms of setting building.
That was my big issue too, I am not opposed to wiping stuff out but you need something worthwhile to replace it. Too many things were lost and in 5 years there was not nearly enough to make that worth it
>>
>>83553592
>There's nothing to even speculate on with those books.

I want to speculate because I'm thirsty as fuck

I kinda want Simone to come back and write Atom for Ryan
>>

The berserker attitude on display here is inspiring. If they're weak, they're worms. If you might actually die, it just gets exciting. Best girl.
>>
>>83553592
It would be nice if we could get a mulligan on the gargaryeans, too. God, how dense do you have to be to kill all the men in the book who're the diametric opposite of everything bad about men's world?

They were a gift for how to solve the men problem, you have men who don't do war and have never done war.
>>
>>83553611
Double ship with $4 price tag won't work. It works on Spider-Man or Avengers, won't translate well throughout the line.
>>
>>83553615
It is--I read a lot of epic fantasy wherein the backstory mysteries are plot drivers, and if it's done well it's fantastic, but I think he bungled it pretty badly with the WHO IS THOR? drag out, although maybe he had to do that because it's so clear that the timing got botched on Secret Wars pausing everything and the relaunches.

That's what made Robinson jumping ship and/or getting screwed on Earth 2 so painful. It looked like we were going to get something built from scratch and then it all got ruined.
>>
>>83553747
Dredd is a comic that has been unusually loyal to its history, so it's fun to read. Not that things never get rewritten, and man there are some bad Dredd stories.
>>
>>83553738
>Building from scratch is really hard, especially in modern comics business setups.
it is extremely hard, but in the new 52's case it still had the vagueness of "is this canon or not?" to work with and even disregarding the lack of supporting cast they had a lot of opportunities to make new friendships between existing heroes but beyond Black Lightning & Blue Devil and Ollie & Buddy we didn't get anything fun or new there either
>>
>>83553773
Yes yes.
>>
>>83553755

It seems like Manabooch was trying to build up a good supporting cast at first, but they all got squandered or killed unceremoniously by the time the Reverse Flash arc rolled around.
>>
>tfw we're gonna have to deal with more Lighting Saga type bullshit with Legion in the past before getting a book again

plz Saturn Girl just be like "yeah we had a crazy fight with a blue guy but I blocked it from memory. now i gotta get back to the future"

there was a funny bit in the Hard Traveling Heroes storytime where Hal was like "I don't need to protect fucking Saturn's moons are the guardians high"

At least Abnett and DC knows that people didn't like what came after Robinson. Or at least after Taylor.
He's made the book readable imo so all he has to do for me now is get rid of all the bat and super characters.

I'm still really sad that we never got more of those two.

Let's be fair ehre, this is the fault of the creative team for the most part. Manabooch just shat the bed with everything, the lame love triangle, having Iris stuck in the Speed Force for half the run, Meta Feminist Rogues, no focus on other speedsters and trying to build a legacy...

The Gargareans were such a wasted concept, but frankly, they should've been a part of the Nu52 Amazons' society from the very beginning. You want them to be a little shady? Fine, have them treat their men as second class citizens. Do not have them raiding ships and killing people, because that makes them them the villains instead of merely a flawed society.

The annoying thing about doppelganger plots is there has to be a degree of balance, the fake can't be TOO much like the real thing or the audience won't realize it. But if they act too out of character, people start questioning why nobody that knows the person being copied is questioning their weird behavior, like the "Stupid Pills" meme that popped up during Superior Spiderman.
