What was the last time Marvel's lineup of books was THIS bad?

I'm literally only reading on book.
>>
yeah it's a mess. Old Man Steve, like... ugh. Ugh. Just seeing him makes me mad. Between that and girl!Thor we had two semi-interesting concepts taken fucking nowhere. Like... they're not even the legacy character! They don't have to stall! Can't they do something interesting, at least?!

And I've given up altogether on Iron Man, at this point we've had so many writer changeovers where I went, "well, it can't possibly get any worse" and then IT MANAGED IT that I'm not even trying anymore. And it's BMB so I'm not even vaguely conflicted.

I've heard Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther is okay but I haven't been able to get my hands on it (keeps selling out at my local shop) so IDK

Howard the Duck is ok?? and I enjoy X-Men 92 and Squirrel Girl

I literally can't think of a single flagpole character or team I look forward to seeing from marvel right now though
>>
I think I dropped everything.

I haven't even bothered to keep up with Ant-Man.
>>
>>83494755

You're trying to be le clever meme guy, but current Marvel really is garbage
>>
I've dropped everything except for Vision and Moon Knight. Feels bad senpai.
>>
>>83493348
I'm reading about six books
>>
>>83493348

Heroic age was pretty bad. Initiative and Dark Reign were so good.
>>
Wait, did that Native American guy's book ever come out? I don't remember hearing about it at all.
>>
>>83496951
Yes and it's already been cancelled :-)
>>
>>83496951
nope. same for the one about Blade's daughter
>>
>>83496637
How is Vision? He still have the weird wife and kids thing going?
>>
>>83496999
Yeah it's shit don't bother. Just stick to based DC. That's where the masterworks are.
>>
>>83496951
It's fucking canceled.
>>
>>83496999
It's the best written book Marvel has. It's essentially a mid 90s Vertigo horror comic but with Vision obviously.
>>
I think one of marvel's biggest problems is it doesn't seem like writers get to stick to characters for a while unless they a. are a writer with some form of tenure or b. its a character barely anyone cares about anyway.
>>
>>83496999
his wife is terrified he's gonna kill her. his daughter is a barely functioning mess after being trapped in a state of being perpetually dying for however long it took to repair her. his son has a growing urge to go full ultron. three people and a dog have died and the body count is just gonna keep going up
>>
>>83497077
>It's the best written book Marvel has
lol like that's saying anything.

>this turd is the freshest turd around
It's still shit either way.
>>
I'm reading Dudpeel, XMen 92, Ms Marvel, and Spider-Gwen.

I keep on trying other books and everything is eh or worse. I was hype for Howard the Duck and then it was a total slog
>>
>>83496951
Issue six came out last week, I think. And is apparently cancelled already, to no one's surprise.
>>
>>83497059
>>83497212
Hey samefag. Just want to let you know that I'm also a DCfag. There's no reason to try this hard. Vision is Marvel's only good book, just let them have that in peace.
>>

You have pretty bad taste anon :-/
>>
>>83497059
No, anon, the correct way to shitpost is to say that ONLY DCfags like Vision.
>>

after reading all the marvel comics since ANAD started (for free) I can tell you which books are bad, the worst of the worst.

>Squirrel girl
>Hellcat Patsy Walker
>Angela Queen of Hel
>Guardians of the Galaxy
>Star Lord
>Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
>Howling commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D

Awwww, I liked that book.
>>
>>83497059
Haha yes let's see my DC pull list...

oh good it's Batman punching Rorschach in the face

Honestly, I'm down to Constantine and Grayson at this point.
>>
>>83497334
no u

I'm getting kind of tired of Ms Marvel. I was having fun at first and now it's like. why does Marvel think we want Azumanga Daioh with superpowers :/

I'm mostly reading Spider-Gwen for the art. Robbi's retiring :( I miss ANGR god fucking dammit

Deadpool I'm stuck on out of habit but it feels like it's started to decompress and I'm disliking that. I'm hoping something worth caring about happens soon.

X-Men 92 is radical fite me irl

with backwards baseball caps and sunglasses on

>>83493348
2000. Everything was treading water except Avengers and Thunderbolts and even they weren't as good as they'd been a couple of years earlier.

