I think that was sort of the idea?
The Goofy Movie (or movies; I don't much remember the second) had a big concept about an older generation trying to connect to a younger one. It's little wonder that Goofy starts things off with an older-era Disney song. It's what the older generation grew up with, what got them interested, and what attracted their attention. The first thing that Goofy is going to do, if he wants his son to enjoy himself, is to start doing the stuff that he enjoyed as a kid.
Eye to Eye is a much newer song, more influenced by pop and more familiar to a newer generation. At least, at the time the movie came out. It's more a song that Max wants to share, something that he likes and is interested in, and wants his father to enjoy it as well.

It usually has to do with your mind being more aware of it. There was probably plenty of threads of the same movie that your mind skipped over because it wasn't fresh to you. But now that it's more fresh the threads stands out a lot more.
It could also be because there was a showing of the movie on a popular channel on television, causing people to talk about it, which spreads, then someone creates a thread for it on /co/.
Although I'm sure there's at least a Goofy movie related thread at least once every two months.
