>20th Century Fox is rebooting its 2003 historical fantasy film “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” with John Davis on board to produce through his Davis Entertainment banner.

>Jayson Rothwell has been hired to write “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.” Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly are overseeing the remake, based on Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s graphic novel of the same name, centering on Victorian-era literary characters such as Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde teaming to fight a common enemy.

>A TV series was in development in 2013 with “Green Lantern” writer Michael Green on board as showrunner and exec producer alongside Erwin Stoff. Fox made a put pilot commitment but the show was not ordered to series.

>The feature film starred Sean Connery as Allan Quatermain; it was the thesp’s final live-action movie before he retired. The studio had planned for “League” to become a franchise but the worldwide gross reached only $180 million.

>“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” comic book series launched in 1999.
>>
No idea why everyone is hating on LoEG movie. It was fun.
>>
Is this one going to be more like the comics, then?
>>
>we need another cinematic universe

Soon 90% of movies will be part of some shared universe.
>>
>>83477077
>The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

According to leaks the cast has been replaced with women.
>>
>>83477118
This. I guess, because it's divergent from the source material?
>>
>>83477118
Haven't seen it in years but i remember not being too fond of it when i saw it the first time. It was also too fucking dark, i could barely see what was going on in the Nemo fight scenes. I did like Vampire Mina though
>>
>>83477189
That would require everyone to read comic.
>>83477264
This I can get. All of action scenes are in Venice during the night and in that factory at end.
>>
>>83477189
>This. I guess, because it's divergent from the source material?

It's poorly divergent from the source material. Changes such as Vampire Mina for action's sake, or 'We need an American or Americans just won't get it!'
>>
>>83477077
Didn't some asshole rear his ugly anus and try to sue them before? Do they really want part 2 of that?
>>
>>83477469
I think that was resolved, one way or another
>>
>>83477118
It deviated seriously from the source material and sidelined one of the female character in favor of an American character that was never in the original LoeG comic book series not to mention a plot that barely resembled the one from the Moore series.
>>
>>83477189
Honestly I was fine with some of the liberties since it tried to weave things together and the middle act felt more chaotic in a good way because of that, like some big foaming conspiracy coming to a boiling point. The problem was how they concluded in such a flat fashion. It was all so rushed. Regardless of potential I just can't commend that sort of direction.

In fact I felt a similar disappointment with the first volume of LoeG. The details are fuzzy but from what I recall there's all this fuss about Martian invasion and Chinese underground criminal organization and then they're all sort of just given a bit of a spanking and that's that.
>>
A proper LoEG adaptation just plain wouldn't work.
>>
>>83477118
>It was fun.

I went to the theater expecting to be hemorrhaging blood by the time the credits rolled, given how bad the reviews were. But it was a basic, 80's type, action blockbuster. Decent practical effects, decent action, overall enjoyable if you shut your brain off.

>>83477452
>It's poorly divergent from the source material.

But standing on its own merits. Perfectly serviceable.
>>
>>83477167
it is the endgame

Hasbro has been trying to merge G.I. Joe and transformers universe in film for years,

Universal Monster Universe is also incoming and started with Dracula Untold and the Mummy with Cruise in a year or so

everyone wants those disney billions
>>
>>83477565
there is literally no comparison.

It is an entirely different movie and story then the comics. ALmost no relation, besides the names.
>>
>>83477677
Don't forget Hasbro's Battleship.
>>
Don't care, they'll still leave out the good scenes.
>>
>>83477452
I thought Action Mina was fine. I just didn't like the villain line up. too many mirror matches instead of what the villains originally planned in the comic
>>
>>83477823
what scared me was all that invisible blood becoming visible afterwards when he apparently died long afterwards. Holy shit.
>>
I don't give a fuck, I love the movie.

>"What is that?"
>"The sound of BEEETRAYAAAAL"
>>
>>83477118

cause Moorefags
>>
>>83477167
>>83477677
Just because they say they intend to make a cinematic universe, doesn't mean it's going to ever happen
>>
>>83477351
Let's not forget what Roger Ebert spent most of his review complaining about: you can't have a car chase in Venice because it has no streets.
>>
>>83477584
Actually the first volume's villain was only Moriarty, I think it was the second volume that went full on edge with all the rape and deaths.
>>
>>83477167
Anon, we're all part of a shared universe.

