Has Darkseid ever shown a side that isn't unambiguously evil? What's the nicest thing he's done?
In the original Kirby comics he was fascist for idealist reasons. Basically, when all is Darkseid there shall be no conflict.

Pythia is the goddess that controls the Garden of Hope, the only place that could be dubbed beautiful on Apokolips. The garden is often visited by Darkseid himself when he is stressed out. Once Darkseid and Metron planned out a machine in the garden, and when Pythia found out about it, she was tempted to destroy it, but refrained from doing so. Not even Darkseid's own Omega Beams could affect the goddess. She is also able to see through any disguise.

Yea, just read the original creator's work before you ask stupid questions. The fact that "Go read comics" wasn't the first 10 responses in this thread is the lack of elitism that completely destroyed /tv/ and is currently destroying this board.
If you read Kirby's work you'll see that his Darkseid actually had a good amount of nuance and emotional depth. More so than any creator since brought to the character.
