They can't just retcon a character later to remove those rights, no court would side with Marvel there. Yeah, Marvel would have the rights to Squirrel Girl, not Fox. Fox doesn't have all mutants, they have the X-men and anything related to X-men stories, with a few exceptions like Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch, and perhaps some other exceptions we've yet to become aware of because they've yet to be used. I would be terrified of Squirrel Girl being in the Fox universe. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they get a lot of the characterization wrong in those movies. I like the writing, it's witty and clever and isn't afraid to poke fun at itself and the company as a whole, and Ryan seems to have a pretty good grasp of Marvel's history, or at the very least he looks stuff up on the wiki a lot. Even the stupid blurbs at the bottom of each page, while often pointless, produce the odd gem. The crossover with Howard the Duck had it's writer add blurbs at the bottom of the page too, it was stupid harmless fun.
It's a weird book for sure, and like I said not for everyone, but I think its a interesting book, and frankly I'll read anything with SQ in it because I think she's a fun character.