>03/16 Red Wolf #4 - 9,932 (-18.7%)
>Red Wolf #5 - 8,445

Last issue just came out

#5 still sold more than Omega Men
>>
>>83497585

Ms. Marvel was unbearable for me from like issue 2 on. I never got the hype. I always thought it must be because it was hitting the demo of casual pre-teen girls really well, but actual comics people seem to like it? IDGI.

X-Men '92 is legitimately radicool though. It is doing a good job of filling the hole in my heart that Batman '66 left.
>>
Wait /co/ told me x-men 92 was afwul because some guy from comic alliance was writing it
>>
I'm reading four books from Marvel at the moment which is higher than usual actually. Vision is the only one of them I'd like put into the Pantheon of all-time favorites and also will be over by year's end, and Karnak only has two issues left before it's done as well, but still a goodly number at the moment for one company. The only difference from usual is that the bad stuff is so horrendously bad that if someone offered me like $50 to read it and write a quick review I would still probably pass which is not usually the case.
>>
Can we talk about how fucking bad Black Panther is? And it was my most hyped book too.
>>
>>83497895
It's just bland, same as most comics. It is definitely disappointing though, mostly because Marvel has been stuck in this rut of using its same stable of overworked and burnt out authors on everything that getting someone new - and from outside the comic industry too - was an exciting prospect.
>>
It's same as it ever was.

I'm going to check out Moon Knight and Vision though since they seem interesting.

Avengers Standoff was pretty good. The worst part was we got a check list but no reading order. Went something like 2 Standoff books, then double issue of SW:CA with Spencer's Standoff continuing in the second part. As per usual, most the tie-ins were dog's balls. Hollowing Commandos was ok and I'm interested in seeing where they go with Thunderbolts.

The main problem for Marvel is they're shoving a political narrative down our throats so hard we're gagging and coughing all over the place and become to overwhelmed to notice a thinly veiled story behind it.
>>
>>83498930
He hasn't and the new Thunderbolts is fucking horribly written so it doesn't matter if he eventually does

Ah, fair enough. Millar's Wolverine didn't happen until a few years after HoM so I guess not. For that matter, X-23 didn't get folded into the X-men comics until not too long before HoM so he might not know who she is either.

>incase the books stop sucking
I just grab them from the win-o and horde them so I can read them later if they improve.

But with both companies doing the reboot/reset/renumber mambo I might just stop bothering. I mean: I had ignored Catwoman up until Valentine's run and didn't notice any difficulty in picking things right up; and I skipped Moon Knight from the time Ellis left till the latest renumbering and likewise don't feel the need to go back and play catch-up.

I'm sure this is one of the reasons (aside from decompression) that more and more people trade-wait. That way you can just ignore all the crap and just pick out the bits people haven't shut up about for 6 months or so.

All-new Inhumans is the better of the two Inhuman books. Uncanny has its moments though.
>>
>>83500028
>didn't know until it was too late
The fact that they gave away the first 3 issues for free and are keeping it going until issue 12 despite it hitting cancellation numbers the second they stopped giving the book away for free would indicate that, no, they knew they had gold before it was even out.
>>
>>83500111

No they knew he was good when they saw the book. If they knew he was good before they would have put him on a character that sells instead of a "We need to pad the numbers" book
>>
>>83500165
Rumor is they wanted him for the Captain America: Steve Rogers book, but by the time that was gearing up, King had already signed his DC exclusivity.

Also you don't waste good writers on A-list properties. Putting King on Batman might be the single stupidest thing DC has done in years, and they've done some stupid shit over the past few years.

I'm pulling more Marvel books now than I have been in years so I dunno what you're bitching about. I get the impression a lot of the people claiming this is OMG THE WORST MARVEL LINE-UP LIKE EVER! are either people who are only just now getting into comics and suddenly having the harsh realisation that most comics are shit (which has been the case since the bronze age ended) or people who are just now leaving that honey-moon period where they thought the garbage they read was great just because it was their first exposure and now are going through their first round of "not muhs."

Certain properties are definitely shit right now (Thor and X-men being the most glaring) but the overall line-up has plenty of solid books.

