The same thing I say every thread remotely about this:
Original is far better over all, far more visually interesting and sets the mood and tone.
Recolor is probably what Bolland would have wanted if it were feasible back then, and is pretty much the style of coloring that his contemporary work has.
It's almost apples and oranges, I don't think they're quite equivalent, but there isn't a wrong answer.
