From Marvel usually, dozens of villains or are banished DIE and show up later without ANY explanation and acting OOC. Its pretty obvious for anyone that they don't care.

I don't know if it's the worst origin retcon, but all the reveals we've gotten for Wolverine since, oh I don't know, 1992 or so have chipped away at the character's appeal, with each new detail progressively making things worse.
One of the main reasons Wolverine became so popular back in the late 1970s and through the 1980s was the fact that he had the whole mysterious stranger thing going on. It's a classic literary archetype, a sort of empty vessel a reader can pour themselves into,
Doing away with his aura of mystery is the last thing you want to do with that kind of character.
But let's say Marvel just really wanted to give him an official origin, that it was inevitable. Surely we could have gotten something better than the uninspired mess that we got, right?

The scientist later was also transformed, but into a robot based on an imaginary metal.