Or at least it did until half of them got cancelled because your average comic fan only cares about a-listers and refuses to buy non-a-list comics no matter how good they are.

Supporting a C list Marvel books is pointless because they will just relaunch ion 12 months anyway
>>
>>83500846
I would have been perfectly happy if Hercules, Illuminati, and Starbrand/Nightmask got 12 issues.

But nooooope. At least Herc is getting that Gods of War mini, but Starbrand/Nightmask and Illuminati are shit outta luck. Hell, Contest of Champions is ending at 10 and it's one of Marvel's best books.
>>
>>83500844
I don't think it's particularly well-written, just bearably mediocre, which is good relative to the rest of Marvel's recent offerings. But whatever floats your boat.

The art is cute though.
>>
>>83500734
And yet the current Dr Fate actually makes the most sense as a diverse character but it'll always be second fiddle to brown girl waifu bait.
>>
>>83500906
Well-written by Big 2 cape comic standards.
>>
>>83500908
The current Dr. Fate is also kinda shitty though. I REALLY wanted to like it but dude, it's mediocre at best.
>>
>>83493348
I've been buying Deadpool, Vision, Carnage, Deadpool/Spider-Man, and ANAD Wolverine.
>>
>>83500894

I heard a rumor that Marvel was stopping Darth Vader before it catches up to the Empire Strikes back plot. I'm sure they will relaunch it but I'm afraid the damage will be done and it will loose half the readers it has now. You would think Star Wars books being their best sellers would teach them something
>>
>>83500969

Yeah I agree with this. I just want Kent to take back the helm already
>>
>>83499085
Dr Strange is actually pretty decent which is surprising considering how garbage tier Thor can get.

I just want Slott off ASM. Is that so much to ask?!!
>>
>>83498003
Not really no. I remember Marvel Now being much better than this for one.
>>
>>83501140

I'd take the 90's over now
>>
>>83501119
look, if you want Slott of Spider-Man you have to kill him yourself. there's no two ways about it.
>>
>>83493348
Aren't they All New, All Different? Why would they be bad? I hated comic books when I was growing up because they were constantly resetting to the "status quo" and switching between writers and artists.
>>
>>83501154
>90's marvel had Thunderbolts OG

Fuck you are right jesus christ.
>>
>>83493348
Why are there three spiderpeople?

Why is Marvel promoting racist Indian caricatures? Is he even Indian?
>>
>>83501119
Yes, actually. Slott won't leave until he's written the all-time longest Spider-man run (barring the newspaper strip obviously), and that won't happen until Bendis stops writing Spider-man since he's been doing it continuously since 2001.

Meanwhile, Bendis won't stop writing Spider-man until he has the single longest run of any property at the Big 2. Which will actually happen next year, but I don't see him finishing his Spider-man run for a few more years yet just to get a good buffer for anyone else would attempt the same thing.
>>
>>83497245
Fuck, this issue brought me to tears. I hate seeing the guy like this.
>>
>>83501140
Marvel NOW was absolute garbage. You want to go back to Bendis' X-men? That's what you want? Because the current x-line may not be good but it's not Bendis.
>>
>>83501119
I think they're quarantining him there.
>>
>Guardians of Infinity ending next month
>Gods of War is a 4-issue mini
These are the last Marvel books Dan Abnett is working on for now because he becomes DC Exclusive.
>>
>>83493348
The only stuff I enjoy right now from Marvel is Deadpool and Gwenpool.
>>
>>83501180
>Why are there three spiderpeople?
>three
Oh, you poor naive fool.

>Is he even Indian?
No, he's Native American. And irrelevant considering his book was cancelled after 5 issues. Too bad, it was pretty good.
>>
>>83501180
Brilliant, ask the OP who admits in his trolling thread that he doesn't actually read any comics, I'm sure he'll know the answer to that.
>>
>>83501226
He's also on Silver Surfer, although that's mostly just an Allred book that Slott writes dialogue for.
>>
>>83494157
Right?
I feel bad, because it's Nick Spencer, but fuck the story has just been going nowhere as of late.
At least The Fix is good.

I've only been pulling Drax and Spider-Man/Deadpool, which are both exactly what I want them to be.

