So do they do anything worthwhile with Scott in this movie? Any moments that make him recognizably the good character he is actually is?

How's Tye Sheridan? I really, really like him in Mud.
>>
>>83291041
He was trying to lead mutantkind into the next stage of evolution, and Phoenix revealing herself showed that they were already there.
>>
>>83291041
Apocalypse, as in the word, means "uncovering".

He wanted the strong to survive and was willing to give his life to see that. When he saw the Phoenix the final act of "uncovering" had been complete.
>>
>>83291078
He's one of the subplots, coming to accept being a mutant.

I actually liked him quite a lot in the film, and he's part of taking Apocalypse down more so than some other characters.
>>
>>83291078
>How's Tye Sheridan? I really, really like him in Mud.

you have good taste, Mud is an excellent film

Unfortunately in Apocalypse, Cyke is the rebellious younger brother of Havok. Take from that what you will.
>>
>>83290779
>they're both immune to each other's powers.

How does that work?

Also, isn't Scott's power just concussive force, not actually heat vision? It seemed like it was the former when he first shot it, but the latter for the rest of the movie
>>
>>83291213

Seemed like his eye beams were heating up the metal Magneto impaled Apocalypse with
>>
>>83291286
Concussive beams cause masses of friction and heat shit up.
>>
>>83291286
>>83291213
The friction was heating the metal I would think.

As for why they're immune, it's the given plot reason for why Scott doesn't blow his own eyelids off or is able to cover the beams with his hands. So they decided that to mean something about his genetic make-up makes him immune (like when an animal is immune to its own poison) and as such his brother is immune too.

>>
>>83292413
>>>/tv/
>>
>>83291910
>This. They had enough ideas in this to make 3 movies
Indeed. Personally I wish they had focused on one person coming into the school (e.g. Scott) and built up the school as a place and the new team. While conversely having Apocalypse do the same.

There are some cut scenes (e.g. a mall scene when the kids skip out) which would have been fun and fit the 80's theme.

They should have followed Scott entering the school and Apocalypse growing power and building his forces. If you had more time with the burgeoning X-Men you would have been more invested in their fight and things like the Phoenix revelation.

We really didn't need Mystique out there and this and that. It was too much. Too many subplots.
>>
>>83290779
I liked Alex in these movies.

Good actor
>>
>>83291201

At the least his one real rebellious thing, flaking off to go to the mall, was lame, dorky, and after he had seen Jean. He's trying to impress the girl, in a horrifically cliched way, and that kind of works.
>>
>>83291563

That second thing is a fucking god damn add and it was some of the most fun X-men cast action I've seen in six god damn films.

Okay, so, next film is going to have an active team of young X-Men in proper costumes, going to a fully formed school with tons of other students. Will the team be the cool kids? Will the other students know? Will some think they're dorks? How will Quicksilver abuse this?
>>
>>83291078
Tye does a good job. He is actually given more scenes as a leader than I expected.

There's a bit where Mystique, Beast, and other mutants get captured by Stryker. Cyclops basically leads the remaining mutants (Jean and Nightcrawler) on a rescue mission.
>>
Storm gave me such a huge boner.

I loved how silly this movie was.

The part when Magneto forms the big X with the steel beams to block Apoc was great.

Maybe its sped up for us but he hears it slowed down

You ever hear songs slowed down to super slow speeds?
>>
>>83293426
God that was so fucking cheesy.

I loved it.
>>
This movie would've been better received if it settled for either uncompromising action romp like "First Class" or self-serious down-to-earth thematic exploration like "Days of Future Past". It tried to have it both ways and felt disjointed.
>>
>>83293677
The weird jokes breaking a tense scene seemed to want to pull the sort of the the main Marvel movies do, but it always felt off. Like the delivery was wrong, or breaking the tension for the audience was wrong itself.

I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't love it either. I didn't believe ten years had passed for any of the main characters, because they looked exactly the same. Despite being the 80s, it's really only referenced a handfull of times, and it being the 80s doesn't seem to have any importance to the film, whereas the prior films felt centered in their time periods. All the referencing to Last Stand was bizarre, too. You'd figure they'd want to stay as far away from that as possible.

No I agree with the other guy it's not that she shouldn't it's just weird to see Storm cowering when she's not in a small confined room

But she's still a teenager and in the X-men she'll be stronger and braver.

Unless she gets put into a small room.

they'll save onslaught for when Disney gets all the rights to all of marvels properties and then do heroes reborn to create a new MCU
>>
Can we have just one movie where no version of Magneto does something bad?
>>
>>83297992
Like I said, I was totally fine with the deception because she wasn't "Storm" from the comics who was literally a goddess. This was Storm who is not a powerful mutant who is still a pickpocket and who despite just getting a massive power boost is still fighting someone for the first time ever. It makes sense she is afraid of Hank and Scott kicking her ass because she has never really fought anyone above a baseline human before and if Apoc didn't show up it looked like she might have gotten her ass kicked by the knife dudes.

I know people prefer the X2 theme (Singer included) and I like that it's a recurring theme for the Xmen intros and endings but when there comes a time where we get to see the new xmen doing their thing can we please get this back?

>Kinberg confirms the next X-Men movie will be set in the 90s

>You might have noticed a trend in the X-Men movies. 2011’s X-Men: First Class was set in the 1960s and its follow-up, X-Men: Days of Future Past, took place in the 1970s, with the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse set to demolish the 1980s. One might be able to guess where the next X-Men film will be logically headed, and one would be right. ComingSoon.net caught up with Simon Kinberg at the film’s junket where he confirmed what you might already be thinking.

>“The next one is set in the ’90s,” the franchise producer told us.

But the first film was in the late 90's and Magneto and Xavier were old as fuck...

I'm saying this is Xavier and Magneto in 1999 so what the fuck sense does it make to have a movie starring the new actors 5 or 6 years before this?
>>
>>83300184
The first film came out in 2000 and it was set in the "not too distant future".

Besides, who cares, the point of DoFP was to wipe basically everything.

Remember how in X-men 1, Storm, Cyclops & Jean were supposed to be the original X-men? Or how Mystique and Charles never interacted without so much as a hint that they knew each other till First Class? Or how it was strongly implied Wolverine's claws were entirely from Weapon X?

The point is you can ignore all this shit, it doesn't matter from DoFP onward.

They wiped that continuity so hard they actively made fun of it with that mall scene

I actually liked Toad in the original movie

the fight scenes are bloody, the camera angle shows actual gore and you actually see wolverine gib mooks. There is a whole lot of swearing, but it's used realistically on not for the sake of humor like in deadpool. The sex scene(s?) are incredibly lewd, and there is a few minutes of added footage.

I think some of the dialogue changes like in the DoFP rogue cut too, but I might be mistaken.

In what way was Strker necessary to the plot aside from "Hey, I know that guy!"

If they did critics would hate it because there's no themes or emotional arcs to jack off over and they would simply call it a GoTG ripoff

And to get Moira, Mystique, Beast and Quicksilver from the ruined school to the base to Cairo. And since the X-Jet is blown to bits and the mansion/underground was in ruins they needed a place that could provide gear and transportation that wasnt the xmansion. Which only leaves Stryker's Base at Alkali Lake.

Plus give Jean, Cyclops and Nightcrawler the chance to step up and launch a rescue mission.

The only reason Jubilee wasn't there was she was probably caught in the crowd that got knocked out and Stryker never picked her.

Same thing with BvS. I don't get why people are overreacting to these things

This was a solid 7.5/10 a little below DOFP but I think that's because of JLaw. She felt weaker in this film than the last one. Story wise it's a lot simpler and juggles the new characters fairly well.
