Is this the most disappointing comic of all-time?

That cover is really, really bad.
>>
>expected a scifi adventure where low power heroes use their skills and brains to solve problems

instead get:
>magic
>deus ex machinas
>people coming back to life repeatedly

The Bendis vers has its issues but this is just as trash

52 weeks of shit. Everything was shit. the storylines, the tie ins, the twists. Everything

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

It's fucking boring and tells us nothing about Rorschach that we don't already know, except simplified to the point where he's a parody of himself. He's not put in a situation outside of his comfort zone, he's not learning anything new, parts of his history or personality Moore didn't fully explore are not being covered.

It's a mess of wasted potential and confusing plot decisions.

Fuck this comic and fuck me for ever being excited. I remember the first time I heard about it I came up with three theories about what it would be about.

>A) story about teen Walter's life in the orphanage and beyond that shows him learning the skills that he'll use as Rorschach and slowly beginning to develop his ethics code
>B) story about the first few days or weeks after Rorschach first starts fighting crime that involves him learning through trial and error the ins and outs
>C) story about Rorschach and Dan's early partnership and how they take down Underboss or Big Figure, and how they learn to adapt to each other's differences and personalities to become good partners and friends.
>D) story that combines all of the above somehow

But nope, none of that was even on the table. Instead, make way for pointless Taxi Driver references and the world's most generic gangbanger mob boss and his deus ex machina pet tiger, and a serial killer subplot that goes nowhere. Let's see Rorschach make rookie mistakes despite this being years into his crime fighting career just because hurrr durr fight scenes are cool, and let's have none of the repercussions of the Blair Roche case be brought up despite how this is supposed to take place after it happens.

Fuck this piece of shit. I loved the Minutemen and Silk Spectre books, so I didn't go into this expecting to hate it like other Watchfags did. I was excited, I was looking forward to a fresh perspective that would maybe shed some new light on the character. This was a fucking catastrophe.

You'd be surprised at how that happens in a lot of past comics.

The real question is, why is that theater playing Make Them Die Slowly (aka Cannibal Ferox), which wouldn't be in the US until 1983? The story takes place in 1977.

What I found funny about the entire project was that JMS did far better Rorschach dialogue than Azzarello.... but used it in the wrong time period. If you look at the Crimebusters meeting in the original Watchmen, Rorschach was still talking normally, implying he didn't start using his distinctive speech until after the Blair Roche incident.

I had little to no awareness of comics when I read Watchmen at about 16-18 years of age. I wasn't as aware in general as I am now, and in blew my mind at the time. Now I can see the limits, although I think the creators messed up by making Rorschach too likeable.

Why does Rorschach ask the waitress out and then immediately go on patrol right when he's supposed to meet her, leaving an unarmed pretty woman wandering around in the dark when there's a serial killer on the loose preying on women exactly like her, which we've established he knows full well?

Why did the mob boss start fighting crime?

Why does Rorschach spring a trap on a criminal only once in this entire comic and then never again when he's in situations where he's vastly outnumbered and thinking outside the box and improvising is necessary?

Why does he want to fight crime? What the fuck? Also what's with the dialogue? I don't even know what Azarello is going for anymore.

because this comic goes out of its way to show that this rorschach is a moron and not the same one who whittled big figure and his lackeys down one by one when he was outnumbered and cornered in jail.

as for the nigger, idk. azzman's attempt at symbolism i guess.

I think in order for it to be disappointing people would need to have thought it was ever gonna be good.

No, because everyone with half a brain knew it was gonna be a shitty cash-in to Moore and Gibbons' original masterwork.

How can Azzarello be so good sometimes and so mind-bogglingly awful most of the time?

When will the "get the villain to kill his henchman for no good reason to make him look more evil" meme die.
