That's just not true. LJ is important because he fought these things before and his spirit is seeking vengeance. And that's not even taking into account that the events of Nowhere, Nothing, Never imply that this manifestation might not even be the real LJ because Johann can subconsciously manifest fake spirits.

I love the BPRD. I love that it survived Hellboy leaving, and has just continued to be amazing.
And I just love the Mignolaverse cast. It just has the best fucking characters.

LJ in this story is a Deus ex Machina.
Comes out of the blue to save the day. Multiple times.
Compare him to when he shows up in Conqueror Worm. Hellboy and Rodger (RIP) save the day. What LJ does is tertiary.
Now he's the one who saves Liz and the BPRD directly.
