What is /co/'s opinion on Space Jam?
>>83424718
It's great and if anyone disagrees they're fags
>>83424718
> just right
The second best animation/live action hybrid. Behind Roger Rabbit, of course.

OP here and I'm rewatching it for the first time since I was like 9 and holy shit. The voice acting is awful, MJ can't act to save his life, and the effects are shit even for the 90's.It's alright

First post best post.

The thing with space jam is it's not something meant to be observed and criticized. It's just meant to be undoubtedly accepted as fun for the whole family. Despite it being terrible film wise. The concept of the movie is so fucking absurd that it's pretty fun.
>>83424718
Thread just in time for the finals. I WANNA SEE CURRY GET REKT
One of the greatest achievements of human culture.

Great movie
Greater soundtrack
>>83424718
We need Space Jam Messi Edition
I think a Space Jam 2 is not wanted
it's necessary
i like barkley shut up and jam: gaiden a lot
isnt newman from seinfeld in that film?
It's utter shit. Fuck you memeing faggots, this abomination is an insult to everything the Termite Terrace ever stood for. Back In Action is a thousand times truer to the actual spirit of Looney Tunes, even though it is also complete shit, just like Space Jam.Fucking GOAT soundtrack though.
>>83426783
Whatever you say, Steve Martin
>>83424718
It's not very good, but the plot at least makes more sense than Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
These characters were never meant for anything but 6-minute shorts anyway, so trying to get them into a feature - where you need a plot, and motivations, and maybe some girl characters sometimes - is always going to be a struggle. At least it kept the characters in the public spotlight for a while longer.
Lola Bunny is terrible, though. If they had to create a girl character they should have just borrowed Babs Bunny.

That generation's answer to Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.
Jim needs to write the sequel. He knows what's up.
58:29 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r7XxkjW_EQ
Fucking Shaq as the main villain with an Infinity Gauntlet-type weapon made up of NBA championship rings, I'll be first in line for this movie if that happens!
>>83427484
These characters are almost impossible to use right. Even the original directors like Chuck Jones couldn't do much good with them when they were invited to work with them again.
Something snapped when the original studio closed down in 1963 and they've never gotten it back.
>>83427657
See also Tom & Jerry after the original MGM studio closed down. Everything else is just trying to say the same thing the original cartoons said but with cheaper animation.
>>83424718
surprisingly great. it's telling that i give zero fucks about sports or 'toony' cartoons, yet i still enjoyed the shit out of this movie. Actually I think that kind of helped, each party represented me, as i would react to the other, if they were suddenly in my world.
wayne knight was great in it, bill murray, danny devito... and all the basketballers were hilarious
just something about the whole thing was really enjoyable, and i think the scene that sums it up perfectly is when the guy misses his shot so badly it hits the popcorn guy
>>83427484
It's kinda sad, isn't it? the premise of tiny toons is that the next generation is being trained by the originals so they can be NEW cartoons
but after their show, they didnt appear anymore. just like the rest of us, they graduated, but their diploma was worthless because all the jobs are still filled by the oldtimers who cant afford to retire.. because there aren't enough kids to support them in their old age
>>83427750
And the only one who got any work after the show ended was fucking Elmyra.
>>83424718
Still has the best website on the entire internet.
>>83427928
who probably got into acme lu on the minority scholarship for being human
How to make Space Jam 2 the best movie ever made.
>Shaq is the villain who has an Infinity Gauntlet-type weapon made up of NBA championship rings, he never stops smiling, not once throughout the whole movie
>The Martian Queen teams up with Shaq to take over both the real world and the Looney Tunes world
>Have Shaq's warship be a Death Star that looks like a giant basketball
>Have cameos of The Loonatics Unleashed, The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, Freakazoid, Tiny Toons and The Dover Boys (again)
>Have a scene parodying Batman Vs Superman, preferably Lebron James asking Shaq is he bleeds
>Have Daffy turn into Green Loontern during the climax
>Have the Monstars from the first movie come back to fight on the Looney Tunes side in the climax
>Have said climax be the most over the top thing that will ever be witnessed by human eyes with so much shit going on
>Just have a shit load of references to things that kids won't get like The Big Lebowski and Jojo's Bizzare Adventure
>Lola Bunny returns but she's gained weight because she hasn't appeared in anything since Space Jam and was replaced by the Looney Tunes show version but she makes a comeback and becomes a strongfat thick girl after her work out montage
>Release a PG-13 4-hour long Director's Cut including a sexy scene with Martian Queen
Hollywood listen, just let me and Jim make this movie for you, you will earn four times the money that's used back. People will look back on the day Space Jam 2 is released and cry manly tears, people will sing songs and past down stories about this film for generations.
>>83427484
Mickey and friends dont have the same problemo, Fucking goofy got an entre movie that was GOAT.
>>83428387
The Disney characters are more suited to "real" stories. It's also part of why Disney comics are better than Looney Tunes comics.
Popeye is the same way because he comes from serialized storytelling.
Most Looney Tunes characters are suited for only one kind of story: a string of gags where anything can happen as long as it gets a laugh. There is no continuity and no consequences. It's very hard to try and shove them into a situation where we're actually supposed to care what happens to them.
>>83428532
We care about some of them.
>>83428532
But what about the new mickey shorts?
>>83428713
But if it's something like Daffy/Bugs/Elmer, Daffy is trying to get Elmer to murder Bugs and Bugs is trying to get Elmer to murder Daffy, Daffy is suddenly smart or stupid depending on what the gag requires.
It only works because we know none of it matters. If they actually had to play by the rules of motivation and character consistency of a feature, they would just be obnoxious murderous assholes. Which is why they always seem toned down.
>>83428484
>Makes the dunk
>>83428532
basically looney tunes are the 3 stooges, disney toons are the judy garlands
>>83429605
Or Looney Tunes are early Marx Brothers, Disney is MGM Marx Brothers.
>crickets<
> No more obscure Hollywood references for me
>>83428532
You kind of have a point here. Hell, that's one of the reasons why I didn't like TLTS that much; they were too grounded to even be considered Looney Tunes and everything fell flat because of it. However, I don't think it's impossible to make a good movie out of them. They just need a writer that is aware of their shortcomings and is clever enough to work around it.

The remixes are great.

It kicks majors ass like Roger Rabbit and Back in Action.
>>83428484
Still the best thing to ever come out of Korra.
>>83426267
Basically this, if you even try to criticize you seem like a pompous dick. It's there to laugh and enjoy
Fantastic soundtrack holy shit
>>83424718
I beilve it's the cooliest movie ever.
Lola Bunny is very sassy in this space jam movie.
It's not Fridey yet.
I accept this movie as a true account of Michael Jordan's return to the NBA.
Some may say it was because of the MLB strike, but I know it was the Tune Squad vs Monstars game.
>>83434725
Well I guess that's better than David Stern catching him in the act of gambling on his own games and him "retiring" as he served out a two-year suspension.
>>83424718
It was ahead of it's time.
Plot goes with basketball just because and Michael Jordan is a worse actor than Shaquille O'Neal. Haven't watched in full lately so I'm not sure if nostalgia holds up.
