I mean you’ve got Fixer suddenly out of the timeloop, Sin back to looking normal, Bullseye back and able-bodied, Ringmaster not blind, Montana and Ox living again.. Is there an explanation, is it lazy writing or is Secret Wars the Marvel version of the Speed Force. Ain’t gotta explain shit.
>>
>>83322256

It's almost as if Marvel doesn't care about continuity anymore.
>>
Thunderbolts writer said Fixer was going to be explained

Bendis brought back Doc Samson without any explanation, even though he was still dead after Secret Wars was over.

Probably.

Rhino is supposed to be dead, but oh hey. There he is in a bar in Europe. Yup.

There's also Jester popping up from the dead just to get whacked in Civil War II
>>
>>83322382
Not even, it didn't change shit except for the last hour or so of the final incursion and adding Miles's friends and family to 616 along with the Maker and do 8 month timeskip afterwards.
If anything it's Infinite Crisis and One Year Later.

That was a different Jester, not the one that died in the original Civil War.

But what the hell happened to their 616 counterparts? And how do they remember their lives being shaped without the whole Peter Parker death thing. DESU instead of bringing Miles to 616, they should have brought Sam and Kamala to the Ultimate Universe. So the SJW oriented characters can be together and not infect 616.
>>
>>83322256
Secret Wars, anon. They all came back during the 8 month timeskip after Secret Wars. Think of it like this, at a 4:1 scale, that timeskip was about 3 years worth of comic runs. How many supervillains get revived via story arcs in 3 years worth of comics? It's just that this time, all those arcs happened off-panel.

Yeah, Van Lente explicitly brought them back to life but Brevoort immediately shat on that and undid it via editorial fiat AFTER it was already published. Take this bit from Swordsman's Comicvine page:

>Despite both Swordsman and Yellowjacket being left alive following the event, much like Alpha Flight were who went on to appear in their own ongoing, neither of the two Avengers have been seen since. Editor Tom Brevoort insists they both returned to their death because they "serve no purpose alive" and that readers are "being stupid and misreading into things" by claiming they by rights are still alive.

The "serve no purpose alive" thing is especially funny because Yellowjacket's entire character in that mini was that she was horribly depressed when she learned that nobody even realized she had been murdered because that showed how little she actually mattered. And I mean it's not like there's a great follow up you can do with her making the most of her second chance to try and make an impact so she won't be forgotten again or anything.

Brevoort pulled the same shit with Namorita after DnA brought her back in Nova. Managed to find a copy/quote of the Formspring post regarding it and Brevoort again comes off as dickishly dismissive of what his writers did. When Yost's New Warriors series was announced, someone asked him about Namorita being alive again (DnA brought the pre-Kymaera/blue version back through a time rift or something). Brevoort responded as such:

>I honestly kind of hope not, I thought that bringing back an alternate-whatever Namorita in that manner was a contrivance, especially given that there wasn’t any real plan for her, and did nothing but devalue her death. So I’m content to think that she went back to her alternate-whatchamacallit or faded away or got hit by a bus or whatever. Or she never got back to Earth in the first place.
>>
>>83325353
Gonna samefag but as a follow up, him deriding bringing Namorita back as "cheapening her death" is pretty funny considering what Whedon did in bringing back Colossus and couldn't even think of a competent reason beyond "he was only dead by your standards" which completely shits all over Colossus' death and the subsequent issue where Kitty goes back to spread his ashes which were really fucking good stories. This was also right in the middle of Quesada's "dead is dead" policy too.

Of course it's Marvel so if you're a name writer you can do whatever the fuck you want with no pesky editors to stop you. If Bendis decided he wanted to bring Namorita back and claim that she never actually died in Stamford he'd do it and he wouldn't be told "no".

Cant see the pic becsuse I am in a bus with a shitty cell phone but iirc Harry Leland of the Hellfire Club is in that picture and he has been dead since the 80s, except for when he was resurrected by Selene in the Necrosha event.
I thought the canon explanation for this was that Reed and his family make mistakes when recreating the world.

I like how he only complains after it's already been in the comics.
You'd think he would sort of stick with preventing things from getting into them. Instead he secretly forces his head canon on writers without readers actually knowing and then pretends like it should be common knowledge.
And then there's the fact that none of these characters meant anything to more than 5 people and those 5 people usually would like their character to be alive.

Autism is what this is.
>>

Emma should rejoin the club. She's much better as a villain anyway. Sabretooth should be a villain again too. Making him a good guy and blonde Wolverine is just messed up.
>>
>>83333840
Sabretooth gets cloned a lot iirc, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody pulled a clone out of storage to deal with Creed

But it's more than likely just laziness
>>
>>83338885
Did nobody read that Cyclops-school Uncanny X-Men run?
Emma broke up with Scott in the last issues and when he asked she said she was going to go back to the Hellfire Club.

And I agree: Sabretooth was epic more fun to read as a sociopath. But let his one try at redemption storyarc play out. You know they'll want to write him as fun again someday.

They sometimes go through the explaination, sometimes it's ignored and overlooked, sometimes they figure nobody will care why or how, and sometimes the mechanics of a villian's resurrection is a storyline all on it's own.

But there can't ONLY be "superhero deaths", for God's sake, even Bucky came back!
If villians aren't given the same opportunity then there's going to be a real lack in epic superhero conflicts.
They aren't making compelling villians like they used to. Literally.
>>
I think what I hate more than anything is when dead character is brought back and it's completely forgotten.
>>
>>83339371
Do you mean when they're brought back to life and then nothing is done storywise with that or them ever, as though there's no point in bringing them back at all?
Or do you mean when they're alive again and nobody raises an eyebrow despite having seen the guy explode infront of them or something?
Because your post can be read either way and I find both of those things annoying myself.
>>
>>83339477
I mean when they're specifically brought back and the next writer forgets or ignores it and they're dead again. Sort of like the opposite of Bendis with Samson.
>>
>>83322256
>implying marvel has villains in the first place

>>
>>83322256
>is Secret Wars the Marvel version of the Speed Force. Ain’t gotta explain shit.
This.
The whole timeskip was just a smoke screen to retcon whatever they wanted without having to put any effort in it.
Pretty blatant.
>>
>>83339536
Oh, that's just writer-specific character favoritism, it's really bad when they just bring a character back to bring them back: they know the next writer isn't going to run with it and come up with a story to make that worthwhile, but they do it anyway because they figure they don't have anything to lose when they're leaving the book.
All writers have their own agendas, nobody is going to tank the story ideas they had worked out already to deal with some last minute curveball, so those new writers almost always drop these into the void.
To make it work a writer needs to give the readers a story that validates that resurrection, and to do that properly the whole run needs to be built around that arc.
Not laying the groundwork and doing the followthrough is just lazy hack writing by someone who has shown that they don't care about the book.
>>
>>83339536
>>83339725
I think I hate it more when they bring a character back just to kill them again. In single instances like with Remender and in large instances like Chaos War, Necrosha, and Blackest Night. I fear Dead No More is the same way. It feels like some of these writer have god complexes where they want to feel powerful, so they prove it by killing off a beloved character that's older than them. Or bring one back only to kill them again.
>>
>>83339725
I guess Magik just got lucky that they gave her a mini and then New Mutants got a new book.

During Standoff, both Blood Brothers were suddenly alive with no explanation.
It's especially weird since in Black Vortex, the surviving brother was enhanced by the BV with cosmic powers and became Brother Blood.
What was the point of doing that if the next writer ignores it, have him lose the powers with no explanation and bring back the other brother with no explanation?
