Personally he came to grow on me. Morrison's run played him as the cocky newcomer hero at first, but slowly he came to grow into the heroic Supes we all know and love. The Doomed storyline dragged its heels but it showed NuSupes could have his moments of being the quintessential hero.
Plus, having post-Crisis Supes come back to help his successor was a nice touch. Like a next gen Infinite Crisis kind of deal

He was a pretty 3/5 Superman, but they way they offed him was pretty well done. I still say that instead of replacing him, they should have just developed him more, into a better Superman, but honestly I'm starting to think DC doesn't know how to do that anymore, and this is the best they could do.
