If there was a Pantheon of Comic Creator Gods who would be on it?
Obviously Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison, and Jack Kirby. Love them or hate them they are too influential to not be there.
>>83489619
Will Eisner, Charles M. Schulz, Osamu Tezuka, Robert Crumb and Moebius.
Harry Donenfield, Jack Liebowitz, Malcolm Wheeler and Max Gaines
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster too
>>83489619
>Grant Morrison
Why tho?
Despite the stupid memes Stan Lee
>>83489961
>Animal Man
>Doom Patrol
>The Invisibles
>All-Star Superman
Creating a Superman story that shows that it is possible to write the character as a powerful individual on top of that still being true to what he is supposed to represent and being one of the top Superman stories. should be enough for him to be on the pantheon.
>no Will Eisner
Apply yourself anon.

All those are pretty good, but not very influential, aside from maybe Animal Man.
Milton Caniff
Alex Raymond
Lee Falk
Frank King
Joe Kubert
>>83489619
Katsushiro Otomo and Quino
>>83489619
Carl Barks, maybe Don Rosa as general god/gods of Disney Comics.
René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo for Asterix.
Lee Falk for the Phantom.
Mauricio de Souza is Brazils comic god.

Please don't make threads to talk about the "comics" medium as a whole when all you really know is Marvel and DC.
>>83490486
I just picked some creators of the top of my head anon that seemed influential.
Do you Have any recommendations on some Eisner books?
I've been thinking on reading A Contract with God.
>>83490920
>>83490940
Harvey Pekar
Dave Sim
Art Spiegelman (for RAW, not for that other thing, although that was pretty influential too)
>>83490956
>>83490753
Elitist much?
I read a lot more than just DC and Marvel if that makes you better at night.
You wanted for me to mention someone less of the of the Mainstream ok no problem how about Jodorowsky, Manara or Moebius
>>83490450
ASS is just silver age wankery. Its not what Superman is "supposed" to represent, really Grant got much closer to that in his AC run, in which Superman was more of a champion of the people fighting against the system.
Birthright and Secret Identity, hell even Astro City #1, tell better superman as a good guy stories
>>83491627
That's Golden Age Siegel you're thinking of.
Silver Age Superman was all maudlin pining for Krypton and neurosis
Steranko
>>83489619
I read that book to a kid once. I had to very carefully skip the next page to avoid the big blue naked woman.

Gaiman is overrated.
What qualifications are needed to be a Comic Creator God?
Hergé
Bill Watterson
Daniel Clowes
Tove Jansson
>>83493715
Probably influence on the medium. Like the whole Marvel group from the early 60s, even if you think Lee is the devil incarnate or not. That little studio did a sea change to cape comics.
And then the land mark indie or eurocomic figures. And wait do we include animation too? I guess this shit is complex.
>>83493715
>What qualifications are needed to be a Comic Creator God?
I would say being an influential creator.
Someone who brings something unique or new to the genre.
>>83493851
>Probably influence on the medium.
Why would OP list Morrison then? He has had pretty much zero influence on the medium outside of two publishers and one genre, and even there his favorite corporation belongs more to Johns than to him.
>>83493902
Comics are not a genre.
>>83493427
As a Gaiman fan I agree
I mean, as much as I like Sandman, it really didn't inspire much else worthwhile
It's sort of like Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell in that it was this huge work that carved out its own genre but to no real avail, the tide just settled in behind it (or a lot of forgettable Vertigo titles in the case of Sandman)
>>83493965
You are entirely right I mean comic bookt medium
>>83493965
>Why would OP list Morrison then? He has had pretty much zero influence on the medium outside of two publishers and one genre, and even there his favorite corporation belongs more to Johns than to him.
I feel like you can point to a lot of creators who were influenced by Morrison, though
And I mean the way people lost their shit for Multiversity alone, I can't really think of another creator who writes regularly who could inspire that right now
