Hey guys, sorry I have not been update posting this week, honestly I've just been mulling about arranging art assests to send off to the publisher.

I've also been sketching out remaking he skill system to be 1d100+stat+skill level. Each skill will correspond for a stat, each skill level will have a number threshold that you must roll over. In this sense, combat and skills will work in the same roll.

But yeah, things are getting to a critical juncture in the development. If there was ever a time for stupid ideas to be proposed and thrown in the game it would probably be now.

I suppose the only recommendation I'd have is a proper character sheet. Like with the list of skills and their levels, character name, age, race, size, etc.

That sounds nice, Doc is character that easily could lead his own arc, to move a bit the thread: What other characters would you like to see to have their own arc? Mallard can be a obvious one, maybe Petey too or maybe the guy who owns the Endtown's bar listening to the histories that the people has to share him.

Not even a week after becoming one, Sarah goes from "Promise me you will never leave me, Jim" to this.

Looking at her and Kirbee, it seems like it comes with being a lizard.

Aaron flat out stated that mutants suffer from cartoon animal tropes, Holly and her cheese addiction, Jim gathering trash and so on.

He has also gone on to say that lizards are considered "cold-blooded" and mentions the reptile brain. Kirbee could be dumb because lizards are so simple-minded. The cannibalism comes from lizard habits as well. Kirbee may not be an apparent sociopath cannibal, but perhaps she could instinctively eat Chick/Holly/Irving out of nowhere and get over it in an hour.

Isn't the reptile brain is the seat of lust, though? It sounded like the lizards were pretty into "free love", at least. Feels like Kirbee may not have hangups about promiscuity or polygamy, which is perhaps why she instigates this stuff.

I wonder if the love triangle will eventually turn into a three-way relationship, if Holly and Wally can accept that? Another mixed-up novelty in a new world...

Or, perhaps, Wally will eventually see her doing the same thing for someone else she feels sorry for and then realise Kirbee's love is a bit more impersonal than he thought, even if there is a kind intent behind it.
>>
>>83419458

>which is perhaps why she instigates this stuff.

does she?

>I wonder if the love triangle will eventually turn into a three-way relationship

that's highly unlikely, i don't think it will go beyond those kisses to be honest, which is a bummer for me, not because i do ship Kirbee and Wally, but because the whole thing would feel completely unnecessary at the end, like some kind of filler drama.

>Wally will eventually see her doing the same thing for someone else she feels sorry for.

only that she doesn't love him out of pity, but because he saved her life from unity, which is probably a lot fucking more than anyone has ever done for her since she became a lizard.

Well, the first time, even though she knew he was in a relationship. The second time Wally was an equal participant as far as we can tell - there's a long shot, and then in the next they were kissing again, if memory serves. That's what I'm saying, though, I think the free love thing let her initiate the relationship and while she does care for Wally, there's a chance he might be in for a bit of a surprise when it comes to how she views their relationship, or even romance in general.

I agree with the first time, i guess she couldn't help herself to thank him for saving him, but the second time in which she prevented him from jumping into the portal was obviously an move out of fear, she didn't want him to die, and the third, well... i guess they just let their feeling loose for a little while.

>>
>>83420165
Well yeah. She has clearly seen that Wally loves Holly, yet she courts him all the same. What kind of "exceptionally nice person" would even harbor the thought of doing something like that to anybody? Unless she is being vindictive towards Holly for yelling at her, in which case she is most certainly not all sunshine and rainbows as some would like to think.
>>
>>83420714
Ah, I forgot about the portal-jumping instance, my bad.

I didn't address the sympathy vs hero-worship bit either: I think it started with hero-worship with a side order of "Cheer up, little dude" (>>83420165), but deepened on the sympathetic side of things when she saw more of how his relationship with Holly was going. I recall feeling that there was just something in that look she gave him when they were flying...

For the record, I hope he can help Holly and patch things up with her (though I don't think the Holly that emerges from this will be the one he fell in love with, either...), but I don't think Kirbee is bad or disingenuous in any way.

If she didn't really love him and it was all some fucked-up maternal-instinct-mistaken-for-romance issue (is there a word for that?), then yes, I would expect their relationship to fail, at least in terms of romance. Any remaining friendship would probably be harmed by the fact that Wally would likely still love her romantically on some level, too.

On the other hand, if there is real love there then the removal of any baby-substituting behaviours might allow their relationship to deepen.

I wonder if Holly would take Wally's surname if they decided to get hitched, or would she feel like that was a betrayal of Lyn?

>>83421580
Reminds me that there's a parallel between her and Kirbee's "spark" for him in that he acted the hero both times.

Taking Wally's surname would be a good way to finally detach from the pain of the past. Then again, she might not want to forget about Lyn because he did genuinely care about her. I dunno, that's just my own opinion.

It's difficult to tell whether Neitherland has some odd naming practices going on that lead to frequent alliterative names (and therefore Holly being Holly Hollister even after marriage might be significant), or if that's 100% Aaron's love of such naming schemes and will never be remarked upon in-story.

>>
>>83426796
>Is he saying that the rats are related to the water supply in Endtown or is he talking in a meta point of view?

i think he means hints in the story...
>>
>>83426342
Sounds like he's saying you turn into the creature which most matches your personality, as filtered through the stereotypes of the people around you rather than your own?