Not me, I've been rebooted.
>>
>>83478735
The gore, Invisible Man raping girls, Hyde killing people and Allan being a druggie was all in the first volume. The second volume just turned all the violence in towards the various members of the team when it was previously projected towards coloreds, chinamen and freemasons.
>>
>>83477452
I mean, the league recruiting Mina because she's a vampire as opposed to just getting some chick makes sense.
>>
>>83479198
Sidelining her as the MC and introducing an American character as the MC/primary POV character really didn't though.
>>
>>83477452
Tom Sawyer was a fun idea
>>
>>83477677
Are they planning on adding MLP too?
>>
>>83477987
I still don´t get how that works. I mean, the blood is no longer connected to the body. How did it became visible the moment Griffin died? Shouldn´t it have been visible the moment is separated from the body?
>>
>>83478793
My life is a solo movie.
>>
>>83479198
Well, she had dealt with the most powerful supernatural creature of the world. Dracula could curbstomp any other member of the League.
>>
>>83479254
Yeah, that wsa painful and dumb.

What made them think Tom Sawyer would grow up to be a secret agent? What made them think Tom Sawyer would be anything but a shyster?
>>
>>83479498
They made Tom Sawyer too young, anyway. If he was 10 years old before the Civil War, he'd be around 50 by the time of LoEG.
>>
Anybody got a link to dl the books?
>>
>>83479498
>What made them think Tom Sawyer would grow up to be a secret agent?

>It deviated seriously from the source material
Good, the source material was shit. James Bond a rapist working for 1984's Big Brother? Harry Potter the Antichrist? What the shit drugs are you taking Moore?
>>
>>83477823

I have conflicting feeling about this.
>>
They already have a show for this.
>>
>>83477077
I guarantee you FOX is doing this so that they can cross it over with the X-Men now that FantFlopstic set them back hundreds of millions.

I had a film course about adaptation, and we literally spent the last class disect just how badly it fucked up.

To give you an idea, look at how many times, and how long it takes, for them to explain the premise of the film!

This was my face at first when they introduced indian Jekyll but now he's pne of my favorite actors in the show.

Eva is a fucking goddess though.

I hope they bring back Harrison Ford.

Just that version of James Bond. There are a lot of them in the League universe. Every time one dies, another one becomes James.

Aw I was gonna make that joke
>>83483103
>mfw they just turned Jekyl/Hyde into an angsty tragic mulatto story

Though I wonder if they're playing the long con with the Frankenstein stories or if that shit's destined to be eternally unimportant.
>>
>>83477135
No, this one is going to be part of the DCEU.

Yes, at FOX. They're working together well on tv shows right now, why not movies? It helps unify the DC portfolio and it brings some money to an IP that was pretty much dry heaving cash the last time anybody looked, and besides, Sony and Disney are doing it too.

Imagine, a property which, to the untrained eye, is literally just crossovers. All those crossovers. They're gonna do a V movie, they're gonna do a LoEG movie, they're gonna do a Watchmen II: No, Fuck YOU movie, they're gonna do all kinds of shit.

And you're gonna watch Ben Affleck mumble "sorry" in an interview on his press tour as he tries to defend Justice League vs Watchmen: Space Vagina. You're going to see Amy Adams cry and tell the world she'd rather be doing porn because at least then you know up front you're gonna get fucked in the ass by the producer. You're going to see it all end, as General Mills rolls his bowls into a theater near you.

So long, anon.
>>
>>83477118
It was an ok movie. If it was made today in this capeshit era and with better special effects, it would get positive reviews.
>>
>>83477167
This is actually good as long as the movies are good.

Actually it should have started leagues ago. Finally I will be able to have a LOEG thread on /co/.
>>
>>83482433
WHAT is this? Seems like the kind of thing that I like.
>>
>>83477077

Incoming flop.
>>
>>83484198
