Do the turquoise slippers really work for you guys?
>>
>>83474920
I hate them so much. I am so intensely triggered by them that I have never picked up another issue after the first.

But from what I hear it's not that great anyway so good for me.
>>
>>83474920
Yeah they're cute.
>>
Yes it goes with the web design on the arms and hood
>>
>>83474920
not really
>>
>>83474920
I like it.

Parker's suit's primary colours are red and blue, so this one goes for pink and cyan, aka the feminine version of it, without making it look like pijamas.

I like that they are bright at the tip of something dark. Makes it feel more acrobatic, since you'd only see the shoes making arcs through the air on a darker environment. Much like the tip of a cheetah's tail or a the white tips of those magician's wands. It amplifies the movement and should look graceful in motion. Comics don't translate too well, but if you imagine her in motion it should look great with her flipping and jumping around and kicking.

The hood also kind of works as a replacement for long hair to establish an even more feminine silhouette. I'd go as far as to say that if Spiderman had never existed, this suit would stand a good chance of becoming as iconic as spider-man, almost. It's not as good, but it's a damn great effort.
>>
It's a little garish, but I'm not revolted.
>>
>>83474920
I like them but considering they're shoe soles and not thin fabric idk why they don't give her a hard time when she's climbing with her feet. Maybe the alteration of the flux of inter-atomic forces of whatever she touches is strong enough to go through it? Seems improbable/unnecessary

No joke, that's a GREAT costume design.

It's a bit of a shame that the writing has not lived up to the looks, but so it goes.
>>
>>83474920
I like it, I think it adds a nice but if color to the costume.

My only complaint/change is that they look like slippers. If they changed the part going over the top of her foot to black and just had a turquoise band running around the side of her foot it'd look better.
>>
>>83475813
Yeah. Just cyan soles would look better than ballet shoes.
>>
>>83475495
Very cool, didn't know that
>>
>>83475789
someone needs to sit Marvel down and tell them that decompressed storytelling does not work for fledgling heroes.

you wanna get people hooked you gotta wow them with a new, interesting villain every issue and leave the ongoing drama to the B plot.

especially in an elseworlds. you have Kingpin Matt Murdock and Harry, Goblin of SHIELD but there's nothing to get excited about because they still haven't done anything entertaining. just go balls to the wall.
>>
>>83475871
>someone needs to sit Marvel down and tell them that decompressed storytelling does not work for fledgling heroes.

THIS

If you want a fantastic example of how to write a brand-new superhuman, check out Worm.

https://parahumans.wordpress.com/

The guy who wrote that knocked it out of the flippin' park.

It's not a comic, but goddamn, it should be. I'd buy the fuck out of a good comic adaptation.

Remember: The story is the most important part. Pretty artwork is important too, but without a story, it won't last.

If the bicep area of the arms were Turquoise along with the inside of the hood and maybe eye outline than they would.
If the slippers were simply maroon like the inside of the hood and such that would also work.

Further into her costume the hood looks cool, but would limit ones field of vision all the damn time and only serve to be occasionally and literally hoodwinked.
>>
>>83476018
>Further into her costume the hood looks cool, but would limit ones field of vision all the damn time and only serve to be occasionally and literally hoodwinked.

Yeah, but this way it looks more feminine without giving her huge tits and hips, since spidey isn't too muscley either. You can just bullshit explain it away with the spidey sense.
>>
>>83476018
And that's why she usually has the hood down during fights.
>>
>>83475871

marvel wants girls and faggots, which means that the drama needs to be the A plot.

how will tweens connect with the characters if the characters don't also think that having a pimple is the literal end of the world?

Gwen's costume is great. My only gripe is that the hood makes literally no sense and is a huge liability in terms of peripheral vision, hearing, aerodynamism and potential snagging, but the resulting silhouette is cool enough that I don't care.

It's just a shame her book's so mediocre.

I'd like the shoe color to be toned down a bit, make them look less glow in the dark, I mean the color on the rest of her doesn't have that same neon look to it. I'd also rather make them look less like clogs or something that she sleeps on over the suit.

>>
>>83476960
She calls herself Spider-Woman in her own world and stories, but started using Spider-Gwen in multiversal crossover stuff.
>>
>>83476960
Only because at that moment she is teamed up with Silk and 616 Spider-Woman, who both know her real name, and she's fighting a villain that also knows her real name. All of them were calling each other by their first names throughout the book, and also it's just a nod to 90's comics so.

there is only one okay length for gloves and boots, and that is close-to-but-not-quite-touching the knee/elbow. how close is up to you, but further than halfway along the forearm/shin
girls can get away with gloves and boots that go past the knee/elbow but it leaves them looking permanently waiflike so this shouldn't be trifled with if they're the tough brawly type.

this is what separates superhero costumes from dumbshit normal clothes that i hate so goddamn much but it's all you can wear because it's all they sell in clothes stores.

Worst part of the costume.

Also bad when you have to remember that the wall clinging ability is basically like being a human magnet and Peter doesn't wear thick soles on his feet because then he wouldn't stick so seeing the blue chucks on Spider-Gwen triggers me.

