No, it's because their shows were shit other than Tom Goes to the Mayor, and that barely earned a chuckle or two in it's entire run. They were incredibly unfunny, and 90% of their skits were just them standing there looking awkward while either some poorly done "gross out" "humor" happened, or just them spastically "dancing".
It was a tumor on all of Adult Swim and it was fucking retarded that it lasted as long as it did. It's a fucking shame AS is rerunning their shows now, because it forces me to channel surf to avoid this shit when it's late.

It also remains the best Gundam has to offer, along with its direct sequel. There's no real reason not to start there. The movies are an adequate replacement. I'm not sure about this, Urobuchi is huge on making characters as points of view or philosophies, but even then they still feel like people with strong beliefs as opposed to just inserts. This is also essential for his stories; Madoka would not work without Sayaka wanting to be a knight of justice, and while Psycho Pass still has a strong underlying world, the underlying beliefs and drives of the characters (Makishima wanting everyone to act on their will, Akane turning into Javert) make it stand stronger as a storygoddammit make a real season 2 Urobuchi the movie was good but it's a side story.

Fate/Zero was only half his story though, Kiritsugu and Kirei were already written out by Nasu in Fate/Stay Night, their plotlines already set in stone for the most part. I wasn't as impressed with Makishima as others seemed to be, mostly because he's a fairly common anime villain archetype, but he was still the most compelling they were gonna get for what Psycho Pass was angling for. To explain:
>Akane joins police force as rookie, show starts as procedural to show how the world works
>cops go after series of criminals of varying scope, illustrating the whole mental purity thing and the Sibyl System
>all those criminals turn out to lead to a mastermind of some sort, cop show now focused on busting the big case, with one going rogue because it's personal
>meanwhile the show more and more explicitly explores the Sibyl System, clearly setting it up as the *real* villain for an overarching political and moral philosophy-based conflict, but it's still a cop show so we still gotta bust the big fish
>show has to both keep chasing the big fish while making the cops start questioning Sibyl, best way to do this is to make the villain more compelling by having him be the anti-Sibyl
Basically everything about the plot was a narrative necessity, and one of the reasons season 2 sucked was because there was no real compelling structure, it never felt like it was setting up a greater conflict or resolving one, and it was just made worse by the "collective psycho pass" being utter fucking nonsense. Half the cast was also less characterized or essential that Yayoi at her worst, and the co-lead's motives were a big pile of what.

That element was done super poorly though. Instead of Akane voice overs explaining shit as we went, we got "Akane, police academy grad who doesn't know shit," which set the tone for how stupid everyone was in PsychoPass, in retrospect.

I think that's exactly what's going on, it's hinted that the rest of the world is a war-torn wasteland (the movie explicitly shows this for SE Asia), and Makishima's plot was to make Japan accept a bunch of poor immigrants who'd flock to Japan because everyone else is fucked. The show doesn't really go into detail, though I'd like to see a Psycho Pass Zero or something.
