>writing process consists of developing gags first, linking a coherent story between them later
>uniquely-styled score recorded every episode, paced with in-episode events (with unique sounds for gags)
>sound effects carefully picked out and re-used with specific kinds of jokes (along with voiced lines for background reasons)
>each kid has an immediately recognizable face value personality with additional underlying features (that are retained between episodes)
>all of it is hand-drawn, including environments, and moves authentically (i.e.: something hanging will bounce with movements)
>balances verbal humor with cartoony slapstick, every voice actor does their lines 10 times each to get it perfect
>pacing is ideal; nothing is too fast or too slow
>made on a very cheap budget for the era which is why it was picked up to begin with
This honestly might be one of the best animated series ever made yet it always takes backseat to Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, etc.
>it always takes backseat to Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab
no, both of those cartoons lose their appeal without nostalgia goggles
Honestly? Because it looks gross. Dexters lab and PPG have a more palatable style.

Less people are wearing Nostalgia Goggles for EE&E

>it looks gross
even when they were kids people were normalfags, amazing
>everything he says initially sounds like gibberish
>listening to it again as an adult and it all makes sense in context

Because the art style is fugly. Yeah kick, scream and cry all you want but you know I'm objectively right.
At least mc cracken's bubble heads no-fingers abominations were cute in a minimalistic kind of way.
I don't know why people think it looks gross or ugly. Looks fine to me, just cartoonish.

There was appeal to their designs
Unlike Steven Universe which seems to have just made their characters ugly for ugly sake

>Unless your pomegranates shrivel in the cold of the Dark Sea!
That flew over my head that Rolf made a dick joke.

>every voice actor does their lines 10 times each to get it perfect
I watch a mini-documentary on the show a while back, and I remember Ed's VA saying he once recorded the same laugh 200+ times until he got it right.

Why bring up steven universe?
There's been a ton of talk about EE&E on /co/ the past few weeks.
Not complaining, just seems kind of strange how there are now almost daily threads talking about how great it was.

Ed, Edd, n Eddy is leagues better than Dexter, but PPG is fucking PPG man. It's like the second best show CN ever produced.
