Silent majority of it's viewers are children. In 5 to 10 years time it will be hailed as one of the best cartoons of the time, at least that's my opinion

The child hijinks can be boring.

I hate Clarence but Jeff and Sumo are GOAT characters, plus the kids in the show actually behave like kids which is rare in cartoons
Personally, although I know it would be good, I can't watch it without getting infuriated at myself for not acting like he did as a child, which would've made my childhood awesome. Then I just get frustrated at myself and full of regret.
But yeah, seems like a great show.

Even in that case, it's views are much lower than most of the shows airing on CN, like around the 1M mark. It's probably being overshadowed by the other shows but either way, kids aren't watching as much as they should

Sumo is awesome though; his episodes are where the show really gets it together

After the creator left so did I. It was not very good after. It changed. It reminded me alot of what I used to do as a kid. And that's what I liked about it.

This exactly, this is a show that's going to have some sort of cult following or influence. The slice-of-life and surreal elements definitely clash but the show is very unique because of it. Also the writing is often quite subversive, the characters are great, and it has a knack for tapping into primordial childhood memories like nothing else. Also all of my friends love it after I've shown it to them

The second half of the first season is definitely more off-the-wall and weird than the first half but the tone has returned to being more grounded since the second season started. I'd definitely give the newer episodes a try, "Mystery Girl" is super cute and mildly feelsy and "Company Man" is hilarious

Not quite, Clarence very occasionally dives into similar emotional territory but it's a much lighter and funnier show that gets a lot stranger. Also the kids actually talk and act like children, which is not the case for Hey Arnold. It's maybe the closest thing we've got though

The writers seem to genuinely believe they're writing a show for themselves to enjoy, Spencer Rothbell in particular has cited South Park and The Simpsons as major influences on it and he generally slips some sort of social commentary into his episodes.
Honestly I think Clarence has more to directly appeal to an adult viewer (especially comedy nerds) than pretty much any other show CN's airing at the moment.

I think Clarence has fewer outright dud episodes but when Gumball is really on top of it it's gut-busting and unbelievably original. I think I prefer/am more attached to Clarence for that reason of being relatable though, it's a great show to escape into, the characters and setting is very homey. Gumball I can only handle in small doses because the focus is almost exclusively on gags, great for a laugh but less cozy and engaging

It has insane attention to detail that make it pretty nostalgic, shit like the unpopped kernals being in the popcorn or the shitty torn up foam with zipties on the playpen they go to at Rough Riders. At the same time it does have wacky shit that makes it interesting as well.
