Upon witnessing that the fiend Kerberos has resurfaced in the slavishly ass-kissing comments section of a silly webcomic, I resolved to capture him and drag him before Eurystheus. The king of this worthless domain, however, refused to allow me to collar the hell-hound. Now all the creature does is gloat about how great Carla is.
Bear in mind: I am not interested in Carla. I don't care what tackle it's packing. Every storyline which may have been considered at all intriguing has been put on hold so that we can variously bemoan the fate of Becky or watch how damn cool Carla is supposed to be. Bullshit! The onomatopoeia is the same size as the stomps which are clearly loud as fuck. And once again, when Carla gets her skates fucked up, Mary doesn't even have a moment where you see her enjoying having "taken [a transperson] down a peg" she literally goes back to reading her fucking book.
Willis has failed to actually convey what he intended, and now people are using stuff like that "no, it was skates on carpet, idiot" comment to downplay the actual contents of the strip.
If he wanted it to be this way, here's a list of things he could've done.
1) Show Mary finding out about Carla's status. He doesn't even need to show her reaction, cause we would link the comment in the hall to that more readily.
2) Have Mary treat Carla like she treats everyone else in the lead up to the "big insult" have her insult her, swear at her, call her godless and all that jazz. There's no reason she should've been so much more polite than usual.
3) Have her go out of her way to gloat when Carla eats shit after the glue prank. Having her say "serves you right, you were breaking the rules" doesn't count, because it fucking does serve her right, and that was a comment made after Carla searched her out.
4) If the skates were supposed to be fucking quiet Use small text for them above Mary's head, and then use larger text when she goes out in the hall. Then use even larger text for the stomping. This is an extremely simple concept.
