if you look in the opening you can CLEARLY see that they are holding hands.

That's a good, wishful theory you have there. And they do indeed usually grab each other by the wrist (there have been exceptions, though. I'm glad you like the poses: it's true, despite how easy it would be to just pick the specific colors they use on the show, I go for more vivid shades.
I do so just in general, as a personal taste, but in this case its OK, I think, because if I remember correctly, in Ren'py there's a way to tinker on the saturation, contrast, and other values of the images as needed; so, like it often happens in the show, RH can quickly switch down the saturation of one of my drawings as to better adapt to a not-well-lit scene, or similar — and I guess that's kinda what happens in the show too, such as the weird tint of characters and scenarios in "Interdimensional Field Trip".

Also looking at this reminds me that drawing crossed arms is my ultimate weakness, which made the pic related animation for another thread a pain in the butt to make some time ago!
Underrated moment: exhausted Star walking to her seat at the karate tournament and saying "sorry" to everyone she bumps into in this sort of creepy tired voice.
The combination of the art/voice acting is just fucking hilarious to me.

I really can't get rid of my own style, so might as well embrace it! Though to be honest, maybe the show's style is a little too extreme for a VN, so it's not too bad of a trade-off.

Monster Arm is one of my favorite episodes, from little things like MARCO'S NEMESIS being a bratty rich 8 year old to the lenghts Star goes to help Marco even if she is not technically the one to blame for the Arm thing since she did say it was not her confort zone. Not only that but the episode has really hilarious moments, I love sleep deprived Star a lot.
That episode even inspired one of my fanfics. what a gem of an episode.

I guess my drawings are a middle ground between the style of the show and the few WIP images of CA's visual novel. I do my best to channel my perception of Star, but if I tried to copy her extreme expressions from the show, I would have to deform her a lot more, and couldn't recycle details as much as I do.

You are breaking ground already by multiple poses, most VNs only change the faces while the bodies are stuck in the exact same pose forever, which is jarring, so I am glad you are not taking the lazy way of just do 1 pose even if you feel you are avoiding doing Star's more extreme expressions.
So about how many expressions/poses are you planning per character? I guess the big 3 (Star, Jackie, Janna) would require an extra amount compared to other characters or will you go full FF3 and have the same amount of poses for everyone to the point some go unused?

I'm kinda sloppy, and not exactly planning much: I'm not even sure I'll draw all the characters myself!
For now, was just coming up with Star's expressions as I go: I plan on making a whole different pose, more "in your face", to use for her more wild poses. I think the two sets then created would be sufficient to give her a lot of variety.
Recycling details is a necessity, and you'll soon start seeing more poses with the configuration of the arms from the default pose, or the crossed arms from the smug one, etc. It's just a shortcut to get faster results.
To be completely honest, I would love to have more input from RedHoodie: I'd have no problem drawing more expressions than necessary, but if he's coming up with a story that requires specific poses, I'd love to know it in advance, to better accommodate the needs of the VN.

The easiest way to do it without spoilers or needing too close communication with volunteer artists is RH makng a lists of expressions he feels he will need for his planned storyline.