Being a wall crawler she can't have big boots or anything.
Most of the time spiderman is drawn it looks like he has thin soles sewn on the bottom of his spandex tights.
Which seems super flimsy.
This seems like a good middle ground.
They are usually less blobby looking than OPs pic.
>>
>>83484271
This. Not even a fetishist, it just makes the most sense. How the fuck does Peter's boot shit work? Even the gloves are a little odd.
>>
>>83484872
>How the fuck does Peter's boot shit work?

He doesn't literally have the powers of a spider, in a sense. He has 60's "radioactive" powers: strength, can create a field of attraction with his fingers/toes and ha some enhanced reflexes/precog.

He doesn't have filaments in his fingers like the first movie showed, he has same sort of atomic magnets of sorts, that work through the glove. Same for his feet.

He just went for the spider-theme because a spider bit him and he managed to create the webs.

A similarly radioactive Ant could've bitten him and he'd get most of the same powers, and the writers would not have made him create the web shooters.

Heh, yes, it's really long, but compare that length to HOW MUCH STUFF marvel or DC has put out.

And Worm told a tale every bit as big and grand as either of those two company's.

So, yes, for this genre, Worm is a solidly compact bit of work. And admit it, it started out with Taylor as a sad, geeky, bullied high school student, and it ended up with her....

Well, no spoilers, but if you read it, you know where it ended up.

This. Spidey and other similarly powered heroes are the only melee fighter heroes who can really justify having a hood. Anyone without super senses and a danger warning superpower could be snuck up on and have the hood used against them regularly, but a Spider-Person would already have their spider sense telling them more than their peripheral vision allows them anyway.

also to stay on topic. No she looks like she's wearing a vaguely spider themed onesie with old asian lady slippers on. except the slippers are some garish shade of neon blue designed to make it easy to spot her because the black/white of her body will not stand out against night shots.

But hey we can just throw blue swooshes in to show the movement of her feet that way we can pass the job of motion off the penciller to the colourist!

I dont get why they didn't just make them white and make them flat like every other spiders shoes and instead make them look like slippers. Were they avoiding foot fetishists or something?

Flies, Anon, not spiders. In fact I think there was an interview in which Stan Lee said something to that very effect about flies but that the motif was too deterring.

Where did Spider-Gwen get her costume from? Did she make it herself or something?

I know Peter learned to sew because he's poor as shit and his aunt believes in making and mending, and in some versions he got his "full" original costume from the wrestling company he debuted with.

>Posts a pic where the blue is very muted and they dont look neon at all.

I can't remember if they've touched on that, but I would assume she made it herself.

Nice freakishly long arms.

It seems pretty elaborate for that, though.

I mean, when you get down to it Peter's original costume was a blue lycra leggings stolen from a dance class, plus a pair of red gloves and slippers and a red shirt. The lenses were handwaved as being "borrowed" from the university theatre, so silk-screening the webs must have been the hardest part. In other versions he's taking a full blue/red spandex bodysuit or whatever and making some modifications.

Hell, in most other continuities Pete doesn't even do that - he has some ramshackle blue-and-red bullshit and then gets his "full" costume made for him by the wrestling/promotional company he first signed up with.

Gwen's costume is much more elaborate, and she doesn't have any of Peter's DIY skills. In this continuity she's the spoiled musician daughter of a police chief - where the hell would she have learned to sew or silkscreen or retailor clothes?

Why did Gwen decide to become Spider-Gwen?

I mean, we know why Peter did - he's poor as shit and he saw the "wrestle 4 big dosh" sign, so he figured he could leverage his powers into marketability. Hell, his first run-in with the Fantastic Four was him trying to join up so he could get in one what he assumed was sweet brand merchandising money.

Gwen, though... she doesn't. She has no motivation to do any of the things she does - which apparently involves drumming upside down on a talk show in full costume - before her Peter goes all reptilian school shooter.

Forget how she made her costume - /why/ did she make it? What for?

It's not so much the slippers themselves as the lack of other matching parts.
If the arms and hands had the same color order as the legs and feet, possibly moving the magenta with web pattern to the midriff, it would be fine.
If there was a cyan web pattern on all the black areas instead of the magenta areas, it would be fine.
If the head was black with cyan eye outlines, it would be fine.
But I don't see any other cyan touching black on that suit, so it looks like the upper and lower halves of it weren't designed to go together.

This is the same problem I have with Wonder Woman's classic costume.
One part red+gold, one part blue+white, one part red+white. It would've looked more coherent to have only red+gold and blue+white.

People got to know she isn't white with those slanty eyes of hers.

Kind of funny how both Dikto and Romita drew Gwen as a knockout prom queen and now we have Spider-Gwen who is some sort of quirky anti-establishment chick. It's such a weird-ass character to latch onto as a social misfit with angst.

Wasn't her costume designed by Janet Van Dyne of earth 65?
>>

>Are all her villains also female versions?
no, Rhino is still a guy, Daredevil is Kingpin's attorney and de-facto Kingpin, Cap is a woman but Falcon is a shota, Lizard was Peter and Octavius is still Octopus(now with a live octopus as additional arms)

Actually, except Cap I don't remember anybody else being gender-swapped?

Black Cat is female, but a French Negress

Silk should have still been semi barefoot in her new costume
>>
>>83512522
I don't understand how she can just weave her new costume from her silk when her last costume looks like actual spider person silk.