Honestly way more excited about what DC and IDW are doing nowadays than Marvel, and that's kinda sad.
>>
>>83497367
>Hating on Drax
It's literally Conan the Barbarian in space with wrestling, get fucked if you don't think that's a fun time.
>>
I buy the Deadpool books and Ant-Man. Vision too but that doesn't count
>>

Yes! Yes! A thousand time, YES! You not hear? Marvel never worse than now! NEVER! We make demand for everything be better! MORE Bendis!
>>
>>83499438
Missing Drax.
It's not a "events in this series shape the rest of the Marvel universe" kinda book, but it's fun as fuck.

It's essentially if that edgy violent fighter in every DnD session got shanghaied into saving children instead of pursuing his quest for vengeance and glory.

There are hundreds of native characters that star in comics, most of them westerns.
Pow Wow Smith, Scalphunter and Super Chief being three. Seriously, DC has an insane number of japanese and native characters for whatever reason.
>>
>>83509908
You missed Ms. Marvel in what I think you would consider the "haven't read these but they seem to be liked" tier
>>
no one's mention power man & iron fist, i've only read the first issue so, seems like it's headed in a decent direction
>>
>>83493348
Heroes Reborn and Dark Reign come to my mind.
>>
>>83510196
It's a solid comic but the faces can get a bit wonky (and let's be real, /co/'s defines whether art is good or not based 100% on whether or not the faces are attractive) and I don't like how they write Iron Fist. He's basically just the comic relief/goofy sidekick which kinda demeans his role on the team.

Still, I'm enjoying it well enough, but it's definitely pretty flawed.

2099 universe, at least the first three years or so.

This, but add Contest of Champions under the exact same stipulations. Not long now, then I'm out. Blessed, blessed release.

>>83505413
Legacy and that first Ellis arc of Moon Knight are the only Marvel properties I've purchased in years. I may buy the trades of Vision/Contest as well, but I'm hardly inclined to give the company any more money than I already have.
>>
>>83511410
>>83511425
Why is House of M less enjoyable? did they kill Magneto's character
>>
>>83511445
Because it's a crossover, rather than several distinct series.
>>
>>83493348
Totally Awesome Hulk, ANGR, Ms. Marvel and Vision are all pretty solid.
>>
>>83499539
Current Marvel approach to writing a villain: take a personally reasonable viewpoint for 9/10 of his speech, tack on something insane and retarded, then target anyone who isn't the most bleeding heart liberal imaginable. Progressive!
>>
>>83511472
Apparently that crossover happened in 2005, but there is also a 5 issue Spider-man House of M series that was released in 2015. Curious
>>
>>83511534
And 2099 came out in the late 90s.

It's more like

>Villain makes important, reasonable points about the state of the world
>hero responds with "but you're a Nazi!" and punches him in the face

It's like they want to make us side with the villain. Where's Captain America systemically dismantling their belief system before fighting them?
>>
>>83501285
After Foes, all Spencer's books feel the same to me.

Is The Fix legit? I liked Foes a bit but i've just been ignoring the fix

Captain America replaced with a black guy.

Spiderman replaced with a black guy.

Thor replaced with a woman.

It's only a matter of time until we get a black Doctor Strange isn't it?
>>
>>83511534
No, there isn't? Spider-man House of M was released in 2005 with the crossover.

There was the secret wars House of M in 2015

Already happened. Or will happen depending on your perspective.
>>
>>83511554
You mean early 90's. It ended in mid/late 90's.
>>
>>83511740
>miles didnt replace Peter

Not 616 Peter but he did, kind of splitting hairs though
>>
>>83511612

It feels like Spencer spent a long summer reading a lot of Elmore Leonard novels and watching a lot of Shane Black movies, then glued them together.

It's wholly unoriginal, but if you like those writers you'll probably enjoy it as the diet version of their works. It's fine for what it is.
>>
>>83493348
Carnage
Deadpool
Moon Knight
Uncanny Avengers
Vision

everything else is kind of shit to me.

>>83501140
no. it was better just 3-4 years ago. not even that long, easily a new low.
>>
I think Spiderman is pretty good, not the best it's ever been. I enjoy Spidergwen but a lot of that is because of the art.