So a noble and brave person who came from a culture where creature A is noble and brave and creature B is cowardly and sly would become creature A. If, however, they came from a culture where creature A is vicious and predatory and creature B is noble and brave, then they'd become creature B instead.

There's also the way that anthro mutations influence their victims, though. Jim may have developed a looting habit and Holly definitely got addicted to cheese, for instance. So the more important take away, perhaps, is that if Holly had come from a country where the Mice Love Cheese stereotype was not in effect but where the people were largely aware that you can catch mice with peanut butter, she might have had a craving for that, instead.

This also puts paid to my own private line of speculation that ordinary animals in the Endtown world were actually cartoon stereotypes themselves and the "Cartoon Logic" thing had nothing to do with the minds of the victims.
>>
>>83426342
>red pills into the narrative water supply

Something that the story has so far lead us to believe, isn't actually true. He's said "most rats are not proper mutants", I believe, which to me suggests that there's a couple of humans who became some manner of rat, but the security rats are something else.

Random ideas, new and old:

>The rats have always been like this in the Endtown universe, it's just gone unremarked until now because everyone found it normal.
>The rats were created by someone as the original caretakers of Endtown, and had already been there for years when the anthros and Typhoid Maries showed up.
>The rats are what nonhuman primates turn into when exposed to the virus.
>The rats are the result of experiments on lab rats to find a cure for the virus (Mallard?).

Now I am picturing Holly in Endtown, eating all the cheese that she can find cover with melted cheese while saying: "This is life"
>>
>>83429201

not exactly the same but...
>>
>>83429201
A piece of cheese kindly left for her at the top of the stairs in the clocktower will be the first step on the road to recovery once she reaches Endtown.

literally impossible to not try to peek under her skirt.

Well, the comic takes place in a retro-futuristic 50's so maybe some characters show the opinions and attitudes of that time.

>>The rats are the result of experiments on lab rats to find a cure for the virus (Mallard?).

Mallard used to run Endtown before the council was instituted, right? I'm not misremembering that? Then perhaps another "narrative red pill" will be the revelation that Mallard has somehow rigged Endtown's security team to always be ultimately loyal to him so that Endtown is never entirely out of his control. I mean, would a genius like him (mentally agile, strong-willed, crafty and canny, not your stereotypical absent-minded professor) really cede control in a way that allowed people to potentially fuck up everything he had built or was working on? He just hasn't played that card yet because once he does it'll change everything...

that would have been a very dick move if you keep in mind what holy, maude and linda went though

Which did resolve itself in the end, albeit somewhat unpleasantly and with a promise of a political upheaval. Not necessarily something to reveal your "secret once-off emergency tyrant powers" over; I'm imagining that would be more a matter of immediate life or death for the whole colony.

Shit, was working on posting a note with that comic before I decided to reply to (>>83430835
), sorry folks.

Anyway, I noticed that that much older comic has the start of the mutagenic plague being a year before the bombs fell. Retconned, or was it a really slow burn while the "virus" built up strength/infectiousness/mana/whatever?
>>
>>83430835
If Mallard really has the total control of the rats, he would take action in a way that he looks like "the saviour of Endtown" than the dictator that takes the control againts everyone's will.

IIRC, WWIII began because the Neitherlands couldn't content the infection, so I suppose that the virus spread for almost a year before reach a global scale.

Jeez DK, can you make anything non-cute immensely dawwable and cuddly?

Seriously, you did dinosaurs, monster-mutants, fucking Skaven twice, made them look cute. Is there any ugly animal or thing you can't make adorable?

you
but yeah, DK is top-tier cute maker

Huh, guess I missed that. So everyone was living as looney tunes and fighting Cthulhu monsters for a year before everything got obliterated?

>So everyone was living as looney tunes and fighting Cthulhu monsters for a year before everything got obliterated?

Everyone was living out their daily lives, listening to horrible stories about monsters appearing in cities and towns.

Those who turned into anthros were most likely kidnapped and sent straight to APEX labs.

Exactly, it was not until the problem couldn't be hiden anymore (like we see now with Holly) that things went down

>"secret once-off emergency tyrant powers"

I for one would like to see Mallard's final form.

Although really if he wanted control of the rats then he'd just have to pen a line about him having authority in their rule book. Remember, these guys had Wally and Holly attacked for being terrorists when it was their idea to make them act like terrorists.
>>
>>83432760

Also helped that the best selling gizmo at the time, the buddibomb, would immediately attack any nearby mutants.

So there was a good chance that any high profile mutation would be a smoking crater within minutes. At the very least it would cut down on witnesses. Look at>>83397537 that was for just one mutant.

The rats are dumb, no question, but if I was a genius I'd go with something that couldn't be countered with a bottle of Tippex. Like... zombie-soldier brain chips... or something parasciencey. I dunno, *I'm* not a genius.

>Remember, these guys had Wally and Holly attacked for being terrorists when it was their idea to make them act like terrorists.
All the rats except for his sergeant seems to be really dumb so yeah it woudn't be so hard for Mallard to gain control on them.
Now that you mention the fact that the rats attacked Wally and Holly by believing that they were terrorists, could that affect their comeback to Endtown? if the rats still consider them terrorists I doubt that they can put a foot back since the rats shoot everything in sight.
>>
>>83433494

Considering how Holly never wants to come back, I'd say that's a moot point luckily. She'll probably mess endtown up if she had to come back.
